SMIT- A BANE TO STUDENTS

Remarks :

I gave Manipal Entrance Test as I was amazed by the quality of education, internship, and placements in companies in India and abroad, the environment around campus, state of the art infrastructure and I always wanted to join a college in and around hills. SMIT is a boon to anyone and everyone who wants to do Engineering, Management Studies, and Basic Science courses along with that a nature admirer. So, I gave MET online in the month of August 2020 (delayed due to the COVID situation), got the result, had to fill a form for online counseling where we had to fill our preferences for courses, had the online counseling and via automated structure got myself admitted in Electronics and Communication course in SMIT and classes started from 17th October.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I am a student of ECE, Engineering. ECE is one of the most challenging subjects and what is life without electronics. Today the world revolves around electronics devices, types of equipment for communication like transmitter, antennas, etc. ECE also deals with the designing and maintenance of satellites, nanotechnology, and other processors. SMIT faculty are both knowledgeable and kind. They are highly qualified Ph.D. scholars with top-notch teaching quality. Class timings are from 9 AM TO 5 PM, including lab timings which are of 3 hours. To earn a degree every student has to earn the required number of credit scores. Exam pattern is divided into 2 parts internals and externals. Internals are conducted in two phases computing 50 marks and externals of 50 marks.

Internships Opportunities :

AIESTE helps students get internships offers by companies and institutes from India and abroad. The stipend ranges from 7000 INR to 60000 INR. Students can do internships under guides, assistance also in research and development departments.

Placement Experience :

From the 7th semester, students become eligible for campus placements. A variety of companies come for placements like Microsoft, Wipro, Dell, Bosch, Delloite, etc. The highest package offered is 22 lakhs per annum and the average is 6 lakh per annum. 95% of students get placed via on-campus placements. After getting the degree, my personal plans are to join the armed forces and serve our nation.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The cost of engineering is 2.70 lac per annum (only tuition study fees). There is a merit-based system where scholarships are offered to students. On average over 60 students are able to avail these scholarships. On-campus internships are provided. IAESTE helps students get internships abroad too with a stipend ranging from 7000 INR to 60000 INR. Campus placements are overall at the rate of 95% with companies hiring by Microsoft, Dell, Wipro, etc.

Campus Life :

The campus has first-class laboratories, workshops, and hands-on learning for a better learning experience. The library is a 3500 sq m carpet area with a storied building with a seating capacity of 541 users at a time. It has a rich collection of books and journals for students of all branches of engineering, basic sciences, and management. Two great events happen in SMIT, Tech Adrishta, and KAALRAV, generally in the month of January - March. There are many clubs, INNOVISION for the cultural club, AI club artificial intelligence club, EDGE the gaming club, among others. University has the MARENA sports complex, and there is a range of indoor and outdoor sports which students can play in hilly terrains, like football, badminton, squash, cricket, tennis, swimming, etc.

Hostel Facilities :

Rooms are given on distance-based criteria to students with an affordable double sharing system. The mess food menu is based on North Indian, Bengali, and northeastern cuisine. The hostel is a state-of-the-art infrastructure maintained by Manipal Group.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active and well equipped to bring recruiters from diverse group of organisations. The pre final and final year students are allowed to sit for interview. The highlight this year for me was Mercedes Benz hiring a student from Mechanical Department giving a very high package. A good chunk of people get placed every year. I am also looking forward to placement opportunities on campus, I believe there'll be enough opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen this course because this course can help me learn both the coding and electronics part. Faculties are well qualified but sometimes they are not able to explain the things and sometimes they also avoid our doubt if we chok in the middle. We appear for three term exam in every 2 months. Some subjects are very difficult to pass because we are unable to understand them in class

Placement Experience:

After 5th semester, the college has on-campus internship options and after during 7th semester, you will be eligible to sit for campus placements. Many companies come for campus placement including IBM, NVIDIA, Deloitte, etc. PLacements for CSE, ECE, and EEE are very good. In 2023 highest placement was from EEE of 44 lakhs from NVIDIA. In Mechanical most of the students get PPO. For Civil, very least options are available. Usually, 80% of students get placed every year.

Placement Experience:

Several companies come for campus placement. Third years are elligible for summer internships and fourth years can get placement + Internship offer for the last semester internship. The college provides us with pre-placement training which is very helpful which I'm currently undergoing. The placement record of the college has been satisfactory till now. We also get sessions from alumnus who tell us their experience and guide us through their experience. The placement drives can be improved hope for more companies and more opportunities to be given to every students.
