  • Administration: Since the Institute is composed of masters and PhD students comprising 90% of the population, the issues of the Undergraduate community tend to get lesser attention owing to their small population
  • Academic load: Quizzes are held every week, sometimes surprises quizzes are held with no prior information. The assignments given require detailed solutions and contribute to the final grade. Hence the academic load is relatively high here.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is designed perfectly to enhance critical thinking in students and their scientific temperament. The course focuses more on the research aspect, with emphasis being given to lab classes and practical understanding of subjects. In the first three semesters, the student will have to study physics, chemistry, maths and biology. Apart from this, a course on humanities is also added for overall character development. Through the course of semesters new subjects like Earth Science and material sciences will be introduced, and there will also be an option to study various optional subjects like electrical engineering and electronics. All the faculty are highly trained industrial professionals. There are also 5 teaching assisstants announced for each students, who are PHd students available to help the students in understanding concepts. Class quizzes and assignments are given every week. Mid semester and end semester examinations are held once every semester.

Internships Opportunities :

The internship opportunities are open second year onwards and are very easy to obtain. Two types of internships are available: industrial and academic. Academic internships involve working under a professor with his team on their project over the course of a summer break. For this the student can approach any professors on campus, or even at other universities in India or abroad. However, these internships generally do not involve any stipends. Industrial internships are provided by the campus placement cell and generally involve a stipend depending on the job you get. Several companies come on campus to take interns for industrial research training.

Placement Experience :

Campus has a well functioning placement cell which assists students. Students are eligible to sit for placements in the last semesters, given that they have completed the required number of credits. However, a unique point about the institute is that since this is a research oriented institute, most students prefer to go for higher studies. Last year's data shows that only 6 students sat for placements, out of which 5 were placed with an average package of 15 lakhs per annum. The remaining vast majority of students went down two ways: either continuing to do their masters at IISc itself or going for PhD in their field. Out of 100 students, 60 students were accepted into prestigious international universities in the USA, Europe and Australia to conntinue their studies with a PhD and contribute to scientific research. The universities that accepted undergraduates from IISc ranged from University of Michigan to Oxford University to Caltech to University of Los Angeles and many more.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The tuition fee is very cheap and affordable in order to promote research culture in India. There has not been an increase since the last 10 years. For first year students, they will have to pay an admission fee of 20000, a refundable security deposit of 25000, and 33000 as the tuition fees for first year. The tuition fees for second, third and fourth years continues similarly. The hostel charges are 5000 per month, and the mess charges will vary depending on what meals you choose but it comes to approximately 5000 per month. One of the good things about IISc is that almost all the students are provided with scholarships to study. SC and ST students are directly waived off from paying any tuition fees. For the rest of students there exists INSPIRE Scholarship which gives you a stipend of 5000 per month. Till 2022 when KVPY mode was running, KVPY scholars were given 5000 monthly stipend with 20000 annual contingency grant.

Campus Life :

The college has a very vibrant social life. There are 2 fests held across the year. The first fest is RHAPSODY, the annual fest of IISc held in september of every year. It includes several concert shows, gaming events and much more. The other fest is PRAVEGA, the cultural and technical fest held in January. This fest is organised by the Undergraduate community and is one of the biggest fests in the country. Apart from this, alot of cultural events like Karnatka day, Janmashtmi, Durga Puja, Diwali and Holi are celebrated with grandeur. For new students, Freshers night and prom night are orgainsed by the campus community. The JN Tata Library is one of the biggest libraries in Asia available to all campus students. Apart from that, several smaller libraries like Ranade library are found in departments. There are several music, dance and educational clubs on campus which regularly host events and competitions. There are regular club meetings and academic excursions which make laerning fun

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel facilities provided by the campus are top notch. The hostels have been divided into blocks, with UG students being assigned E block, U block and S block. The rooms are well equipped with beds, fans, cupboards, and lights. The rooms in E block are twin sharing, while single occupancy rooms are available in U & S block. Room allotment is random. The hostels are assigned on the first day of coming to campus and are very cheap at 5000 per month. The hostels are located at a central location of the campus so that classrooms are nearby. The food provided at the campus is of excellent quality. There are 5 messes A and B being North Indian veg and North Indian non veg, C and D being South Indian veg and South Indian nonveg, and E mess providing a composite diet. The menus are decided by a mess committee elected from the students by the students. 4 meals are provided everyday, breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. Special items are made on festivals, dessert and beverages are there.

Admission :

Admission to the B. Sc. program at IISc Bangalore takes place via 4 modes: JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, IAT and NEET. Till 2021 there was a KVPY mode of entry but it was replaced by IAT (IISER Aptitude test) since last year. Cutoffs for different categories via different exams canbe checked at official website of the UG department of IISC: bs-ug.iisc.ac.in. The only eligibility criterias are to successfully pass class 12 examinations from a recognised board and to clear the cutoff of any of the 4 exams mentioned above in your category. Applications for the program are to filled at the official webiste in april-may every year. If you clear the cutoff then the institute will reach you on your official email-ID with a provisional offer letter and you will be invited for an in-person counselling session to the Bangalore campus in June. There are 3 rounds of counselling, and at the in person counselling you are given all the information about the program, fees and future prospects.

Course Curriculum Overview:

For someone who wants to give IIT-JAM. The cirruculum is not up to the mark . There are many things that one needs ro study on their own when it comes to biotechnology. Exams are taken after 3 months or so with tests in between. They have his ritual if I must say of asking students to summarise the last day's lecture.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I had a keen interest in Music and everything else revolving around it. And because of that I had self taught myself a couple of things regarding this field and that sparked an interest in me. And that ultimately lead to me picking this course. Everything on the curriculum aligned with what I either knew from the get go or things that I was keen to study about. They could definitely make the course way better if they made it more practical than theoretical. The frequency of exams is actually fine and not that tiresome.

Placement Experience:

The placements take place at the end of bsc and MSC, it happens over a span of week where students have to show case their work done for given time period, based on their work different various firms will consider hiring them on their team. The companies visiting are Tata, Harman, foley designs, Daimler, hai etc. The highest package offered is 24lakh pa, and almost 100% students get placed. My plans after getting the degree is joining a firm and getting experience and then pursuing masters.

Placement Experience:

There are placements in the campus. Placements are for the 8th sem students of B.Sc.B.Ed. and B.A.B.Ed. and for 12 th sem students of M.Sc.Ed. and 4th sem for B.Ed. and M.Ed. students. Around 25-30 schools come for placements and they offer around 40000-45000 for TGT and 45000-50000 for PGT. Most of the 12th sem students take placements and even B.Ed. and M.Ed. students take placements. But 8th sem students go for higher studies. I am planning for doing my masters after getting the degree.

Placement Experience:

Most of the students after completing four years, continue to stay here to get Masters degree after one more year and pursue PhD from world renowned institutions. Very few people (<7/100) per batch will sit for campus placements and most of them will be selected with a good annual package of 30000 at an average. Some students, mostly Physocs majors can give government exams like ICRB, GATE to join ISRO and BARC as scientists
