A walk through the thick and thins of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology

Dislikes

  • The number of exams and test that are conducted can be hectic sometimes and you feel you do not have time for yourself.

Course Curriculum Overview :

As I have completed my BBA and I didn't want to opt for any jobs soon so I choose this career to sharpen my area of expertise so that if I get placed in any company then I can use my knowledge and the values that I have had in me through this course. The faculties were all doctorates and were all pursing their post-doctoral program or fellowship. The exams were held on every six months but before that, there were quizzes of 10 marks which had multiple choice questions and sessionals which had descriptive type and multiple choice questions. It was really hard to get through if you could not have a thorough knowledge of your subject and your understanding power must also be incredible so that you can write the answers thoughtfully. The faculty students ratio was 1:3

Internships Opportunities :

The internship opportunities that are available with the college can be from the field you are studying I'm and for MBA's and BBA's you can work as an intern in the banking sector, financial sector, pharma companies or any other companies which employes Human resources managers. The stipend depends upon the parent company and if you get a stipend you are eligible for 4-5000 a month and some pay on daily basis which can bear the travel and food expenses. The project I had done was to understand the role of Human resources in the hydro electric power station of Sikkim. And from that I learned many things and the ergonomic structure that is followed when you work the same job Daily. The outcome where that they follow ergonomic while designing their tables and their workstation and they are ready to welcome whatever suggestions or recommendations that is provided by observing them in due course of time.

Placement Experience :

The students who are in the final semesters can opt for placement in the campus and if they wish to go for off-campus placement then also they are allowed. The companies that visit the university for placement are usually Dell, Microsoft, HDFC bank, Axis bank, ICICI bank, Sibin Ventures and other pharma companies where they place the students in the position as managers, assistant managers, engineers in different fields like electrical, mechanical, computer etc. The offers usually made range from 3lakhs PA to 15lakhs PA. The highest package received so far is 15 lakhs pa and the average can go from 5-8 lakhs pa. And the profiles they offer are engineers or managers in middle-level positions. The percentage of students getting placed can be 60-70%. After I get the degree I planned to opt for a reputable job and if not then I can continue for further studies and give my time and effort in sharpening my knowledge base.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee normally is reasonable if you got a scholarship from the doctor if you belong to bpl family then you were given a huge discount the fee structure doesn't change as often and once the fee structure is finalized it gets implemented upto 10-12 years and the scholarship which I got was from the government where I had to pay only half the amount prescribed on the fee brochure. If you are admitted by qualifying for the CET then also a chance of fee deduction or discount is there.

Campus Life :

The annual fest was held department wise and the department of management hosted the fest named Athena the tech fest that included a variety of other programs was known as Kalrav which was conducted in the month of February. The university has a well-equipped library with a variety of books for different subjects written by different authors and the classroom had an overhead projector in which the lessons were being taught. The sports and extra activities conducted were both culture fest and sports meet where students from other universities also participated. The students usually participated in the nukkad natak where they use to conduct cleanliness drives, bicycle runs and other marathons where both the faculties and students used to participate.

Admission :

The admission process was quite tough as you have to first face the group discussion round and after that only you can qualify for the personal interview rounds. The application form can be found on the website of the university or you can take any reference of faculties or known person for help. The classroom was equipped with a projector base and all classes was taken on that projector the ambience was also students friendly

Interview Experience :

The first step was to go for a group discussion with 4 other students where you were expected to give out your best possible so that you secure a place for yourself in the university course. After clearing the group discussion you proceeded for a personal interview round where the interviewer ask you questions regarding your family background, where did you learn about the university, the basic criteria in terms of physical and mental well-being of yours and the courses you wish to get admitted to. After clearing the personal interview you will be intimated about the results in your mail and if you got through you are supposed to proceed with the fee payments and other necessary documentation. I first went through the website to check for the types of exams and I prepared for it through Google and other websites. The topic of group discussion that was provided was "Every cloud has its silver lining". And in the interview questions related to my family background and my education ask.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active and well equipped to bring recruiters from diverse group of organisations. The pre final and final year students are allowed to sit for interview. The highlight this year for me was Mercedes Benz hiring a student from Mechanical Department giving a very high package. A good chunk of people get placed every year. I am also looking forward to placement opportunities on campus, I believe there'll be enough opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen this course because this course can help me learn both the coding and electronics part. Faculties are well qualified but sometimes they are not able to explain the things and sometimes they also avoid our doubt if we chok in the middle. We appear for three term exam in every 2 months. Some subjects are very difficult to pass because we are unable to understand them in class

Placement Experience:

After 5th semester, the college has on-campus internship options and after during 7th semester, you will be eligible to sit for campus placements. Many companies come for campus placement including IBM, NVIDIA, Deloitte, etc. PLacements for CSE, ECE, and EEE are very good. In 2023 highest placement was from EEE of 44 lakhs from NVIDIA. In Mechanical most of the students get PPO. For Civil, very least options are available. Usually, 80% of students get placed every year.

Placement Experience:

Several companies come for campus placement. Third years are elligible for summer internships and fourth years can get placement + Internship offer for the last semester internship. The college provides us with pre-placement training which is very helpful which I'm currently undergoing. The placement record of the college has been satisfactory till now. We also get sessions from alumnus who tell us their experience and guide us through their experience. The placement drives can be improved hope for more companies and more opportunities to be given to every students.
