Remarks :
Not many people think of pursuing a master's in design from an IIT but they are unaware of the fact that an IIT has the best faculty for any course and is the best place for future opportunities. The admission criteria for M.Des is the score obtained in the CEED exam and one must have at least 55% in graduation. Admission fee is Rs.150. My application form was submitted online along with the admission fee.
Course Curriculum Overview :
There are in total four semesters. The main focus is on the projects and thesis submission since the courses involve most of the practical work. There are three specializations in which a student gets to choose. I found User Experience and Interaction design to be interesting. Since the students are less in a batch, teaching methods adopted by the professors prove to be more efficient than ever.
Placement Experience :
There are less but some pretty good opportunities available for the students of M.Des here at IIT. Every year placement percentage is 100. Most of the batch mates opted to go outside India for the job since there are much better opportunities available there. In general, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Tres Vista, Ford, GAIL Limited, IBM, Sapient, Reckitt Benckiser, Indiamart, HDFC Bank, Deloitte, Cognizant Technology Services were the major participants.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Ample of financial assistance is available for the students so that their studies don't get affected. The cost to study is Rs. 1.19 lakhs and this cost include everything. Some of the scholarships are: Merit scholarship, A Shrimati Madhuri Dubey Scholarship, Sports scholarship and External scholarship. I didn't apply for any of the above nor availed a bank loan to cover the educational finances.
Campus Life :
My two years here at IIT Kanpur campus went well. I learned how to balance between enjoyment and study. Science and Tech fest of the college was always a big hit of the year as it attracted thousands of participants breaking up their barriers of thinking in the field of science. Clubs are very limited in number so one doesn't get that much social interaction. Canteens were the hub of gossips and social meetings.
