Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum is outdated and static. It's just the same for last decade if not more. The teaching method are not well equipped. One shouldn't be mistaken to think about having use of what they learn in the course in real life. It has no real use. It doesn't has the quality to enable students for post graduation entrance exams. To enable them to do research a student has to do hardwork from their side and stay on their toes to reap benefits if any out of this curriculum

Fees and Financial Aid

We talk about the fee structure for students wanting to pursue bachelor degree in science from wilson college at girgaon chowpaty, Mumbai. The fees for bachelor of science lies between 7800-9000/- yearly for general category students. It's highest in the first year, close to 8700/-( it does change for different subject combination) as a student need to be studying around 3 different subjects and 9 different papers in total. The most part of the fee is tuition fee(70-75%) there's lab fee for empirical subjects. There's Gymkhana fee, identity card fee, Library fee etc that constitute to the entire sum. The fees decreases and lies around 8000/- approx in the second year. The fee again is divided into tuition fee and other supplementary charges as mentioned above. And similarly it goes a little higher in third year above 8000/- for the final year. This was fee for completely open category students with no concessions. The SC/ST batchmates of mine had only paid 600/- in the first year and it stays around the 600-700 mark for the three year course. Students can avail scholarships through several national schemes. Female student too can avail benefits of national schemes. One need to check for themselves.

Campus Life

4

The campus life at Wilson College is not disappointing in fact Wilson host one of the most popular College fest in Mumbai which goes by the name OLE, the festival last around 2 to 3 days its fairly successful they get enough sponsorship to invite celebrities to host a lot of participants from various colleges there are stalls of food fashion gaming skin care products and different services in ole events around sports music dance arts happens it is quite happening and joyful. There other festivals to not as biggest the one above but fairly good. Hope and ather are smaller festivals of maybe 2 days or a day. They to have a lot of participants and are able to invite celebrities to have quite a good footfall. There are several clubs in the college including rotaract club. Student and social groups. Department clubs which keep arranging different extra curricular activities like debating competition art competition dance singing and different personality development and provide social networking opportunities

Admission

Mostly people choose this college because of its hyped up name and it's lactation. The crowd doesn't really comes here to study. Comparing it to other colleges. It does have fairly good system and infrastructure atleast. But it seriously lags anything good related to real education and course.

Faculty

3

The quality you would expect from a college like wilson isn't really available. The most part of faculty is either too senior and not really respectfully knowledgeable. And a handful of them really know how to teach , how to finish the syllabus, what is the subject really about. Most of them, show little to no interest in benefits and growth of students. The curriculum is outdated and doesn't match to what is needed in today's market place. The means of education lack zest, same old blackboard, one way delivery of information. A few good faculties who must be given due credit to their name are prof. Mahesh shetti, professor of physics, degree college physics department. He does understand what is the really need to shape a good student who wins. He tries to make the subject like electrodynamics, optics and radioactivty fun, and simpler. He utilises newer tools like python programming, graphing calculators to enhance the learning experience. Another one such inspiration is prof. Briji Jacob mam of math department. She teaches calculus, algebra, graph theory and subjects like such and has sound knowledge of what she speaks in front of a classroom. She is readily available and very cooperative. The exams are divided into two parts. Internal and external. There are two internal tests of twenty marks each in the beginning of the course, (one-two month into the course.) The tests are fairly difficult but not impossible to score good. There is semester exams at around 4th month mark of 60 marks. The difficulty level is moderate. But almost seventy to eighty percent students failed in first year and second year. And had to drop out as they couldn't get eligible. One needs to pass internal and external separately and to pass overalll as well in each subject.
