Course Curriculum Overview
Main aspects include hybrid course model, various oppourtunities to take relevant subjects of interest, industry ready course structure. Our curriculum more focused on thinking of real world problems and how to deal with that and lab experience trains us for academic pursuit. In the 7th and 8th semester some courses can be relaxed and students should get freedom to do internships and preparation for jobs or academic career. Frequency and timing of exams are optimal and their difficulty can be reduced.
Internships Opportunities
Microsoft, Wells fargo, JP Morgan Chase generally offers summer internship with stipend of 1lac/month and the roles are software development intern. Many projects are available like in the field of software development, in core engineering disciplines, management roles. Their outcomes are generally very nice students who got internships got extra benefits in time of campus placements and can train themeselves for industry. They have to present their work before students and professors what they have learnt.
Placement Experience
From 5th semester students are eligible for summer internships followed by Pre-placement offer and from 7th semester students are eligible for full time placements. Some companies are- Microsoft, Apple, salesforce, adobe, Accenture, infosys, tcs, Reliance, Hindustan petroleum corporation limited, zscaler, quantiphi, Maq software, Hero, Larsen and Toubro, Hyundai etc. Offers made till date are around 500. highest package is 80LPA and average is 7 LPA. percentage of students getting placements is around 70-75% My plan is doing my job IT job for 4 years after that I can switch for better oppourtunities.
Fees and Financial Aid
For academic fees I have paid Rs. 27,600 per year for hostel I have paid Rs. 40,000 per year. Year wise the course fee is increasing. Tuition fees(per semester)- 1)Rs.13,800 (for SC/ST and whose family income is less than 100000 per annum) 2) Rs. 34634 (whose family income is between 1lakh to 5Lakh per annum) 3) Rs. 76300 (whose family income is greater than 5Lakh per annum) Scholarships that are available- SVMCM(for students whose home state is West Bengal), National Scholarship Scheme etc.
Campus Life
Annual Technical fest- Aarohan and cultural fest- Recstacy, Aarohan generally held in mid march and Recstacy generally held in starting of april. The library is well equipped with many books and international journals and high speed internet facility is available. The classrooms are well equipped with projector, Microphone and some has smartboard also. Students activity center is there for any kind of sports and gym is also there. BMEP helps poor students to give free education and other necessary facilities, Prakiti helps to spread awareness for green and clean campus.
Hostel Facilities
free unlimited wifi service, drinking water service, study table, reading light are given. meal is good in 4th year hostel and menu generally includes north indian, south indian and bengali foods. at the starting of the semester hostel registration starts and it is affordable. generally in our college hostel is mandatory but if anyone wants PG then he/she can find it in nearby Recol park.
Admission
I applied for Kalyani Goverment engineering college, Jadavpur university, Jalpaiguri government engineering college, IIEST shibpur and I got confirmation from NIT Durgapur. Because NIT Durgapur has better infrastructure and better academic curriculum and also have NIT tag. I have applied to IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee but I couldn't get because of my JEE advanced rank. Through JEE mains exam if your rank is good enough you can get this college. Eligibilty is having science background in 12th and cutoff is 80 percentile. Overall admission experience is very good and smooth.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is= 5:1 Faculties are very helpful and approachable also in case of any doubts or help. Faculties I liked Oindrilla ma'am, Sougata sir, Sudipta sir, Amita ma'am, Sufia ma'am, Debjani ma'am I liked them because of their behaviour and approachability for any kind of help. I don't like Amlan sir because he is too rude and could not explain his subject properly. Per Semester offically 2 exams happens and they are moderate to difficult. Around 25% student fail to clear the exams and rest can clear the exam. The course curriculum is relevant very much if you want to go for further higher studies or you want to go for industrial jobs.
Night Life
gym, cafeteria, library and other public area genearlly closes around 9 pm. hostel in timings are on or before 7 pm and campus in time is before 10 pm. hangouts places inside campus- nescafe, wonder cafe, ovals ground; and outside campus- junction mall, dominos, city center area. locality is safe to roam around in night.
