- The colege is purely focused on placements and hardly encourages students to pursue any other career streams.
- The sports facilities and funding provided by authorities is inadequate.
Course Curriculum Overview
1. The fact that our college wad the first to start engineering in CS branch and that this course is among the favorites of the aspirants made me want to pursue it. 2. The curriculum constantly evolves to introduce subjects that would be relevant to the real life demands of the industry. 3. However, the objective of introduction of new subjects and evolving curriculum is still missing in terms of practical applications of the subjects. 4. The exams are held twice each semester and assignments/quizzes are held across the year. The difficulty level of these assessments is at quite a high level.
Internships Opportunities
1. Major companies coming to college are DE Shaw, Citicorp, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, Oracle etc. The stipend varies from company to company from 30000 to 175000. However average stipend is around 60000-75000. 2. Most of the companies even offer PPOs to the interns. 3. The competitiveness is especially high during the internship season. The companies thoroughly check the knowledge of candidates though online assessments, interviews and project assessments. The projects developed by the students are extremely important in determining the candidate's knowledge.
Placement Experience
1. The students become eligible to sit for internships and placements from 3rd and 7th semester respectively. 2. Well reputed companies like JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Microsoft, Oracle, Citicorp, Morgan Stanley, DE Shaw etc visit the college campus. 3. Highest package last year was around 70-75 lpa from Oracle to around 6-8 students. Average package for Cse branch was around 28 lpa with avg. package for all branches around 20 lpa. 4. Around 90% students from all branches and 88% from Cse branch out of the total eligible candidates secured job offers. 5. I also intend to secure an internship and then a placement in a well reputed company through the college.
Fees and Financial Aid
For students with income above 5 lpa :- 1. Hostel fee - 24000/- 2. Institute fee - 20000/- 3. User charges - 18000/- 4. Tuition fee - 125000/- 5. Extra curricular activity fee - 1200/- (*Caution money - 5000/- only for first semester) Only changes in fee for students with other income categories lies in tuition fee. All other fee sections remain same. For students with income 1-5 lpa :- 1. Tuition fee - 41666/- For students with income less than 1 lpa or SC/ST/PwD students :- 1. Tuition fee - NIL All fee information provided is for an year but actually the fee payment is based per semester and not an entire year.
Campus Life
1. Culrav-Avushkar is the name of our annual techno-cultural fest which spans a whole week and was held during the second week of November last year. 2. The books/journals for course subjects are readily available. However availability is not much for other literature books. 3. Only some classrooms are air conditioned and have smartboards. Rest have fans and blackboards only. 4. The sports and extra curricular culture is kept alive by the collge students only through clubs and committees. Very little financial aid is provided by college authorities. 5. Various college committees, clubs, and social welfare groups are indeed active at Mnnit and run by the students themselves.
Hostel Facilities
1. Facilities like laundry, stationary, canteens are present within hostels. 2. The meals provided in the mess are for specific times. Though the food is purely veg, the quality is quite decent. 3. The registration process requires online fee payment and a physical registration at your respective branch departments. 4. The hostel rooms are not very spacious and bot well maintained. There is no notable pg facility around the campus.
Admission
1. I chose MNNIT CSE over branches like Civil, Chemical etc. from the top 7 IITS. The main reason was the popularity of the CSE branch in the job market. 2. I didnt go for other colleges as I wanted to pursue CSE (the branch with excellent corporate demand). 3. The admission to the college is mostly through JOSAA counselling and CSAB counselling for Indian students. The admission is based on the JEE Mains category ranks and all india ranks respectively for the above counsellings. However, the admission for non-Indian students is through DASA counselling.
Faculty
1. The faculty of the college is extremely qualified. Although the faculty-to-student ratio in Cse branch is not very good, there are no failures on the part of faculty in delivering quality lectures and education material. Also, the faculty is fairly eager in addressing doubts during the college hours. 2. Prof. Divya Kumar, Prof. Ranvijay, Prof. Shashank Shrivastava and Prof. Mayank Pandey are among the best faculty members. The thing common between them is that they all focus on logic development, practical learning and all deliver quality lectures. 3. There are no Professors in my department that I specifically dislike. 4. The exam time is specially stressful. The exams are held consecutively one after the other without any day of preparatory leave. The level of exams is also quite difficult which explains why it is one of the most sought after courses. Even then, students with right study approach and focused learning some time prior to the exam can help them get good grades. Though there are some unnecessary assignment submissions, the course is quite relevant to the present demands in the industry .
Night Life
1. There are seperate gyms for girls and boys within the college campus. The cafes are located within the campus as well as in close proximity. However much of the college campus is not allowed for the students to discover. 2. All hostels have one or two night canteens running late till 2-3 pm. Hostels also have a common room for tv, table tennis etc. 3. Civil Lines is the favorite spot for students outside the college campus. 4. The night timings for first year girls and boys is 8.30 and 10 pm respectively. From second year onwards, the timings extend to 10 pm for girls while there is no in time for boys.
