Mizoram University- A detailed review from a student.

I appeared CUET 2023 and I always wanted to be enrolled in a North-Eastern Central University and when I was searching for one, I saw Mizoram University who stood at the Top 1 University of North-East and I also got suggestions from alumni to join here. The curriculum and the syllabus is enough for any competitive exam plus you'll get good explanation, to the point material and no tiring(boring) lectures. Everything is on point and you'll have a great exposure to all the leading research institutions for geology, as it is my field that's why I know. Internal exams are held every 1.5 months and they are moderately hard. The MCQs that the professors prepare are competitive exam oriented.

For geology, I got the opportunity to do Internships at Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology and NESAC under ISRO. I didn't apply to other organisations but the exposure that you'll get from here to every other organisations is immense for experience purposes as well as job-seeking knowledge.

For geology there is no campus placement available for the moment but ONGC might be recruiting from the next 3 years or so. Otherwise engineering, tourism and management placements are available with 8LPA as average package. For geology, there is an ample opportunity for PhD with leading institutions as you'll have the exposure here plus you can pursue PhD here also. I am thinking of pursuing PhD here itself after finishing NET

The fee structure is like any other Universities. The first year fees will be around 9120 INR and after completion of First Semester the Second Semester fees will be around 5150 INR. It encompasses the medical fees, transportation fees, sports fees, gym fees etc. There is a health centre which is available 24*7 and buses running to and fro inside the University campus as well as to the city which is also a part of the semester fees. No additional fees is taken other than the above mentioned money. Centrally sponsored scholarships are available that you can apply in the first year like UGC etc.

Campus life is very happening and lively. There is one student rin council group which organizes and annual event which is the biggest in Mizoram called Virthli. Regarding sports, it's known for football and basketball. With high end stadium facility it is great for students who wants to pursue a career in football. There is one gym and indoor stadium equipped with badminton courts as well as table tennis courts. There is a Central Library with more than 1 Lakh quality books with seating and studying capacity, automated issuing facility and Web Opac for saving students' time.

The course eligibility is- BSc with Geology as honors, Have appeared CUET Or Have appeared in the MZU Entrance Test. Minimum 65% marks in BSc. I got admission through CUET. You need to fill up your name in the admission portal and wait till the merit list is declared. Competition for seats is high but a minimum of 150 marks in CUET is preferred.

All the professors in my department are highly experienced and qualified. Currently there are 6 permanent professors and 1 guest faculty with more than 20 phd scholars who are ever ready to help you whenever you're in need. The faculty aim in bringing out what's better in you by giving much needed time for self-studying and personal assessment. Whenever I'm in doubt about something I can quickly ask my professors without any hesitation and they quickly react with maximum number of solutions possible. All the classes are tech-enabled and clean with the best non-teaching staff as well.
