- I loved the campus life at NIT Calicut. Its a lovely green campus. There are lot of areas for friends to hangout and relax after the classes.
- All the major state festivals are celebrated. This helps in building inclusivity among the students.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Electrical and Electronics is one of the main course in Engineering. The curriculum being followed was updated in 2017. Practical applications are a little behind. Some semesters are heavily loaded while some are free. The final year project helps a lot in understanding all the concepts of the course.The syllabus is perfect for cracking exams like GATE. Campus placements helps a lot of students to get placed. Top companies like Texas Instruments, Bosch, Adithya Birla etc comes for recruiting. In every semester, one mid semester and end semester exam will be conducted. Internal marking is done through tutorials, mcqs, assignments or projects. The examinations are intermediate.
Internships Opportunities :
Third year students are provided internships during summer break. Top companies like Oracle, PnG select the students and alos provide them full time placement based on their performance. Stipends can be high as 1.5 lakh per month.
Placement Experience :
Students can apply for internships in the third year. Campus placement is provided for final year students. Several top companies both for software and core job opportunites approach for recruitments. For core, companies like Texas Instruments, Bosch, LnT, Bajaj etc comes for placement. Several software companies like Oracle, Accenture, Atlassian etc also comes. Highest package for 2023 was 47 LPA for UG. Average was around 14 LPA. In 2023, more than 80% of the students got placed.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Tuition fee for general category with annual income above 5LPA is around 65000 per semester. In addition to this is the hostel and mess fee which comes around 6000 per month. However various fee structures are provided based on annual income and reservation categories. Also both state and central government provide a lot of scholarships for academically bright students. E Grantz is also available.
Campus Life :
National Institute of Technology conducts Ragam,the cultural fest and Tathva,the technical fest every year.These events are conducted on a large scale with participants from all over the country. These events are almost fully conducted by the students. The Central Library also has a wide range of books and journals on all topics. Fictions are also available.The library provides a study room for students to engage in academic discussions. The classrooms are well equiped with projectors in every classroom.The labs provide all the required equipments but most labs have space constraints.The hostels are well maintained.The mess and the canteen provides decent food. Campus wifi is available for all students. The Central Computer Centre is fully air conditioned and students can access the systems here at any time. Several clubs,hometeams and sport teams are run.The hometeams participate in several competitions and win awards.The sports team also wins medals at interNIT competitions.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostels are well maintained. First year UG students are provided 4-5 sharing room. Second and third year UG students are provided double sharing rooms and final years are provided single rooms. Wifi is available in the hostels. Common rooms with recreational activities like carroms and table tennis are provided. Buses are provided from hostel to campus. Night messes are available for late night cravings. The mess foods are decent. Variety of dishes are provided. Different messes are available like north,south etc. The mess bill is fair. The registration for hostels can be done at the time of admission.
Admission :
Admission process to NIT Calicut was fully online. Admission is based on JEE Mains rank. Through JOSSA counseling, we apply for different IITs and NITSs we choose and based on the rank, one can get admission.Each year the cutoff for different courses vary. JEE Mains is conducted 2 times a year, in January and April. The best of both is considered for ranking. It would have been better if JOSAA provided different choice list for NITs and IITs.
