Remarks :
The college management is like any other government-run body, but a little more responsive. We have student representatives to escalate major issues to the management. Sometimes even small office tasks like getting the signature of the dean or HOD for useless purposes are frustrating.
Entrance Preview :
JEE Advanced, rank 600, opted for this course because of the current trend in placements. So computer science was the way to go. And IIT is the best in this regard so it had to be an IIT
Course Curriculum Overview :
It is good, with all the main subjects in computing science including - data structures - operating systems - networks - discrete structures - assembler and compiler - architecture - etc and some courses of electronics too
Internships Opportunities :
All the major companies came in for internships including the likes of Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Adobe, Flipkart, Amazon, etc. The stipend ranged from 30k- 60k which I guess is very good. Hope the projects they offer on internship are equally good.
Placement Experience :
Placements are excellent here because it is an IIT and it has the best brains of the nation, so the companies want to hire as many as they can. For Computer Science students, the students are less and the vacancies are more.
College Events :
College celebrates two major festivals namely thomso and cognizance. Thomso is the cultural fest having various competitions and shows. Cognizance is the technical fest having those competitions and the bot wars. Students from colleges all over the north come into participate and some from Mumbai too.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee is around 70k per semester, which i guess is a little bit expensive considering it is a government college. Though scholarships are available for underprivileged students.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I know of scholarships which are given. MCM is given to students having a decent grade and whose parents' anual income is less than 4.8 lakhs.
Campus Life :
The campus life is great, all kinds of facilities are present, ranging from sports, dramatics, dance, singing, art, and whatnot. The gender ratio is pretty skewed as you would expect that from an IIT. There are pretty few girls in here so it is predominantly a boys college. Hostel parties are done only once a year. I haven't faced or known about any incidence of discrimination happening on this campus.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel facilities are quite decent here. The hostels are clean and water and waste disposal are proper. Though the rooms are a bit confused, i guess you would have to do with it. Normal rooms are alloted, no fancy stuff here. The mess food is decent too. You can have it and stay alive. Nonveg is offered twice a week which costs extra.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is pretty strong. The alumni are in constant touch with the alumni association established specifically for this purpose. Also, LinkedIn provides a way to get in touch with the alumni and they are pretty helpful. The seniors are superb, always ready to help and give you a treat.
Exam Structure :
The normal days are chilled out. In a semester of approx 4 months, there are 2 weeks which are hectic. One week of mid sem and one week of end sem. Other than that it is up to you, what you want to do with your day. Whether it is Gym, sports, coding, etc, people are engaged in all kinds of activities here.
Faculty :
The faculty here is the most learned and know the subjects in depth. However, the teaching style ranges from excellent (for most of the teachers) to average (some exceptions are always there). Learned alot from them and through the exams.
