• Location: NIT Hamirpur is situated 3000 ft above sea level in the lush green state of Himachal Pradesh. The campus is extremely serene and beautiful, unlike any other college. 
• Tourist locations : Another unique factor owing to its location is the number of tourist locations near the campus. Major tourist locations like Dharamshala, Shimla, Mandi, Manali, etc. are just 3-4 hours away. Students also make day trips to places like Sujanpur, Kangra Fort, Baba Balak Nath, Naina Devi, Jwala Devi, and Palampur. You can also plan a Trek to KheerGanga, Triund, Prashar Lake, etc. Even in your 4 years, you will not be able to explore all the places.
• Gender Ratio: Unlike most colleges, NIT Hamirpur has a very good ratio of girls to boys.

Every college has some or other unique factors that help it set itself apart from other colleges. In the case of NIT Hamirpur, its unique location and a number of tourist places around it make it stand out among other colleges. 

The CSE department at NIT Hamirpur has its own pros and cons. I have listed a few to answer your question 

Pros

• The CSE department of NIT Hamirpur has some exceptionally good faculty members. Their teaching styles are unique. 
• The curriculum of this department is one of the best. A few courses are so profound that CS students of this college have an upper hand when talking to other CS grads. 
• Students are taught diverse courses like AI, Data Mining, Agent-Based Systems, OS, Networks, Advanced Architecture, etc 

Cons

• The number of faculty members is low and the majority of them are not interested in teaching.
• Not many CS companies visit the campus for placements and most companies from the IT sector visit.
• Students aren’t offered any kind of industrial exposure.
• There aren’t any student projects, and only bookish knowledge is given preference.

However, being a CSE student at NIT Hamirpur is certainly a privilege given the fact that they have the maximum free time and also the best placement record. 

So weigh the pros and cons against your own preferences and make a wise decision.

Hostel life at NIT Hamirpur is similar to that of any other college. Since my brother recently passed out from NIT Hamirpur, I have a better idea of this. 

• The students change their hostel rooms after every year so your roommates also change 4 times. 
• The serene surrounding areas make the campus a peaceful place to stay. You will always be in awe of the beauty of the campus. 
• The hostel has rigid restrictions on in-timing. During the initial semester girls and boys are expected to reach the hostel quite early. From the second semester, there are a few relaxations, especially for the boys.
• There are indoor game facilities like table tennis and badminton courts. There is also a pool table in the Neelkanth Boys Hostel for third-year boys. Also, there is a Common TV room where students gather to watch matches together. 
• Students can be seen walking around at night or enjoying the sunrise at OAT.
• Many talented students portray their skills at night performing for everyone. Celebrations like birthdays, festivals, and the World Cup become much better with friends.
• There are enough eateries for both girls and boys. Girls have canteens in their hostels while boys have Nescafe which runs till 2 am. There are many eating spots in and around the campus like Juice bar, Nescafe, Amul, HPMC shop, Ekta, Junction, etc
• Students occasionally plan trips to nearby areas like Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Dharamshala, Treks, and many more.
• The best part of hostel life is indeed the last-minute group studies a day before your exams.

The facilities and rooms do not define the quality of your hostel life but the friends you make there do! 

There are three modes of transport to reach NIT Hamirpur, the road link, rail link, and air link. However, one needs to reach Delhi first. 

Road Link:

• Reach the ISBT KASHMIRI Gate Bus stand and get on a bus to Hamirpur. In case no direct buses are available, get on any bus going to UNA or CHANDIGARH.
• Go for bus services like HRTC, Punjab Bus Road Corporation, and Haryana Bus instead of private ones that are expensive. 
• You can also book your tickets in advance through a bus ticket booking app.

Railway Link:

• Sadly, Hamirpur has no railway connectivity and the nearest broad gauge train head is at Una, at a distance of 72 Km from Hamirpur. 
• You can reach Una from Delhi via two trains (Himachal Express (14553)& Jan Shatabdi (12057)). It takes around 10 hours. These run between UNA HIMACHAL (UHL) and DELHI(DLI) throughout the week.
• One can go to and from Hamirpur and Una via Bus or Taxi. 

Air Link

• The nearest airport is at Dharamshala which is about 75 Kms from Hamirpur. 
• Air India and Spicejet fly between Delhi and Gaggal daily. Additionally, there are regular flights up to Chandigarh, which is about 200 KM from Hamirpur.
