What students say about University of Michigan

Likes

  • Courses are really good for my department, one of the best masters programs in the university and the largest department here.
  • They do offer intern/research experience for undergraduates through a program called UROP, but I preferred to apply and interview for a real job in research on campus rather than using their program.
  • The placements are really good, with good packages, and many renowned companies come for placement drives to take students, so there are lots of opportunities.
  • There was a special application for the scholarship where, along with 2 LoRs and an SoP, I had to write an essay on a topic that was given that year.
  • Wifi is available throughout the entire campus and the Library is open 24x7.
  • I like the freedom and space of my own apartment, but the dorms are well-structured, and the food and RAs were all top-notch.
  • I am not sure about the fee structure, but I do know that there is an in-state and out-of-state tuition, which is a HUGE difference.
  • The faculty themselves are great; they encourage students to meet them during office hours, and the ratio is about 1 faculty to 20 students.
  • Good university for my program, and one of the best ECE departments in the USA, UMICH is also highly rated among all others for masters and graduate programs with some of the best engineering courses.

  • Just the winters here sometimes get very long, so the first year can be an adjustment, specially for people from our countries, since we are usually not used to long winters.

"Yes, I submitted SoP, 3 LoRs, CV. Interview for the PhD program was technical - questions about my field, and past projects. No implementation questions were asked, only conceptual. " My advisor is my most preferred advisor in my field, university also ranks well in terms of rankings and reputation. Overall experience has been really good. It is filled with diverse learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. The vibrant campus life, and supportive faculty, fostered an environment of growth and discovery. We can also engage in various clubs and organizations which helps develop leadership skills. Research collaboration opportunities are immense, this helps me as a PhD student to understand various perspectives of a problem I am trying to work on.

I have really enjoyed my time at the University of Michigan. Not only have I enjoyed the degree program that I am currently doing, but I have had the pleasure of meeting some great faculty and students who I’m sure will help me in my future as a potential medical student.

  • Considering it is a public university, the tuition fee is very high for all the programs that you take although there are many funding opportunities. It is a small college town therefore sometimes one might get bored of exploring the same places. A car is beneficial if you are not within walking distance of campus. The bus feasibility is good but it can take up a lot of your time traveling if you do not look up the bus timings before hand and leave accordingly.

I would say it is an amazing university. Your choice to come here should depend on how good the program is and not how good the university is. I like the university, the town, and the people so far. I would recommend this university and program to everyone.

The program I was looking for is one of the top programs in this University. I received a good scholarship. This paid me stipend every month and covered my tution fees for all 5 years of the program.

The program was the most important factor. I also really liked the community and the opportunities for research since it's the 1st public research institute in the country. I wanted to do CS through an arts college and get a breadth of interdisciplinary knowledge. I wanted to challenge myself with a bunch of competitive people but I also didn't want that to be a driving force. The people at UMich are extremely helpful and kind too and will help anyone struggling as compared to places where I come to the first mentality.

Their kinesiology college allowed me to pursue a bachelors in movement science while completing pre-med requirements. The college accepts freshman so I wouldn't have to waste a year doing basic studies in the main LS&A college, and could sooner focus on interests.

It was the best college I got into, and the best for the money. The University of Michigan is the best public school in the state and offers one of the best mechanical engineering programs in the country as a public school.

It was the best college that accepted me. Their medical school is very famous and well known which made me interested in this university since I want to become a doctor. At first, I didn't really know much about this university but now that I'm here, it's a great university.
