Remarks

I had always heard about St Stephen's College and dreamt of becoming a part of the English department there. My ambition is to become a filmmaker. So i thought getting to read and learn about literature in depth would help me draft good stories for my films. The one thing that I love about this college is the number of societies they have. They have around 40+ societies. The best part is that all the societies are run by students and the college doesn't play any role in the functioning of any of these societies.

Course Curriculum Overview

We never get our syllabus on time. It is not the fault of the college. It's the fault of the University. The syllabus is quite interesting. I love lectures by Prof. Smita Gandotra. She's so knowledgeable and extremely intelligent.

Placement Experience

4

A lot of companies visit our college every year for campus recruitment. Since my course is English Hons I don't think a lot of students opt to work just after graduation without doing a post-graduation. But I know for sure that the minimum salary package offered is above 80000.

College Events

4.5

Like I said, there are a lot of societies in the college. Each society conducts a number of fests and events every year. There societies for different states of India too. So each of these societies conduct cultural fests. Onam, which is one of the biggest events in our college, is conducted by The Malayalam Literary Society. All these fests are very much inclusive.

Campus Life

Our college has a gym which was renovated recently. Our library and college buildings are quite old. To be honest the roof of the library fell down last year and the library has been under construction ever since. The same happened with one of the residence blocks too. The Wifi connectivity is good enough.

Hostel Facilities

It is a Herculean task getting hostel/residence in our college. There are 3 blocks for girls and 3 blocks for boys. The number of residents that these blocks can accommodate is 400. So the college gives residence to only a limited number of students. 50% of the seats are reserved for Christian students and a specific percentage of seats are reserved for boys and vice versa. The college gives residence to students based on merit, attendance, and a separate interview for residence. In the first year, students are supposed to share their rooms. There will be a maximum of 2 people in each room. But there is a chance you'll get a single room in your second year. Hostel rooms are really really old and the washrooms are poorly maintained. The rooms are spacious enough.

Since it is open learning university..they couldn't give us time.. because the class also got started 1 month before exam...and teachers had to finish...the syllabus. But they don't really care about us. And syllabus I think is okay .. in Commerce. It is updated.

Placement Experience:

Campus placement is done in the 3rd year. The highest PPO given is 24,00,000 to auditing and taxation departments. Average package is about ?15,00,000 to ?18,00,000. Companies like Eay, KPMG and more visit our college for placement. Most students under the commerce department get offered internships. Other than this, the placement cell also actively keeps sending internship opportunities for students to enhance their profiles. I am an English honours student l, thus there is no placement option for me directly unless I take up options from the P-Cell. I have already interned at EY India, Gurgaon, as a forensics and risk management specialist( throigh personal referral). My knowledge (attained from DCAC) of research, report and article writing were used adequately.

Placement Experience:

There was no such provision of jobs or fixed placements however there was a placement cell which was quite active and hence there were opportunities for placements by contacting the cell and placement fairs were also organised that were open for all, but not many opportunities were given. The companies that took candidates were economic times, TOI etc paying a very basic fresher stipend of 10-15k. Very few students actually got to know about these placement drives hence the placements weren't great also not many companies came on campus.
