Entrance Preview :

I qualified IIT JEE Entrance exam and got Admissions to the B.arch programmes at the IIT Kharagpur through an Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) I opt for this particular college because of some positive aspects like Passionate atmosphere. Be it drama, start-ups, music. You get into a society, you become passionate about it. That's the way it works for life.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The B. Arch program is of 5 years and is alienated into two phases. The first phase covers the three year full time course and 20 weeks internship at any professional organization or building sites. The second phase is characterized with the preparation research paper, design thesis and also conduct seminars. The second phases is for a duration of 2 years and it can be consider as the more practical based approach of the theory part. The student is evaluated in each ten semesters and the degree is awarded at the end of the tenth semester.

Internships Opportunities :

Students get on campus internship offers from excellent companies during their third year of engineering. They get paid around 35,000 per month (varies with the company).

Placement Experience :

The placements at IIT are pretty different from the thousands of engineering colleges in the country. You need to maintain a good CGPA (academic score roughly around 7 on 10), to get short listed by the great MNCs that visit the college every year. Microsoft, Google, Facebook, YES Bank, Nomura, Facebook and hundred more companies recruit students from the IIT Kharagpur campus. There are no mass placements, hence the salary students are offered is roughly around 7-9 lakhs per annum. International offers reach upto 50-75 lakhs per annum depending upon the company and your performance. And yes, needless to mention, 100% placements.

College Events :

There are various hostel events and games that are played on regular basis. Apart from the zillion national level competitions, there are two main festivals conducted round the year. Spring Fest, the cultural festival, is held in the month of January, where you see participation from all over India and live performance by great musicians and singers. 'Kshitij', the techno management festival, is held around February. There are active clubs for robotics, Formula SAE (making racing cars), Kraig (artificial intelligence), E-cell (entrepreneurship), Technology Transfer Group (TTG - it's links academic research to industry), etc.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Merit-cum-means scholarship of Rs.1000/- per month and a tuition fee waiver is awarded to 25% of students admitted under B.Tech, B.Arch, Dual Degree, Integrated M.Sc. and 2 year M.Sc program on fulfillment of prescribed Merit / Means criteria.B Students admitted to Dual Degree program are provided scholarships at par with B.Tech. students upto 4th year and at par with M.Tech in their 5th year upon fulfillment of prescribed norms.

Campus Life :

A major component of the awesomeness of campus life comes from the interaction between people within the campus. The location of the campus is important, of course and makes a difference no doubt. But I doubt its a large difference. At most, what you can do if you are in(or close to) some city is go for a movie or roam around the malls. There is nothing else you can do at a city.

Alumni/Alumna :

IIT-KGP has a long and historic legacy of Alumni Giving Back which has existed in one or the other form. The Graduating Class Gift is yet another chapter to be added in KGP alumni legacy initiated under My Imprint Program. It is a class-based effort directed towards raising unrestricted fund partially used currently and partially going towards Endowment. This particular part of the Endowment would again be utilized for students' services only. It is an opportunity for graduating students to take their first step in being soon-to-be alumni by making their Graduating Class Gift, the gift which impacts student life in the KGP campus. This challenge offers seniors the chance not only to make a gift, but also to leave behind their imprint.

Exam Structure :

For examinations, it's important to understand that your understanding of the course material is being tested, and not your mugging skills. This means that a professor can choose to be very thorough with the interrogation. erm, Exam. Another factor is tha

Faculty :

IIT and its teaching go hand in hand. Definitely, the teaching is at a premium level professors having immense knowledge related to their subjects. The teachers at IIT KGP are highly experienced and completed their degree, PhDs and what not from excellen

Placement Experience:

It is one of the only colleges where you get campus placement in architecture as well. The placements are decent with mostly architecture firms hiring but also some central government public sectors also come with higher pay packages. But mostly people do not study architecture thinking about placements, you need to apply outside to companies for better opportunities

Course Curriculum Overview:

couse curriculum could have been more practical based and professional, the syllabus feels more like a school syllabus than a professional study, I believe the syllabus must be revised and changes should be made as architecture itself defines Professionality.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The B.Arch course curriculum at IIT Kharagpur is very vast. Over a timespan of 4months, that is 1 Semester their are 2 class tests, 1 mid sem exam and finally 1 end sem exam. Its not that hard to pass the exam, all one needs is consistency.

Architecture dept. Doesn't give placements opportunities. Most of the students go for higher studies. So most of the companies don't come for placements. As for other engineering courses, the placement is top notch.

Just a single negative. The absence of maintenance of important labs. Rest everything is a positive, starting from faculty, their cooperation, care they take, opportunities provided by institution, affordability and so on.

It is okay. But definitely there is huge scope of improvement. In many of the cases the management and the administration will only be better if the people working at the lower level be more efficient.
