Remarks :
A good place for learning in a beautiful environment. World class amenities from smart class, numerous labs, gyms, sauna bath, sports complex. The admission process includes a university entrance test or a JEE rank.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Electronics and Communication is a booming industry and a very interesting one. Being a 90’s kid having witnessed the revolution of electronics and communication, this particular course interested me the most. The ECE faculty is very professional as well as helpful not just in terms of education but also the overall well being of the students. Three years in this department, I’ve come across every faculty member and whether they’ve taught me or not, we all shared a family like bond. My HoD, Dr Bera was one of the most interesting individuals I’ve ever come across. He was so fascinated with 5G research and IoT that it actually helped me a lot in my masters. He gave us extra classes and knowledge which was outside the courses and that was really nice of him. The exams are difficult. There is no denying it but the difficulty and the easy questions are well prepared. Anyone can score at least 5 but it requires a lot of hard work and study to achieve very good Marks
Internships Opportunities :
The college offers internship opportunities too. I got to intern for the airport authority of India, Kolkata and it helped me a lot. It was a nice experience. A total of 5 students from my department were accepted for the communication, navigation and surveillance training in AAI.
Placement Experience :
Campus placement starts from 3rd year. Students start preparing from initial years only. We are also given some coaching in the college during Sundays and that’s very helpful. Most of my friends got placed in good companies. The highest package was 12-15 LPA. And the average package is 6 LPA. 95% placements.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I think the cost of the study was around 1-2Lpa. I didn’t sit for the placement drive on campus but most of my friends were placed in good companies like Bosch, Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Dell, Ericsson etc.
Campus Life :
The campus life is a lifetime experience. Students from various part of India come to SMIT and that actually makes it very vibrant. The annual fest, Kaalrav is the one to look out for as it is the biggest cultural fest of the northeast. People from various colleges gather to perform and win titles. Famous bands, musicians, comedians grace the stages. The library is a huge one .it is two-storey And has all the amenities like room for group studies, single study etc. They also have audiobooks and journals. There are various social groups, from dance groups to art groups. The most famous ones are Udaan, TEDX SMIT, etc
Hostel Facilities :
The rooms are very clean and big. They are two sharing rooms and I think one of the best hostels. The food menu is varied. You get North Indian as well as South Indian dishes. They are made in full hygiene, never had a bad experience at the mess You get snacks like burgers, pizza, calzone pockets, samosa’s, what else would one want? The locality outside is nice but the experience inside the campus is far better than staying in a PG.
Interview Experience :
We had an entrance test. Physics , Maths and English It was an MCQ test With negative marking. It was basically the class 12 syllabus. Preparation was the same as for board exams because the entrance was only after our board exams so the preparation was similar and that was helpful.
