Entrance Preview :
IIT -Joint Entrance Exam, 2012, Rank 2732, 245 marks. Opted for the college because of the good alumni network, good city, and exposure.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course structure is good. Fairly flexible with the freedom to take sufficient electives as per interest, time availability, and subject to minimum CPI requirements. The minor degree can also be done in a field different from your major. There is also a management and design school on campus, so fair variety of courses available to choose from.
Internships Opportunities :
There are summer and in-sem research internships available, I think the program is called SURP ( Summer Undergraduate Research Program).
Placement Experience :
Excellent, salary-wise. Average package: 8lakh per annum. Lowest about 3-4 lakh per anum. Highest: 35 lakh per annum for India and goes into high tens of lakhs for out of India Postings. Kinds of Job profiles: Most are programming and IT roles ( 80 %), others are consultants, Finance, and analysts. Most Big companies visit and recently a lot of startups also.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Rs 2 lakh per annum for the general category. The government has decided to waive in full the annual fees for students from SC/ST, differently-abled, and economically weaker sections. Students from families with an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh will be able to study in the IITs for free.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Many scholarships. Major is the Merit-cum-means. Some are also purely merit-based. Mails keep students updated about possible scholarships.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel fee: Rs. 15000 per semester ( This was included in the 2 LPA mentioned above), Mess Fee: Rs. 15000 per semester. Better than most College Messes, excluding some extremely expensive private colleges. A variety of food is served including bread butter and eggs for all breakfasts and snacks.
Alumni/Alumna :
As I stated earlier, one of the major reasons for joining is the alumni network and student community. Alumni are present in most big companies and seniors share most of the relevant information for careers and extracurricular activities. That said, the students are fairly biased to conventional career choices like Finance, banking, consultancy, and engineering.
Admission :
3 rounds of online merit-based counseling (admission rounds). I had to fill online a list of the colleges and field combination choices in decreasing order of preference. The highest possible combination was allotted to me as per merit among other students.
Faculty :
Faculty are all with a Ph. D.s, a lot from renowned colleges of India and abroad. Most faculty are friendly and supportive. Each faculty has teaching as well as a research load. Most focus on research more, but also do justice to teaching. Most faculty have industry contacts but generally, avoid connecting student job candidates to the professional communities. But there is a good student placement cell to address this issue.
