Remarks :
The college facilities is Average in my opinion. The faculty and academics and lab facilities are good. But every coin has two different sides. Being an off campus we are neglected by the main campus and don't get many facilities we are paying for.
Course Curriculum Overview :
In MSc there is four semester (2 odd and 2even).The course has Physical Oceanography, Chemical oceanography, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Environmental Impact Assessment, Marine Microbiology, Marine ecology, Physiology and etc. The lab facilities are very good so that we get both theoretical and practical experience.
Placement Experience :
There is no campus placement facility. But most of the seniors are doing PhD or working in different fields of Marine related institutes. People working as a project assistant in different institutes get the salary of about Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000 depending on the project. Also, PhD students are getting good jobs with a salary more than Rs. 5,00,00 per annum. It's one of the best institutes to learn marine biology. The internship is not compulsory but if anyobe wants they can do. Msc students get studentship of 1000rs per month.
College Events :
We celebrate our annual fest 'Anekragam' in March to April. Different types of cultural activities, Sports, Academic activities, Literature competition, Gun games are conducted each year. We divided ourselves in three teams. The winning team is awarded with trophy and certificates at the end of the fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure is average but it is quite expensive than the other central University of India. This year the fees has been increased. Now it is around 23000rs,3000rs, 13,000rs and 3000rs for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester respectively. I took admissiom in 2018 and paid 17900rs, 2135rs, 9400rs and 2000rs for the 1st,2nd, 3rd and 4th semester respectively.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
College provide studentship of 1000rs to Msc students and 8000rs to PhD students. Except that we are allowed to apply for other scholarships awarded by the Government of India. Some of the Research scholar get fellowship fro UGC, Rajiv Gandhi fellowship and Maulana Azad fellowships.
Campus Life :
The gender ratio is quite similar. The Andaman campus feels like Mini India as students from all over the country are studying here. We celebrate the festivals of all culture and religion. Various workshops are arranged in which students participate actively.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes I'm staying in hostel. The rooms are good except two three room which leak during rainy season. All of us are staying in hostel. If someone stays outside the rent is around 2k to 3k per month. In hostel the boys pay 900 Rs per year and the girls stay for free.
Alumni/Alumna :
Being in a off campus we have not get any aluminis meet till now. But some seniors are doing PhD here. They are quite helpful and friendly. They guide us laboratory help us in conducting the practical. They take us for snorkeling in holidays.
Admission :
I got admitted here through entrance examination. I got AIR 26 and got admitted to the Msc. Marine biology. This is central university, and we are in the off campus of Pondicherry University in the Island city of Port blair, Andaman and Nicobar Island. The course Marine biology is fascinating as well as the place which attracted me to join the course.
Faculty :
There are 3 professors and 4 assistant professiors in Our Department. They are quite well educated and friendly. Prof. R mohan raju has specialization in Marine Microbiology and Biological oceanography and etc. Prof J. K MIishra teaches us Physical Oceanography and Marine bioactive compound. Dr. S. Venu is specialized in Fisheries and Aquaculture. Other faculties are expert in the field of Marine biotechnology, Taxonomy of benthic and deep-sea organisms, Coral and mangrove ecosystem etc.
