  • Graduate students come from many fields including the visual arts, sciences, and engineering. Each student works toward an individual thesis project that incorporates research and theoretical exploration of a topic of their choice.

  • The 2nd year is devoted to thesis definition, exploration, and production, through a series of studio and seminar courses.
  • Students have the opportunity to work as teaching assistants and to collaborate with faculty members on research projects.
  • Students have to complete a minimum of 80 quarter units of upper-division and graduate Design-Media Arts courses is required. 66 of the 80 units require letter grades and 14 units require S/U grades.
  • 16 units of electives are required and students are encouraged to select elective courses from outside the department. 
  • The comprehensive MFA examination consists of an oral examination and a concentrated body of work that will be presented in a master of fine arts exhibition. 
  • The department provides world-class faculty that gave a depth of expertise and achievement to the students.
  • It also provides different lab facilities to the students such as DMA Lab, Video Lab, Fabrication and Electronics Lab, print Lab, Game Lab, Arts Library, etc.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must complete a bachelor's degree or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • The minimum grade point average (GPA) requirement is an average of B grade (3.0 on a 4.0 scale), or it's equivalent.
  • Applicants are expected to have a working knowledge of a variety of software.
  • Students also have experience with video, interactive media, or 3D modeling and animation.
  • The submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Students must complete a 4-year undergraduate degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution
  • Or, students completed a master's degree with first-class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
