  • The mess food is extremely poor with no proper nutrition charts. Being the best in the country we expected more from our college. Also the internet connection is not up to the mark even though it stays online for most of the time it's still problema.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum in our college along with most other engineering colleges in the country is a bit primitive in nature and outdated in terms of immediate industry relevance just after getting out of college. But they fulfill the purpose of creating a holistic student who can dive deeper into any field he wants to. We have two exams for semester 1 mid-semester and one and the semester. The mid-semester consists of 30 marks and the end-semester of 50 marks with 20 marks at the discretion of the professors for either attendance or internal matters. Most of our professors follow a slideshow-based teaching approach where they walk into the class and simply teach from slides which I think is not very effective. The curriculum prepares the student well enough in order to autodidact in any field.

Internships Opportunities :

Internships and placements are never an issue in our college as stated earlier. Almost all big companies from the globe visit our campus ranging from Apple Google Facebook to high frequency trading firms like graviton and Quad Eye. Also, you can opt for study abroad programs and exchange studies with top universities globally from Japan Switzerland, and the United States. It is not mandatory for you to do an internship in only a top multinational corporation but can also do research internships under professors either on campus or globally in any renowned University. Being from one of the most prestigious iits in the nation the tag helps you in getting admission or approval from any college on the planet whether it be Tu Munich or the University of Tokyo. The IIT tag always helps. Also if you are from a core branch you can do internships in government sectors inside India where being from an IIT would actually help like for instance IOCL if you are from chemical engineering like me.

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for campus placement after the end of their 6th semester or third year. All though there eligible for internship after the end of 4th semester or 2nd year for on campus interviews. Almost all big companies of the nation and globally visit our campus. High-profile companies like high frequency trading firms like Quad Eye, graviton all visit our campus. The highest package offered for the computer science and mathematics and computing branch is around 2.2 crores while the median package is around 40 lacs. For my branch of chemical engineering the average package is 21 lakhs with median being 19 lakhs. All big tech companies like Google Apple Microsoft Amazon Facebook all visited campus. Placements and internships are never an issue in our college and are the last thing to worry about. If you can get admission here then you will have much more freedom to explore your entrepreneurial skills and pursue your passions as well.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Being a centrally funded autonomous institute the fees at the Indian Institute of Technology are pretty nominal. Compared to the private University is like bits but they are more expensive than the NITs. The fee is around 12 lacs for 4 years of bachelors for general category students while it is negligible for scheduled castes and tribes and economically weaker sections. Also if your parent's annual income is below 8 lakhs per annum then there are scholarships even for general students who can apply for them during their study. Even if you do not receive us scholarship you can easily get an education loan without any collateral and guarantee from Punjab National Bank or State Bank of India. IIT Kharagpur being an Elite institute in the country all banks sanction loans almost immediately without any prerequisites which you have to pay starting from 1 year after you graduate. Money can never be a barrier if one wants to study at IIT. Scholarship grants and financial aid are there

Campus Life :

The cultural fest of IIT Kharagpur Spring Fest is one of the largest in the nation second only to two mood Indigo of IIT Bombay. Apart from that we also have Kshitij our secondary technical management fest. We have one of the largest technology libraries in Asia, with the availability of books never being an issue. We also have our own in-house digital libraries along with physical books. The classrooms are very cute with centralized air conditioning systems and smart boards even though there is definitely room for improvement here There are dozens of clubs on the campus ranging from Formula 1 lovers to bookworms to movie lovers. Our drama society is one of the most renowned in the nation with greats like Jitendra Kumar and the organization the viral fever coming out from this very club. The sports and extracurricular activities are also the best in the country at least if not at par with American counterparts. Inter IITs are hosted every year.

Hostel Facilities :

Triple sharing rooms are mostly given in the first year with some getting double sharing and single very few. Being the top one percent of students in the country we expect better from our government but most of the facilities are not good. If you belong from an upper middle class background from an urban setting then Kharagpur may not be the place for you because it is not just a rural area but the hostels are also pretty outdated. It is affordable There is definitely a lot of room for improvement in this aspect from our admin

Admission :

Getting into an IIT is one of the toughest parts. In order to gain admission into IIT Kharagpur you need to crack first the JEE mains by scoring at least above 91 percentile which changes from year to year to be a eligible for JEE advanced. Then you will have to clear the cutoff of JEE advanced and then secure a good rank in order to get a decent branch in IIT Kharagpur which is a primary IIT and among global 100 engineering institutes on the planet. Yes, there is reservations in our admission process both for economically weaker sections as well as backward classes. Also, special reservation seats are there for female students. If you are a female then you will find it a bit easier to get a seat but still, you will have to work hard. A rank under 5000 would secure you are decent branch at our college. Although a rank under 15000 would definitely make you eligible to get a chance here. I don't see any area of improvement here as JEE advanced is the reason for the Elite quality of iit's.

Faculty :

Most of the faculty members in our college are top rated with phds from global universities. One of the key advantages of studying in a primary IIT is that the academic exposure you receive is at least best in the country if not at par with the best in the world. The faculty-to-student ratio is not so good with classes at least in the first year having around 90 students. Most of the professors don't know their students personally. Although if you are in the top 10% of the class you will be in the good books of the teacher but for the average Joe your teacher most probably won't even know your existence. But that does not mean you cannot approach your teachers personally in their office. But The frequencies is limited. Some faculties are best in the world with R HOD of electrical department Mr Chandan Chakraborty being an ex MIT professor and did his PhD from the University of Tokyo Japan as an exchange student. So yes studying in an IIT has its own benefits along with the cons

Placement Experience:

Recession is going on since last few years and being a private college obviously that has affected placements in our college also. The current situation of placement is not really good. Among students from all branches which each may have like 150 students, only 20 something got placed on campus. It is said that companies like TCS, Capegemini, Wipro, Amazon, Zscaler etc comes to campus for hiring but most just come and don't hire. This year highest package was 26.5 lakhs by only 2 students from our department, CSE.

The placement data of this college can be found on its site and if you work hard from your side the college will definitely bring in the companies and you will be placed depending on your skills. According to my knowledge the students becomes eligible for placement from 6 th semester this information may as be wrong so please refer to college once . College tries for almost 100 percent placements but with no skill even god can't help you so it comes to you individually how much have you grown. My plans after the degree is to get a job .
