Course Curriculum Overview :
The course was divided into 4 semester and 4 practicals. The syllabus is relevant to current competitive atmosphere of the country. Many of the topics from both physical geography and human geography overlap with syllabus of prestigious exams like UPSC and state PCS. Apart from that career in cartography, remote sensing, research, teaching is also open with the subject. Syllabus is comprehensive and well distributed over the semesters. Before the semester exams, regular tests were conducted for the students to sharpen their lessons.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Post graduate course in Isabella Thoburn College is self financed. So comparatively it is costlier than the same course offered in Lucknow University. Tuition fee for each semester was rupees forty thousand, which excluded the fee for educational excursions took place in between semesters. There was no option for campus employment.
Campus Life :
An annual fest called AURA takes place in our college, engaging colleges from all over Lucknow. A departmental literary festival called Macashbeth Geographically also takes place along with a number of seminars, and workshops on Remote Sensing, New Career Trends in Geography, etc. The library for postgraduates is a separate section from the main library and it needs a lot of improvement. Very few latest books are available and that too are not issued to the students. Overhead projectors are used by the teachers as a teaching aid. Annual sports meet take place around early December, the practice for which started a month ago. Apart from that, NCC, NSS, language learning courses, and talks by eminent personalities are organized from time to time. The campus is clean, peaceful, green and very student-friendly which allows students to relax or study in between classes/lunchtime.
Admission :
To take admission in a post graduate course, one has to score more than 50% in his/her graduation. Application form are available in college office and college's website. There is a reservation for Christian students. There was no entrance exam but the merit list was based the percentage of graduation marks of the students. The admission should be entrance based so that both the students and teachers can both identify the areas of the subject where more work is required. Entrance exam also encourages a healthy competitive spirit among the students.
Faculty :
There were 13 students in my post graduate programme of Masters in Geography (2019-2021). There are 5 teachers and all are well versed with their subject and able to teach us the same with proficiency. We were provided every possible help in understanding theory lessons, assignments, practicals, etc. We were made to sit for various unit tests before the University exam which helped us in our preparation of thr final exam.
