My experience with IHM Bangalore

Remarks :

I chose to join IHM Bangalore because it's one of the top government hotel management college in India. The admission to this college happens through NCHM JEE which is conducted in April every year and based on your rank you are allotted your college, I would like to recommend IHM Bangalore over other IHM's because of the great placements and opportunity available in Bangalore city for hospitality students but there are few cons of the college as well like the campus is small and infrastructure in average but great college faculty and placements do compensate for that. Overall it's a great college for budding hoteliers and retailers.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose to do my bachelors in hospitality and hotel administration because I was passionate to join the hotel industry. The student-faculty ratio is around 30 students per teacher. Teachers in IHM Bangalore are all industry experienced and done their MSc. The pattern of the exam is in semester pattern where midterm accounts for 30% marks and end terms 70% marks. It's fairly easy to pass exams as hotel management is more about practical and not theory. Theory exams are easy, practicals are moderately difficult.

Internships Opportunities :

During our second year, we have to do an internship of 4 months in a 5-star hotel in all the department. it's our one semester dedicated to the internship. for an internship, our college provides opportunities in all hotel companies, in all cities of India as you can do your internship from any city and hotel chain of your choice. All students do their internship from top hotel brands like Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, ITC, Oberoi etc. The stipend provided is around 1200 to 8000 per month depending upon the hotel chain. Marriott, Novotel and Ritz Carlton pay 5000+.

Placement Experience :

From the 5th semester (3rd year) onwards campus placement starts wherein hotels and retail companies visit our college for recruitment. All major national and international hotel chain visit our college like Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, Itc, Taj, Oberoi etc. Retail companies like Starbucks, McDonald, pantaloons etc, also visit the retail sector. Our college provides 100% placement for all eligible candidates. the package depends upon what hotel program you crack like management trainee, operational trainee or associate. The lowest package is 15000 per month and the highest package is 4.5 lakhs pa.

Fees and Financial Aid :

The fee hike policy is 10% per year, the tuition fee is around 3.5 to 4 lakhs for 3 years. There is no fee compensation but or scholarship available but you do get a semester fee waiver if you get top ranks in NCHM end term exams.

Campus Life :

There is a very les fest in college due to the small campus but the fest and sports compition do happen in big grounds taken on lease for the event. There are thousands of books available in the college library for all the subjects. Classrooms and practical labs are equipped with good infrastructure. Sports competition do happen once a year, there are 4 clubs in our college, faces for the front office, bristomer for f&b service, gharaunda for housekeeping and gourmet marshals for the kitchen department.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel is 8 km away from college and we travel by metro. It's a very huge hostel with all amenities like a small playground, garden, gym only for men, separate washroom and toilet on each floor of adequate size. Both hot and cold water is available. Girls and boys hostel is separate. The hostel is in a good residential area with access to local markets, stationery shops and other facilities.

From 7th to 8th semester students become eligible for campus placement and various types big hotel brands, airlines, cruiselines and big companies visit to recruit or give placements to students and average offers are made around 600000 lakhs per annum. Collage provides 100% placement to students and we go for intership twice, once in 3rd semester and second in 8th semester. we can choose whereever we want to do our intership even we can apply for abroad interships. After I complete my degree I am planning to get a job in any international brand or cruiselines then after 2-3 years of experience I will do complete my masters then I will settle down with a nice job in India.
