IIT Roorkee is inviting applications for admission to its PhD Programs and the deadline to apply is April 10, 2024. IIT Roorkee PhD Admission is based on the GATE/GPAT/JRF/NET scoreIIT Roorkee PhD is categorized under 2 divisions. The institute offers - Full-time Research Scholar (FTRS) and Part-time Research Scholar (PTRS). Candidates with at least 2 years of work experience in a Government / Semi-Government organization / Public Sector Undertaking, AICTE / UGC recognized educational institute are eligible to apply. Candidates are then shortlisted on the basis of their academic records and work experience. The entire selection process is held online and is based on merit.

IIT Roorkee PhD Eligibility

Here are the common minimum Eligibility Criteria that candidates need to fullfill in order to apply for IIT Roorkee PhD Admission 2024:

  • Candidates should be recipient of any one fellowship e.g. UGC/CSIR/DBT/DST/Inspire/ ICMR etc.
  • Candidates need to apply within six months (i.e. 180 days) from the declaration of the fellowship result. If the date of fellowship result declaration exceeds more than six months (i.e. 180 days) on the date of submission of Ph.D. application, then such candidates are not eligible under Rolling Advertisement

Apart from these, an applicant should possess the following minimum qualifications in appropriate areas to be eligible to apply for admission for the Ph.D. programme of the Institute.

1. Applicants with Master’s degree should satisfy the following:

  • General, GEN-EWS and OBC category: Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.0 on a 10-point scale, or 60% marks.
  • SC / ST / PWD category: Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.50 on a 10-point scale or 55% marks.

2. Applicants of all categories (GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PWD) with 4-Year Bachelor’s degree should satisfy the following:

  • Candidates from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs): a minimum CGPA of 7.0 on a 10-point scale or 70% marks.
  • Candidates from institutions other than CFTIs: a minimum CGPA of 7.50 on a 10- point scale or 75% marks

3. Applicants of all categories (GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PWD) with Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from IITs with a CGPA of 8.0 and above on a 10-point scale.

4. Applicants of all categories (GEN/GEN-EWS/OBC/SC/ST/PWD) with MBBS / BAMS / BHMS / BDS degree from Indian Universities / Institution shall have minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale, or 60% in the qualifying degree.

5. Applicants with Master of Surgery (MS) / Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Indian Universities / Institutions are exempted from the minimum CGPA.

6. Candidates pursuing master’s programs in Engineering / Architecture / Planning / M.Sc. / M. Des. in IIT Roorkee shall have a choice of lateral entry / switch-over to the Ph.D. program after completing the following:

(i) First three semesters of the Master’s program with CGPA 8.0 or above for the candidates of M.Sc. program.

(ii) First two semesters of the master’s program with CGPA 8.0 or above for candidates of other master programs.
