Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is similar to that of other IITs and NITs. Electronics and instrumentation branch is considered less hectic compared to the other corcuital branches. The first 2 semester are with common subjects for all departments. The course subjects starts from 3rd semester. Our course consists of all the in demand subjects for real world and industrial application like Control Systems, Power electronics, Signals and Systems etc. The teaching methods however is not so great. It can be improved by the active engagement of both teachers and students. Most students attend the classes for attendance purpose only. The teacher and first clear out the basics and then lift the course further so that students and easily grasp concepts. Our classes start from 8am and complete at 2pm with 1hr Lunch break in middle. Then lab starts from 2 to 5pm. Every week we have four classes of each subjects and 1 additional tutorial class in which PhD scholars come to solve problems.
Internships Opportunities :
Internship opportunities are generally available for CSE students. It is difficult to find internship for circuital branch students. However student can find good internship opportunities in 3rd year through campus. Stipend amount generally varies with company to company and internship period. Companies like Microsoft pays stipend of 1 lakh to students.
Placement Experience :
Students become eligible for placements from 7th semester. Lots of companies including tech and core companies visit the campus for placements. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Swiggy, Facebook, Wipro, Atlassian, LG soft India, Cummins India, IOCL, BPCL, APDCl etc visit the campus. Highest package offered is of 86 LPA and average package of our branch is 14 lpa. PSUs also hire students directly. Above 95% of the eligible students get placed from EIE every year. I would like to do job after my BTech.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Tuition fee generally increases by 1K to 3K in each semester. And the hostel fee almost stays constant for fee semester. There are 3 categories of tuition fee, first is with parents income more than 5lpa, second with income between 1-5 lpa and last one with income below 1 lakh/ SC,ST. Most amount is paid by the former and it decreases with later categories. Being an OBC I have to pay around 30K in each semester for tuition fee whereas general student pay 62.5K per sem. The third category students pay 8500 of compulsory charges per sem. The college helps to find other extra scholarships for those students who come from weak financial background. I also receive scholarship and the total fee of my BTech with hostel fee would sum up to 5 lakh rs. There is no such campus employment for BTech students in NIT Silchar.
Campus Life :
NIT Silchar hosts Tecnoesis as technical fest and Incandescense as it annual cultural fest. Tecnoesis, this year was held in the first week of February and Incandescense was held in last week of February. Incandescense is extravagant fest which welcomes Bollywood singers every year. There are many clubs in the college like Coding club, Machine learning club, Drama club, Dance club etc. Our Library is Asia's biggest digital library. At the beginning of each semester students are allowed to issue books of related course subjects from the library and these books needs to be returned before the registration of next semester. Students are given library card which gives them access to the library for studying also. The facilities of classrooms for 1st and 2nd year students are not good. Classrooms are old and small with less seating capacity. There is a club called Gyansagar which aims to help poor people and students residing near the campus by teaching small students.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel facility for first year students is great. However second year hostel is not so good. The rooms are often overfilled due to less capacity. Every room has beds, tables and chairs. There are WiFi routers and lan connection with normal internet dpeeds. The quality of mess foods keeps changing. The food menu is quite impressive which offers separate items for veg and non veg daily but the quality of food is not good. The messes are usually unhygienic and dirty. The registration for hostel is done on the same day as the registration of courses are done. The hostel rooms can be considered affordable compared to rented house costing with food outside the campus. The rooms are little congested. The campus is remotely located so renting options are limited and not that great.
Admission :
The admission process was quite smooth. It was streched for 3 days, so not much rush was there for admission. The admission was done on the basis JEE Mains examination through Josaa counseling. EIE is ranked 3rd in NIT Silchar after CSE and ECE. A candidate need to prepare for JEE mains examination which comprises Physics, chemistry and mathematics question. After the examination seat allocation is done through Josaa counseling and CSAB. Once the seat is confirmed by the student, the college then sends the list of documents which needs to be submitted on admission date. A student with reservation can get admission easily as compared to general category students. Being OBC, I got admission at 93 percentile and my Gen friend got admission at 97 percentile. JEE mains happens 2 times a year in Jan and April. The process could be improved by making it online and less time consuming. Since ot was offline, we had to be in line for whole day for verification of documents.
