- It is a comparatively safe university to get in - especially if you have previous professional experience. I had 3 years of work experience as a Software Engineer back in India and hence, I like the idea of a professional masters rather than a Thesis Based one. As mentioned before, the CS program here is specifically designed for people who come from non-CS backgrounds and hence, I found it to be best suited to my needs.,
- University of Chicago is one of the oldest and most popular universities in the United States. It is well known for its physical sciences, computer science, management (Booth School) and public-policy programs.,
- It is known for a lot of inter-disciplinary programs and research - and especially for computer science - it is a well-known university and one of the rare few, which gives non-CS students an opportunity to pursue Masters in Computer Science.,
- On the fun end, the University campus has the closest resemblance to Hogwarts (Harry Potter School) amongst all the universities in the United States.
- Dislikes:
- The professional masters programs can be quite heavy on the pocket since it is a private school. Teaching assistant roles are offered to students but these roles are very few and they provide a stipend but do not waive off part of your tuition fees (which many other universities in US do).
University of Chicago has been a dream come true for me since I always wanted to do a masters in computer science after working as a software engineer. It is one of the few universities that allowed people like me who come from a totally different background (mechanical engineering) to pursue masters in CS. The entire masters program - though rushed due to quarter pattern instead of semesters - has been quite challenging and very relevant to developing practical skills that would be easily transferrable to the real world. It has been a wholesome experience for me.

- The teaching process is very interactive and professors are very friendly.,
- The university provides lot of study resources to the students.,
- It also provides a lot of commuting facilities to the students.,
- The university has a very good brand value as it stands in Top 10 universities in the world.
- Dislikes:
- The quarter system makes the curriculum a bit hectic.,
- Three courses are to be completed within a span of 10 weeks which make it difficult for professors to cover all the topics and students to learn them.,
- But professors make great effort to complete all the topics. There are quite less career fairs to support students in their job hunt process.,
- The course fees is on the higher side. No scholarship is provided.
Its an overall good experience to study at University of Chicago but one should consider the university fees before taking a call to join the university. Because of the university ranking and teaching curriculum which has good reviews from previous students.
Ranking and culture both appealed to me when i was choosing. it was the top school in economics and the people i spoke to seemed very intelligent and interesting.
It's a top-ranked school and I wanted to take advantage of the best opportunities presented to me! I think my school will be able to catapult me to the highest levels of success. Also, I love the Chicago area and knew I wanted to live here.
