Remarks :
IIT Guwahati is a relatively new institution in IIT fraternity but in the short span of time it has established itself as a premier institution. College management has played a big role in this progress. However it has suffered in the past due to its remote location in the North-East of India.
Entrance Preview :
IIT JEE, Rank 1440I chose this college due to my preference for electronics and communication as branch.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Course curriculum was meant to develop all round knowledge base in electronics and communication as well as electives in various domains. Like economics, psychology, sociology, drama and philosophy.We were also allowed to take electives from other departments of engineering as per our interest.
Internships Opportunities :
Companies like Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Sclumberger came for hiring students for internship. At that time stipend offered was around Rs 15,000 per month.
Placement Experience :
Placement opportunities are very good with more than 90% people getting placed. Companies like Sclumberger, Google, Microsoft, Deutche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Tata Motors, Cisco Systems, Cosmic Circuits and many more came for hiring. They offered pay package in the range of 5 Lac to 30 Lac.
College Events :
Techniche, Annual techno-management festival see participation from across India with around 5,000 participants. Alcheringa, Annual cultural festival see participation of more than 15,000 people and featuring important personalities of Indian talent. Manthan is the Annual inter-hostel competition.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
At that time we used to pay around 32,000 per year. This comes out to be approx 16,000 per semester. Apart from this mess bill was charged extra per month. However there were no charges for hostel stay.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
College offered merit cum means scholarship to students. It has also collaboration with many private sector organizations which offer scholarships to bright students.
Campus Life :
IIT Guwahati has a vibrant campus life with year round options for extracurricular in the form of sports, culturals, literary activities etc. Gender ratio is poor but tolerance to gender, ethnicity, race, religion and economic status is high. Hostel parties were frequent on occasions like birthdays, job placement etc.
Alumni/Alumna :
Alumni base of the institute is not as strong as other older institutions. However the existing alumni are very enthusiastic and supportive to everyone. Regular contacts are maintained by conducting frequent alumni meetings at various places.
Exam Structure :
Exams were spread out throughout the year. There were regular classes and lab sessions due to which weekdays were used to be hectic. However weekend were chilled out.
Faculty :
Faculty of the college was very young and dynamic. They encouraged innovation and promoted continous learning. Faculty was well qualified in their areas of expertise. They also encouraged extra-curricular activities among students.
