Student's Review On National Institute Of Technology - [NIT], South Sikkim

Remarks :

Because it is a nit. It is a deemed university. The National Institute of Technology Sikkim is a public engineering and research institution near the city of Ravangla in Sikkim, India,It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. It

Course Curriculum Overview :

Just any other engineering college, academic studies aren't of that importance (it's more pronounced if you are aspiring to be in IT industry). That being said, teachers are well qualified and administration also works regularly to amend the curriculum according to industry requirements. Also, as of now batch sizes aren't that big, teachers focus on students individually and it also benefits in placements

Placement Experience :

Placement is not that bad. Different companies visit our compus for placement like LnT, MacAfee etc. About internship our college provide but not to all, only toppers get it. The internships some time are stipend but not always

College Events :

Being located in lap of Himalayas, view is such a pleasure to mind. Sometimes it snowfalls during winter. Also during this season trekking is quiet common. Gender ratio is somewhat better than other NITs and people are comparatively more open minded here. Several college clubs keep on organising various events regularly.

Campus Life :

First negative point is that our institute does not have permanent campus. And second faculty and infrastructure is not that good. Lot of rains also in time of monsoon season. Our campus connectivity is also very bad, no nearby railway station or any airport

Hostel Facilities :

As NIT Sikkim is currently operating in temporary campus, so Hostel facility might not appear to be in par with other established NITs. Because this college is having limited infrastructure and provides only sharing rooms. Generally students live in triple sharing.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active and well equipped to bring recruiters from diverse group of organisations. The pre final and final year students are allowed to sit for interview. The highlight this year for me was Mercedes Benz hiring a student from Mechanical Department giving a very high package. A good chunk of people get placed every year. I am also looking forward to placement opportunities on campus, I believe there'll be enough opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen this course because this course can help me learn both the coding and electronics part. Faculties are well qualified but sometimes they are not able to explain the things and sometimes they also avoid our doubt if we chok in the middle. We appear for three term exam in every 2 months. Some subjects are very difficult to pass because we are unable to understand them in class

Placement Experience:

After 5th semester, the college has on-campus internship options and after during 7th semester, you will be eligible to sit for campus placements. Many companies come for campus placement including IBM, NVIDIA, Deloitte, etc. PLacements for CSE, ECE, and EEE are very good. In 2023 highest placement was from EEE of 44 lakhs from NVIDIA. In Mechanical most of the students get PPO. For Civil, very least options are available. Usually, 80% of students get placed every year.

Placement Experience:

Several companies come for campus placement. Third years are elligible for summer internships and fourth years can get placement + Internship offer for the last semester internship. The college provides us with pre-placement training which is very helpful which I'm currently undergoing. The placement record of the college has been satisfactory till now. We also get sessions from alumnus who tell us their experience and guide us through their experience. The placement drives can be improved hope for more companies and more opportunities to be given to every students.
