- Dislikes:
- A few things that might have been better included - better guidance on career opportunities, in-house hiring, maybe more time on the research project, and more time dedicated to the course materials and corresponding exams. But overall, it was a great experience.
Overview:
I got admits from around 6 top Universities across the UK, and it was a bit difficult for me to choose. I considered the following factors to compare and decide on the choice of university, these included - the course suitability and structure, the fee structure and scholarships, the location of the University, the Cost of living, the student facilities, reviews from the seniors, and many more. I chose the University of Liverpool (A Russell Group Uni), as Liverpool is considered a very student-friendly city, it has good transportation facilities, amazing beaches, a very affordable living structure (cheap cost of living compared to other big cities while having all the essentials to be called a big city), International football club, and of course since the course structure was very much as I wanted, and I had also received a scholarship of 4500 pounds (making it my first choice).
Fees:
24,500 Pounds (one can get around 4500 scholarships as an International student if they meet certain criteria), Some students were also awarded fully funded scholarships.
- Likes:
- Diversity- We had a huge range of Indians, Chinese, and in fact, a lot of other students from various countries.,
- Premium Institute- It's a myth if people say 'studying in a Russel Group doesn't help anybody in any way' because the reputation of UOL significantly helped me land a good and satisfying job and a lot of other interview opportunities.,
- The city & uni location- Liverpool is THE MOST vibrant city in the UK and is significantly affordable, especially when I was a student when compared to all the other cities. The uni is situated at the heart of the city, not so far from the city center, when compared to other unis in the UK,
- Campus facilities- Uni had 2 big library spaces and honestly, it's my favorite place in the whole world. It shot up my productivity (and still does) from 0 to 100.,
- And the best thing is, as an alumnus, I still have the permission to use the place.
- Dislikes:
- Accommodation- It's super hard to find an affordable place to live and the living expenses are as expensive as tuition fees.,
- Job Market- Although it's heard everywhere right now to land a good job, having spent so many lakhs on education, it really took a toll on me when it took me almost 5 months to find a full-time, permanent job, for the field I really want to work in and build a career.
Overview:
I chose this university due to following factors: 1. Scholarship: I was selected for 4 scholarships- a) Vice Chancellor's International Attainment Scholarship- Rewarded b) Commonwealth Postgraduate Bursary- Rewarded c) Finalist - ULMS Indian Subcontinent Scholarship (Full-Fee Waiver) d) Finalist - ULMS Indian Subcontinent Scholarship (50% Fee Waiver) Although I was not rewarded with the last two, I feel grateful to have been considered. I really appreciate the fact that talents and efforts are considered. It gave me a boost to my confidence not just to achieve in my education, but in life! 2. Management school and faculties: a) Alumnus always mentioned the management school has a remarkable infrastructure and the faculties are awesome. Proof- I have a background in Engineering and tech. Although I have a knack on the tech side, I always saw myself in the management field and my career was going towards that. I struggled in finance and my professor spent extra hours to help me crack the subject. For a fact, I always got prompt responses from ALL of my professors. I was able to secure a distinction not by myself, I owe it all to the faculties. b) My dean is the most down-to-earth person I ever known. I lost all my uni access once I graduated and I needed a reference from my dean to join my new job. I had only 24 hours left. I texted my dean in linkedin thinking it was a long shot and I needed to try and give it all. My dean, that dear man remembered who I am and gave me a prompt letter in the matter of an hour. He is truly an inspiration and an amazing teacher who I will always look up to. 3. Part-time & Mental health: a) It is very hard to land a part-time job anywhere here. But Liverpool is renowned for the football club and I got a gig in the very first month which helped me manage my finances. Whilst that being said, the Uni goes above and beyond to help expat students land a part-time job and always have ears to hear any sort of financial or mental concern. b) The uni has a separate in-house mental health clinic with advanced practitioners which is really appreciable.
Fees:
Changes every year.
Overview:
Liverpool is not only a fun and busy city but also totally beautiful and has a rich history. The university had a lovely friendly vibe when I visited and did not strike me as obnoxiously prestigious which is easily done by many Russel group universities.
Fees:
The fees are 9000 each year for tuition, in first year most students live in student halls which cost on average 7000 a year.
Overview:
Since 2015 Liverpool became UNESCO Music City, and as a Music student, I decided to sign for my course here. It is also one of the best Universities in the world. I tried to inform about it more and everything so far was true.
Fees:
University course programme costs 9250 pounds per year for music students. University provides 10 classes with the professor, other than that needs to be paid.
Overview:
I chose this university due to the range of opportunities offered. This is evident through the third year modules such as the law clinic. It allows you to gain practical experience which makes you more employable. The university offers a range of opportunities such as the street law programme and volunteering in the law clinic prior to taking a third-year module. It aims to enhance your employability.
Fees:
The fees were 9250 a year. I had to live on campus for first-year which was $158 a week for a double bed and shared kitchen and en suite. This was for self-catered. It required a deposit of $150. This year I moved into a house which charges $90 a week with a $200 deposit.
