What students say about University of Glasgow
Likes
- The project is offline and presents a good opportunity for us to work at CVR, which is a center for virology research in the UK.
- I have not applied to any jobs yet; however, I am aware of students working in the widening participation field. They get to go out to schools and speak about the joys of university life.
- There is an annual careers fair for students to interact with employers who offer placements and summer or spring internships.
- The program also covered the degree fee for 4 years, in addition to the British Heart Foundation stipend (~£20000 per year tax free with an increment every year).
- The University of Glasgow is renowned for its lively and diverse student clubs and societies.
- I lived in student accommodation in the first year. It cost around £600 a month and was attached, so we were very lucky to have got very good conditions.
- As I am conducting doctoral research, its a one-to-one project with your supervisor, and each supervisor is allowed a maximum of 5 PhD students at a time to ensure everyone is well supported.
- The location of this university is excellent, and I can get there using great transport links.
Dislike
- Finding a job in the UK is not the most difficult thing; however, finding one that is willing to sponsor a work visa is very difficult

- Well, As I have been doing a joint degree being delivered by 4 different universities, I attended three universities in person in three different countries. All these three universities were very different in terms of facilities. In terms of accommodation, the Tallinn University dorm was cheap and available but the university accommodation at Glasgow University was costly and not easily available. The same was the case of the university in Ireland.,
- The library opening hours at university of Glasgow and Maynooth University were very good as these were bigger universities than Tallinn University.,
- Student support systems as in counselling services were good at all universities.
- Dislikes:
- But please note as I was doing one semester at each university that was one of the reasons I was facing difficulty in terms of having acc. But it could have been arranged better.
Overview:
Well, I wanted to change my field of work and experience an international educational system. So, I applied for this course as it seemed very fascinating to me to do a master's in 3 different countries. I got a fully funded scholarship as well. My overall experience has been very enriching as I get to travel, study with people from diverse backgrounds, and experience different cultures and academic environments. My tuition fee, living cost, health insurance and airfare were all covered except my visa application fee. So, it was not that stressful financially for me to pursue this degree which I understand is very expensive if you are going to do it self-funded. Universities like the University of Glasgow are very reputed in the top 100 ranking for their quality of education, research and other things. Overall, my experience was good but definitely very challenging and stressful at times as well as I have been moving to a new country every semester which means finding a place to stay, visa applications settling in a new place and constant planning of travel, academic stuff and other things. It was challenging no doubt but very much worth to be experienced.
Fees:
My programme fee was 18000 euros.

- I liked the following things about my university:- 1- Campus 2- Ranking 3- Extracurricular 4- Faculty 5- Historic Influence
Overview:
I chose this university because it was ranked 76th around the globe according to world QS ranking universities. Additionally, this university is one of the oldest universities in the world.
Fees:
32850 GBP

- My university was very pretty. Great exposure.
- Dislikes:
- Course wasn’t worth it. Not a good option for people with loan issues.
Overview:
I chose this university as the course this university was offering covered all the topics which I always wanted to study. Also, this university had a great reputation which was also a major plus point for me while choosing this university.
Fees:
30 lakhs
- Likes:
- The Infrastructure: I liked the infrastructure of the University a lot. For a Harry Potter fan, studying at this University is like a dream come true. Cloisters look heavenly pretty during winter/Christmas. You can outshine on your Instagram with just one picture of a University building, but what will one do with the building when there's no placement, and no job security after graduation?,
- Faculty: Most of the faculty members are really nice and have good knowledge of the subject. But you will definitely find some of them just reading the ppts and saying anything and everything to satisfy your questions.,
- College Life: Life abroad is full of fun. In University you'll meet people from different ethnicities and beliefs. There will be great exposure and fun every day.,
- Alumni: UoG has a widespread alumni network of noble prize holders, business man's, scientists, etc. You can always exploit this advantage to ripen your fruits.
- Dislikes:
- No placement: You have to pay a hefty amount of fees just like Indian IITs and IIMs in India, but you won't get any placement unlike them. These Universities organize career events and counselling sessions to provide placements, but reality is start-ups come to sessions to promote themselves and bigger firms just come and give you their website address or cards and go off by saying check online. Then it's up to you only to apply, face 100's of rejection and finally make it if you can.,
- Lack of funding: After BREXIT, most of the Universities in the UK are facing funding crises, that's why they don't have internships/ research opportunities, especially for science students.,
- One-year Masters Program: One year program is too short to analyze, adapt and act. But it can be good for those who have good work experience already and looking to grow rapidly.
Overview:
To be honest, I chose this college in a hurry. I also got letters from the University of Edinburgh and UCL, but my financial conditions didn't allow me to join UCL as you've to show a 12.5Lakh London living allowance to join it, whereas 9.5 for the rest of the UK. Fees were bearable for UOG, So I decided to go for it. Also, I wanted a blend of Biotech and management programs, as I didn't want to pursue a PhD or research and wanted to join a biotech firm as a Project manager or in Operations, so I thought this course and this Uni would be perfect. I would rate my overall experience as 2.5/5.
Fees:
£23,000 for 1 year in 2022. It must have increased now.
- Likes:
- Friendly professors who are always ready to help,

- Various extracurricular opportunities,
- Part-time jobs and other volunteering opportunities available at the university,
- I like the academic aspects and clubs and societies aspect. There are lot of options.
- Dislikes:
- No dislikes as such.
Overview:
I chose this university as it ranked very high in the life science field, that was a major factor. Another was that it had a very good curriculum.
Fees:
28000 pounds but I think it's increased this year.
- Likes:
- Most of the professors are very supportive and will give their time whenever possible.,
- A lot of networking opportunities.,
- One of the best campus infrastructures.
- Dislikes:
- As an International student, We lack guidance on how to perform well in our exams and match expectations for a better grade. For a one-year course, We do not get broad exposure to anything.,
- Complicated grading system for PGT students.,
- As it's our first in-person exam post-pandemic, they have not updated past papers.
Overview:
I chose the University of Glasgow, as other universities, I had applied to had offered me an alternate course and not my desired course. My overall experience at the university is average for finance.
Fees:
32775 GBP= 36,00,000 INR tuition and 15,000,000 INR for accommodation

I was motivated to move ahead in tech and learn more about the emerging field of Data Science. Since I had plans to study abroad from a very young age, I started looking for the top universities. After applying with my proposal to the top universities in the UK, I got selected in 2 of the most prestigious universities. Amongst them, I decided to go ahead with the University of Glasgow because of its excellent research output in my domain. The course contents were the latest and quite daunting. And the cherry on top was the amazing city of Glasgow in the heart of Scotland.

24,500 GBP

- The architecture is gothic and amazing. Student accommodation and student hubs/library are really good. The student union is quite helpful as well.
Overview:
I joined this university as I was attracted to this University since my course is research-oriented and this particular University places well in the world ranking in terms of research. The modules were laid out well and practical laboratory courses are the highlight. Coming to the admissions process - it was very easy and all online. Any hassles mid-way will be taken care of by the Uni admin department.
Fees:
26,500 GBP per year (when I paid in 2022, could have increased now). It is a one-year Master's course in the UK.
- Likes:
- Very inclusive, safe environment for students coming abroad.,
- Wide range of extracurricular activities and opportunities.,
- The library is the best place in the whole campus.
- Dislikes:
- The management can be a little rigid with the rules and restrictions.,
- The course material might be a little difficult to grade for students coming from an Indian background school.
Overview:
University of Glasgow rates very high on the world scale for the program which I was keen on and that was the only reason that drove me to choose UofG. My overall experience was very good- I met the nicest people and got to work on my favourite topics during my dissertation.
Fees:
I had to pay 34,00,000 without accommodation.
- Likes:
- University was really good. It was in the Top 100 universities in the world.,
- Quality of education was good. The courses were very practical where we had to brainstorm the solution. The exams were very practical oriented and didn't ask any theoretical questions. The staff was very supportive of all the things.
- Dislikes:
- I enrolled during the Covid time which didn't give me full exposure to the university facilities. There is no placement system, so I had to search for jobs own my own. There is a lot of competition in job, so it takes a lot of time to find the right job."
Overview:
Overall experience was really good and it is always worth studying at a top university.
Fees:
The tuition fees of my program was around 23 lakhs and other accommodation fees. This varies with program and can increase every year or decrease, it totally depends on the university.
