Founded in 1955, the Department of Statistics and Probability is part of the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University and is dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, education, and innovation. A statistics major prepares students for careers in the modern, data-driven world. These programs provide a solid background in mathematics and programming and build upon this background with coursework in probability, statistics, computational methods for data science, and application of statistics and probability. Faculty are engaged in statistics education research and practice, and the department has a vibrant community of teaching faculty
