My wholesome college experience

  • Mess is a little less spicier even though it is diverse.

Course Curriculum Overview :

My course is B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar. Duration is 4 years. This is my Bachelor degree. I choose this field because I'm interested in software world and want to work in it and this course helps me get into this and build my career in it. The curriculum is very well designed, which is layered in such a way, that a new joiner can go through each step by step. It provides all the resources like books, computers, assignments, labs and applications. This really helps us in getting into real world applications like software, Machine learning and AI, etc. Improvements can be done by giving more internships from the start of the first year which helps us understand what's gonna be further. The college provides internships and placements which are crucial for my career and the faculty is very good. Exams are conducted each semester twice. One is midsem and the other endsem. They make us get along with the subject well and compete with our peers.

Internships Opportunities :

Internships are done in the summer after 3rd year 2nd semester. We are given internships by taking interviews and conducting tests. Companies like Barclay's, skan, delloitte, jsw, infosys, etc. Stipend is around 1lakh for CSE students. Again, it depends on students level and performance in interviews and exams conducted by them. I haven't done internship yet but I will get the opportunity next year.

Placement Experience :

The campus provides placements and internship opportunities for us, which helps a lot for us in building our career. Internships usually are after 3rd year 2nd semester and placements are after 4th year 2nd semester. Many companies like Barclays, JSW, Adani, Delloitte, Infosys, etc. For CSE, the average package is 30LPA. And this avg package is growing yearly. In CSE department, almost 99% students are placed. My plan after my degree is to work in a good company. I feel the campus makes sure to give good opportunities for us.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Well, the overall fees for one sem is 1.5 Lakhs which includes tuition fee, hostel, mess and all. Therefore for one year, it is 3 Lakhs and for four years it is almost 12Lakhs. For each sem, 1 lakh is tuition fee and hostel and other charges are 50,000. All the IIT's have similar fee structure. But if you belong to Sc/St/Pwd category, you need not pay tuition fee. The college also provides scholarships from various forms like alumni or any funding. It also gives educational loan with interest depending on the parental income. If we did any role as T.A, we will be given stipend. Considering all the charges and the course the college offers, I think it is reasonable and it would be helpful if they reduce few charges.

Campus Life :

We have amalthea and blithchron as technical and cultural summits. It happens every year once which we volunteer in them. There are various clubs both cultural and technical. These are very useful for students who are interested in a particular field. They conduct workshops and different competitions which help in our academic growth. We have a vast sports complex with world class facilities which we can use it anytime in the daytime and play any sport. Overall student life is very diverse and very helpful.

Hostel Facilities :

My hostel is a girls hostel called Chimair, which is within the campus. As we are from 2nd year, we have 2 person shared room. We have a separate mess for all the meals and snacks. The food quality is very good and the food is diverse, we have all types of dishes. Hostels are very neat and we have a pantry each floor where we get access to drinking water, oven and induction stove and a fridge. Registration for hostel is all done by the college. Washrooms are cleaned always and neat. Rooms have AC. Overall the hostel accommodation and mess is very good.

Admission :

My entrance exam was JEE Advanced, 2022. It is applicable for the candidates who completed 12th and qualified JEE Mains. For qualifying JEE Mains, we need to get more than 80 percentile for OBC. Then after we qualify it, we need to take JEE Advanced exam which usually is of 360 marks. Cutoff for OBC is around 70 marks. It depends on the specific year. Qualifying marks may vary. Then if we qualify the JEE Advanced, we can apply for IIT's through JOSAA counselling. We need to give our preferences in order and all the required certificates and registration fee. After wards, they will give our college according to our rank and preferences whichever we are eligible. All the dates for registration and all this process is done by NTA. Having reservation helps in getting good colleges. It gives more priority during counselling. JEE mains is quite easier than JEE Advanced. Upto now this process is very well structured and functioning. Hence this was helpful in getting me into this college.

As of last year, most of the students who applied for campus placement got placed but with an average ctc of rs 5 lakh/annum. The companies visited include Adani Port, Adani gas, Torrent Power, and other companies. The highest package was rs 15 lakh. Generally, most students from here prepare for entrances like a gate, toefl, cat, etc for admission in masters.
