Course Curriculum Overview :
The curriculum is good but slightly outdated. The core CS subjects, such as data structures and algorithms, are taught in the second year. The syllabus related to web technologies is slightly outdated. Some subjects, like neural networks and business intelligence, which have very high real world usage right now, are taught in the last year.
Placement Experience :
Placements are decent. Most CSE and IT students get placed at 7+ LPA CTC. Highest package is around 20 LPA. For CSE and IT branches, the median package is around 7 LPA, and average package is slightly higher than that, around 9 - 10 LPA.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The yearly fee is roughly ?1.1 lakh, paid in two installments over the year. Examination fees are around ?3000 per semester. Both fees increase every year by around 5%. Scholarship is provided for students with low income backgrounds.
Campus Life :
Goonj is the annual techno-cultural fest of University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University. There are multiple clubs in UIET, and since it is part of Panjab University, students can also run for University-level elections.
Admission :
I applied to some IIITs as well, but University Institute of Engineering and Technology felt a better choice compared to some lower/newer IIITs. The admissions are done through JEE Mains scores, on the JAC Chandigarh portal.
Faculty :
Overall, the faculty is highly experienced and research oriented. For some of the subjects in the latter semesters, guest faculty/PhD scholars are assigned. There are two minor exams, and one major exam. In case of minor exams, the best one counts for each subject.
