IIIT Bhubaneswar review

Dislikes

  • No AC hostel room is provided even though the charge for single room charges are very high and there are AC points too.
  • There is involvement of students in management and there is no coordination between different centers such as examination centre

Course Curriculum Overview :

I choosed computer science branch as it is in most demand right now. Also IIIT Bhubaneswar has grown a lot within few years and its growth rate was much more anticipating than other old college available. For the first year, all the subjects in 11th and 12th are repeated with some electronic and electrical subjects with only a single subject related to programming language. It's same for all branches in first year. With the passing years, number of electronic subject decreases and number of subject beneficial to CSE increases. But it's disappointing that as the placement time approaches, many of the subjects are theoretical and not related to CSE such as renewable energy, environmental science. These topics can be taught in 1st or 2nd year instead of 6th semester! Each semester is almost of 4 months and there are two exams in each sem(midsem and endsem), quizzes are excluded, each within a duration of 1.5 months.

Internships Opportunities :

3-4 companies come for internship purposes and each company selects upto 4-10 students. The stipend ranges from 7k to 50k per month. The top companies for internships are oracle and dell, and there are 80% chances for PPO.

Placement Experience :

From the start of the 7th semester, students become eligible for placements. The placement used to be so good and the graph was increasing exponentially. But for to recession, last year's placements were not good at all. There was almost 100% placement in CSE, IT and CE branches and 80% in ETC and EEE. But due to the recession, it dropped drastically. The highest package provided on campus is 39LPA by media.net, taking only one student. The average salary used to be 12LPA which dropped to 7LPA due to the recession. The condition of placement cells is not good currently and many students are in doubt regarding their placements. Many are opting for higher studies or trying off campus.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees is nearly 1,15,000 per semester including tuition fees, library fees, wifi fees, etc. Hostel fees and mess fees are excluded. If you are opting for single room(it's like a flat) it's 25k per semester for girls and 30k per semester for boys. And it's 13-19k for two and three seater rooms. The tuition fees is excluded for TFW students. And there is not much opportunity for scholarships. There are many scholarships schemes for the students but maybe there are not available since few years.

Campus Life :

There are lots of events and the annual techno-cultural event is ADVAITA, which usually takes place for 4 days I'm February end or March starting. Apart from this there are clubs dedicated tech, dance and music, theatre, art, photography etc. Library is full of different types of books and even though it's small in size, it's rich in variety.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel accomodation is notified through official emails. And it is asked before the starting of each academic year. Hostel is compulsory for first year with the allotment of 3 or 4 seater (no other options are available for first year). Second year onwards student get options for single, double, triple and four rooms

Admission :

The admission process is through JOSAA counselling for non-native students based on their JEE mains rank. And there is 50% seat reserved for native students and they get admission through the college website. The admission link is available on the college website for native students before the JOSAA counselling starts. So it's better to keep a regular check on the college's official website. There are basic quotas available and special rounds are also there after round 6 or 7. Usually, there is no option to get the notification for starting of admission process for native students. Non-nonset students, can get admission through JOSAA.

Faculty :

The faculty to student is good enough. But many senior and experienced faculty left the college due to some reasons. But the new faculties as well as some senior faculties are very nice, and they help students a lot and they tell us a lot about the available opportunities, except some few professors who keep grudges against students. One worst thing is, the marks are mostly in the hands of the professor and there is not particular official marling scheme. As the batch size is very small, there is lot of interaction between professor and each student. This is a very plus point as interaction with professors directly is limited in other colleges.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is similar to all the colleges. but the extra curricular facilities provided by the college, differen societies present in differen domain will help you in growing your skills and knowledge in your sector. College keep organising tech fest, alumini meet, and global awareness meeting to keep the students up to date with present world. Course curriculum can be improved, I personally think, many new elective subjects are added which are not beneficial for my stream CSE.And the attendace is very compulsury for getting ood marks. Smart Boards and White Board teaching ares used which depends on teacher's choice. There is normally two exams in a semester , midsem of 20 marks in time 1hr 30 min, and endsem exam of 50 marks in 3 hr, and the rest marks depend on subject faculty. Mostly examination level is normal , if you are good student you can cover the syllabus in 1 week before exam.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario for now it not that good. There is regression going on so the companies aren't taking that many students. From the 3rd year you are eligible for placements. 450 companies came this year for placements making 5200 job offers. The highest placement this year was 63 lacs by Yugabyte. Average CTC is 8.5 lacs in all streams. Mass recruiters like Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini, Mindtree, Bosch, Ericsson, IBM etc. Many other notable companies that visited are Bain & Company, CME group, DE shaw & co, JP Morgan Chase etc. According to kiit website, 90% students are placed. 2100 students also got internships via capstone route. My plans after getting the degree is to do a job for some years and then after getting some experience I want to do a startup.
