Remarks :
Due to my inclination towards Delhi University, I only wanted to get admitted ina DU college, since DU has only 6 colleges offering honours in journalism for graduation, my 12th marks allowed me to opt for 2-3 colleges including IHE, Maharaja Agrasen and Delhi school of journalism, I choose Bharati because it had a hostel, unlike other colleges. The fees are quite less and the quality of various student societies is also good. The college does have a decent infrastructure but it is relatively small due to being an all girl's college in the heart of Janakpuri, Delhi. While I graduated, some buildings were under construction including the auditorium and extra hostels, but the current facilities were adequate for the number of students on the campus.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is quite wholesome but since the year when I joined was the first year when the Journalism course started in this college, there was lack of proper infrastructure like media labs, production system etc, however, the faculty were experts from the field of journalism and they tried to their fullest to get the bare minimum equipment in place such as DSLRs etc. We were a class of 34 students taught by 3 faculties excluding generic elective. The teachers were adequately experienced and had the required expertise to deliver their lessons. Exams were conducted semester wise i.e after every 6 months and these were taken by the University of Delhi, so the difficulty level was decent, and we did not hear any student getting any backs throughout my graduation. The final marks were a combination of semester-end examination result, plus attendance marks and marks for practicals and class evaluation.
Internships Opportunities :
Internship opportunities were circulated in college Whatsapp group and via placement drives but there was a lack of student participation and companies coming on campus. There were some placements from TOI and economic times for different roles via a small test and interview but other than that, I really did not hear ever about any placements.
Placement Experience :
There was no such provision of jobs or fixed placements however there was a placement cell which was quite active and hence there were opportunities for placements by contacting the cell and placement fairs were also organised that were open for all, but not many opportunities were given. The companies that took candidates were economic times, TOI etc paying a very basic fresher stipend of 10-15k. Very few students actually got to know about these placement drives hence the placements weren't great also not many companies came on campus.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Since Bharati College runs within Delhi University, the fees are quite low, I finished my graduation under 30k and the hostel charges are also moderate. The cost to study for one year was approximately 10k+55k+30k course, hostel and mess total charges summing up to 95k for students who take hostel and 10k who don't opt for a hostel. There are no such scholarships in DU colleges since the fee structure is the bare minimum. There is no provision of campus jobs, there is a cell that looks after providing financial assistance to students with disabilities or low income group students on the basis of merit.
Campus Life :
The annual fest is called Abhivyakti, which takes place each year in Jan-Feb, there is no tech fest in the college. The college does have a library that is not too big but it suits the student needs almost fairly, but there is a need to increase the sitting area and the availability of newspapers or books since it is launching new courses. The classrooms have decent amenities, very few classrooms have AC facility and it sometimes becomes difficult in summers but other than that the amenities are adequate taking into consideration the fees taken from students. There is a hockey and football team (all girl's) and there are regular activities held, different fests are conducted by different departments and there are extracurricular societies each for dance, drama, speaking, placement, music, English and literary. There is an NSS and NCC group along with student cells, all societies are managed by students and get some grant from the college also, rest all is student-funded.
Hostel Facilities :
The year when I joined was the first operational year of the hostel hence there wasn't much for us, I stayed in the hostel for 2 years hence I can tell that nothing much changes throughout my graduation, students have to buy each item other than tables, chairs and beds (even curtains has to be bought by the students). There were no AC rooms or even rooms with cooler were not available, this was a fallout, since it gets very hot in summers, especially on top floors. The hostel had four floors and it had a capacity of 60-80 students. In the first year, the meal quality wasn't up to the mark, students often complained and after a year the existing tender was changed, the menu was fine but it wasn't followed diligently and the quality of food wasn't that great. Since the hostel was new and small, it could accommodate very few girls hence the hostel process was a little detailed, one could only apply for a hostel if they did not belong to delhi ncr, approx cost was 50k plus 3k PM for mess.
