- Research facilities (Highly sophisticated synthesis and instrumentation labs for air-sensitive chemistry, NMR, XRD, LCMS, Fluorescence, and Radiolabeling)
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
- Work-life balance
Dislikes
- To be honest, I am very happy in St Andrews, but a couple of things I did not fancy are: 1. Student accommodations are costly (But this is not a concern for funded students as the funding is sufficient to cover this but is a concern for self-funded students)
- It has an open campus, so you miss campus life.
Campus Life
- We have an open campus; most universities in the UK have an open campus concept. So the departments are spread across the entire town of St Andrews.
- We have most facilities like student advice and services, library, sports facilities, and medical services, student union cafe, art theatre.
- There a lot events which keep on going, here there are events for Indian festivals as well, for example diwali.
- Here we have clubs for most sports where you can get trained and form groups. The cultural events are conducted by the student union and are held on tuesdays and fridays but most events are based on western music and pub culture.
Fees
- When offered a position in the UK, you will always receive the expected expenses in your offer letter.
- For example, here is how it is in St Andrews: the international fee for PhD is £26,270 per year, and the living cost, including food, is £1000-1200 per month.
- Fees can be paid in instalments (in my case, my funding covers it).
- My monthly expenses is as rent is £500, food £300 for food, £100 for transport and £200 for other)

Likes
- Teaching is really good - great support systems if someone is struggling.
- The societies and traditions of St Andrews are great and everyone can find something for themselves.
- St Andrews is extremely safe - never have to worry at any point of time.
Dislikes
- It's a very small town so student life can be monotonous at times as there's limited places to go to.
- Proximity to a train station and airport.
- Rental prices and accommodation crisis.
Campus Life
- The university is based in a small town with different buildings scattered around. There's a community hospital about a 15-minute walk from Main Street, but it does not have emergency services, ambulances are available and quick and will take you to a nearby town for emergency care.
- There are multiple libraries in St Andrews. The main one is pretty big and makes a good place for studying, but there are also smaller ones that are beautiful.
- The sports centre is great and offers all major sports facilities and also provides different classes such as judo, boxing or dancing, the gym is a bit small and it, being the only one, can get crowded at times.
- Popular events include May dip when on 1st May, all students go for a dip in the North Sea when the sun rises in the morning. There are Scottish ceilidh, multiple fashion show events and a lot of formal balls, too. sports societies also extensively host events. Freshers week at the beginning of the year is also great.
Likes
- Great location of the university in a small beachside town.
- The size of the class is small so the sessions feel personal.
- Very helpful staff and faculty who respond fast to your every need.
Dislikes
- Difficulty in finding student accommodation in the town.
- Will need to travel to the nearest city which is Dundee if you need to visit malls etc.
- Climate is generally cold all year round, high levels of wind.
Campus Life
- The University of St Andrews does not have multiple campuses but is integrated throughout the town of St Andrews.
North Haugh: Science and medical buildings.
The Scores: Arts and Divinity faculties.
St Salvator’s Quadrangle: Divinity faculty and St Salvator’s Chapel.
St Mary’s Quadrangle: Divinity and Church History.
Purdie Building: Chemistry department.
The Gateway: Management school.
- Campus Facilities
Main Library: Comprehensive resources for all subjects, with study spaces, and an IT help desk.
Martyrs Kirk Research Library: A space for PG students and researchers.
University Sports Centre: Includes a gym, indoor courts, a swimming pool, and fitness classes.
Outdoor playing fields for rugby, football, hockey, and tennis courts.
Sailing facilities at the nearby harbor.
University Health Centre: Provides medical advice and GP services.
Counseling and Wellbeing services for mental health support.
Music Centre: Offers practice rooms, instrument loans, and musical tuition.
Student Union: Equipped with bars, event spaces, and support services.
Fees
- My tuition fees for one year of study was ?27250, and I had to pay an additional ?6000 for accommodation in Dundee
- You can pay all-together or split up your payments into a maximum of 12 installments. I did 3 installments. Rent was to be paid either monthly or all at once.
- I was cooking by myself so I easily had around ?400 as monthly expenses.
- As I was under 22 traveling in Scotland is free on buses so I did not have to incur traveling costs. All expenses was for eating out, cooking and other living and shopping purposes. Laundry had to be paid for too.

Likes
- Amazing student satisfaction scores, great school of CS (especially for HCI), beautiful place.
- St Andrews not just as a university but also as a place has a lot to offer. People did say its small but within its small area it encompasses the first time meridian, 7 golf courses, the place of the discovery of calculus, beautiful walks, a 600 year old castle. The university itself offers immense facilities such as a prompt student helpline, supportive and motivating professors, cozy library and study areas etc.
Dislikes
- Lack of halal food options in catered halls, more copies of updated editions of some books in the library, more scholarship opportunities and the fact that The university has not taken credit for the work it has produced.
Overview
My time at the University of St Andrews was truly remarkable. The School of Computer Science boasted an outstanding faculty who not only excelled in their fields but also ignited our passion for learning. The diverse array of learning opportunities extended far beyond classrooms, with research projects and tech-focused clubs enriching our academic journey. Beyond academics, the town's rich history and stunning landscapes provided a captivating backdrop to our studies. St Andrews is more than a university; it's an inspiring blend of history, learning, and natural beauty that makes for an unforgettable educational experience.
Campus Life
Everything is well maintained and easily accessible. Number of libraries across town. a special postgrad library in a beautiful 1920s church, events happened literally every week. there are a number of societies from an Indian society to a actual hole digging society.
Overview
I got accepted for my dream course, St. Andrews offers a campus life, instead of city life, it is a stunning town with travel places around, very diverse, closer to home, a lot of extra curricular opportunities
