Course Curriculum Overview
I studied BSc. Honours in Human Development from JD Birla. The subject itself is very integrated and multidisciplinary. It covers a plethora of topics including counselling, sociology, early childhood care and education, prenatal development and care, gerontology, extension education, psychology, and much more. A person can go ahead with research work, pursue masters's or any other higher studies, etc. The faculty taught us with utmost care and with proper practical approach.
Internships Opportunities
JD Birla institute offers various internship opportunities to students. Department-wise all the internships are mandatory. So for eg: For nutrition department there are companies like ITC, Emami, for Textile department there are textile related companies, same for interior designing. for the department of Human Development they had organisations like NGOs, counselling centres, clinics, preschools.
Placement Experience
From 5th Semester, the students become eligible for placements. There are a lot of companies hiring students from our college including Delloite, CRY, Small Wonders. Students who were genuinely interested to work after studies went ahead with placements. However, most of the students go ahead with higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
JD. Birla is a renowned college in Kolkata, West Bengal. It offers a variety of courses. The course I studied was BSc Honours in Human Development. It was divided in 6 semesters. The joining fees was somewhere around 98 thousand. Every semester we had to pay around 65 thousand(inr). The fees was similar for all my batchmates from any category. Scholarship is mostly merit-based.
Campus Life
My overall experience with campus life in JD Birla was nothing short of experiencing new things. There were annual functions, inter-college competitions, department fests. JDBI has an amazing learning resource centre with its membership with British library. The classrooms are digitalised.
Admission
JD Birla is located in my hometown,Kolkata. Plus it is affiliated to the Jadavpur university, and the subject was something very interesting and fresh. JD Birla was the only college providing us with a BSc. honours in human development. The admission criteria for my college was on the basis of merit.
Faculty
The faculty members for my subject were par excellence. Their knowledge, experience and guidance helped us gain strong basis of knowledge and expertise. There were two sets of exams for every semester including an internal test and final end semester examinations.
Night Life
JDBI is located in the heart of the city and has the busiest road. There are several cafes, malls, and places to hang out. We have our most popular park street where Oxford Book Store, all the most renowned restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries including Flury's are all located there. So all in all this males Park Street a much better place.
