What Students Say
Likes
- Research oriented curriculum in par with industrial standards.
- The ancient infrastructure of the university( also called the Hogwarts of Scotland)
- The opportunity to learn from classmates and professors for all around the globe inculcating a rich diverse educational experience.
Dislikes
- While the infrastructure of the university is breath taking, practically attending the classes would make us to run from one corner to another corner is very time consuming. It would be really helpful if they can work on the time table and class allotment schedule keeping this fact into consideration.
- Would appreciate if we are provided with more industrial visits.
- Since the Masters program is 1 year, I think it would be really interesting if we can choose to do a dissertation under the University or in a private institution.
Course Curriculum
-
The difficulty level is moderate. Course was mainly focusing on the industrial standards. We had equal number of classes and labs. Research oriented . Theoretical final exams.
-
Positive aspect is the curriculum designed to balance research and industrial applications with challenging courseworks for every subject studied.
-
Negative aspect is that the Sem 3 was only focused with dissertation which would leave a lot to be distracted. Since there would be any classes, it’s the most isolated Sem with no much interaction with any classmates.
Admission Experience
-
Well, I applied only for 6 universities, enlisting
- University of Glasgow
- Leeds University
- University of Manchester
- Kings college London
- Bristol University
- Durham University. -
I got rejection from Kings and Bristol because I applied for the fourth round( delayed submissions )
-
The very first acceptance was from Leeds, followed by Durham , then my Univeristy - University of Glasgow.
I chose to take up University of Glasgow, as I had heard good things about its curriculum and also the friendly neighbourhood of Glasgow. (Ps- also a Harry Potter fan, it’s the Hogwarts of Scotland so little biased )Once my Visa got processed, I got to hear back from Manchester that I got accepted so I had to leave that offer.
So yes that’s how I got into my Masters journey.
-
Decision factors :
* Curriculum, Infrastructure, Alumni network, Glasgow as a friendly neighbourhood , the faculty. -

-
One teacher to whole classroom , but we had more online recordings and lab had 5 lab assistants. dissertation 1 professor for 5 students , but always 1 on 1 meeting- so it was full of attention to each student research work.
-

There are a lot of other part times available in the University there is a website for student job opportunities where every student can apply online. Like guides, ambassadors, help centres, technical help, library assistance
-
Max of 20 hours per week Students can work.
- It’s easy get the write resume and a letter of recommendation from the professor -
Max 20 hours per week so roughly around 800 pounds. -it’s kind of easy to get part time than full time. - it’s like a chain of referral. That’s the best way to get part times through internal referrals. Networking places a huge role. But can also apply via websites, indeed portals. I got my part time through indeed. Apply for jobs by submitting the resume and application, get the interview call, attend and then job is yours with some training provided by the company.
Placement
- We got no campus placements. Yet, we are giving job assistance where they advise onto our CVs. Advised to connect with the alumni network for internal references.
- Job search is hard. Around 50 get placed from 150. Prior work experience is very much valued.
- The companies that my friends got hired into are mainly startup’s in the field of data. Major companies are Analytics companies, health care sector
Accommodation
- I lived in Student accommodation from the University portal and invite.
- Student accommodation is expensive but convenient. We will have a lot of student interaction activities by the University.
- I stayed only a mile from university. Most of the Indians stay in and around university . Most of us take student accommodation but some also take up private accommodation in sharing which is budget friendly.
Exams
-
IELTS is mandatory for all the students.
( GMAT / GRE optional for my field)
I just wrote IELTS - score above 7 is appreciated. -
Documents
CV, two LORs, SOP must.
LORs from your bachelors professors or from your working place by your Managers or Seniors.
- Your Mark sheets from Bachelors.
- If you have work experience, then the internship report of experience letter from the company. -
no interview conducted .
Fees
-
Fee - (in pounds)
~29000 tuition fee
~ 7000 accommodation contract for 39 weeksFee can be paid monthly, yearly.
-
My monthly expense goes like -
- Accommodation fee mentioned above payed in 7 installments.
- Groceries 150 pounds
- Transportation max 60 pounds
- Entertainment or social club activities 50 pounds
- Travelling to nearby places in breaks and eating out in restaurants 50 pounds
Scholarship
- I was not able to receive the scholarships, as the scholarship options to my field of study was very limited and I applied for my Masters at the very last minute.
- There would be around 10 to 15 of 150 people who got the scholarship like I recollect.
- Would advice to keep a check on the university website and apply as soon a possible for more chances on getting the scholarship.
