Remarks :

The college is situated in a small city, sometimes if you want to go to a movie or something then you might have to travel 20km or something, otherwise, if you love traveling and visiting new places, this place is heaven. Saturday and Sunday are off and you can visit many hill stations and come back within 2 days.

Entrance Preview :

I took admission in this course via JEE-2012. During that time the branch closed at around 4500 ranks. People who want to study basic sciences can opt for geology and IIT Roorkee is a very well known college offering this course. Another reason for choosing this college was its proximity to several hill stations and other tourist spots.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is matching to that taught to the B.Tech students during the first year. Thereafter the courses of geology are introduced from the basic level and are taken to the advanced level by the fourth year. The fifth-year is mainly for doing the dissertation work. During this time one can pursue research on any topic of interest and prepare a thesis to present during the final evaluation.

Internships Opportunities :

The college provides very good internship opportunities to its students and also the students from other colleges. A monthly stipend of 8000 per month is provided to students under the Summer Undergraduate Research Award for 2 months to carry out research work during the summer holidays. Added to this there are several grants which are provided to students going for any foreign internships to help them cover their expenditure of stay and flight tickets.

Placement Experience :

Placement at IIT Roorkee is fairly good. More than 350 companies visited during the last placement season. The students get a chance to explore many fields and decide their career path accordingly. These companies include some major financial institutions, trading companies, big data analytics, software, education sectors, etc.

College Events :

At the Institute level, there are two major events, the technical festival - Cognizance and the cultural festival -Thomso. Both the events are well recognized and many famous personalities have performed during the festivals in past time. Colleges from all over India participate in the events. Added to this the department organizes many events like cultural night, sports matches (football, cricket, etc) and some paper/poster presentation competition on regular basis.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fees is the same as other courses at IITs for the initial four years (about 1 lakh per semester). During the fifth year, it's about half of this amount and can be paid by the MHRD scholarship given to the students on clearing the GATE examination during the 4th year. Given the brand name of IIT and the many opportunities it brings along, the fees is worth it totally. Education these days is quite costly but at this Institute the collected amount is used for the betterment of students and faculty only.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Students are awarded Merit cum Means scholarships for the people whose patent's annual income is below the threshold (4.5 lakh probably). In this scheme, the tuition fees is refunded to the students selected for the scholarship. Also, there are 2 banks - SBI and PNB which easily provide education loans very easily and interest rates are lower than the usual by ~1%

Hostel Facilities :

The hostels are very nice. Many hostels have been newly constructed and are equipped with modern facilities live emergency generators, lifts, water purifiers, etc. Each hostel has a TV room where students may go and enjoy the live telecast of various tournaments or matches. Added to this, some hostels have small clubs which are equipped with a pool, snooker, etc. The mess food is hygienic and healthy. I can not comment on the taste as it varies from person to person.

External Expense : Rs.2000 - Rs.4000

Alumni/Alumna :

To keep in touch with its passed out students, the institute has an alumni relation cell. This cell contacts the seniors and informs them about the activities and the progress of the Institute. The seniors is very nice and quite helpful.

Exam Structure :

The curriculum is designed to provide students sufficient time for self-study and learning. The classes are conducted in one half and lab and other activities during the other half (generally). The labs are well equipped and sufficient resources are available if someone is eager to learn. The daily routine is quite relaxed and one gets plenty of time to pursue any hobby or take part in sports.

Admission :

One is eligible to fill the JEE exam during or after passing class 12. There are only two attempts allowed as mentioned in the above statement. The forms are available from October-November and the exam is generally conducted in April after the board exams. There are two levels of exam - JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. One has to clear the JEE-Advanced level to get admission in an IIT.

Faculty :

Every faculty of IIT is very well-qualified, and are hired only after completion of Ph.D. from reputed institutes. They take keen interest in teaching and are open to suggestions to improve the understandings of students. Tests are conducted regularly to access the overall learning curve of the class and the method of teachings is modified accordingly.

Honest review on GBPUAT

Placement Experience:

Eligibility for Placement is semester 7 and 8 which is 4th year. A number of companies visit the campus including HCL foundation, ICICI Bank, Mother Dairy, Godrej agrovet Ltd. Etc. I myself am thinking of going into research field so i'll have to do further studies in the same field.

The placement shows quantity but not quality, in my batch 60-70% students were placed with a highest package of 5lakh per annum and minimum package of 2.4 lakh. As per fees of college the average package seems low.

This college has quite good placements for CS students. The average package of the college is 7 lpa which is quite decent. Last year the highest package offered was of 68 lpa at Palo Alto. Remarks:

I chose this college women institute of technology which is in Dehradun because it is the only government College which is for girls and it gives them technical knowledge. The college is funded by many government schemes which are very beneficial for us. We have different seminars winners from course in other things also to increase our soft skills as well as other skills. Hair in my 4 year experience I have learnt a lot a lot of things. We get free coaching for MTech i.e GATE classes and other employability training programs and that too free of cost.
