Remarks :
VNIT Nagpur is a very good College and it is a dream College for many of the students who aspire to be an Engineer. Only few of the many get the privilege to study in such an estimed institute. The faculty is good and the facilities are very good too. There are lot of opportunities on offer and one can grow a lot.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is very balanced with equal weightage on the Theory as well as the practical part of learning. The course structure of every subject was quite informative, which is helping me in the life after College to a great extent. The Exam structure was simple. 15% weightage on Sessional 1 ( Mid-term exam) 15% weightage on Sessional 2 10% teacher's assessment (Which was based on Assignments and Class tests) 60% weightage on the End Term exam So one had to study the whole semester to score well.
Placement Experience :
The placements are not great, but they are very good. Around 70% of the eligible students get placed every year. There are not much job opportunities in Nagpur or Vidarbha due to the lack of industries in the area. Also, our College provides internship opportunities with the some companies and offer projects to the students to work on during the vacation. Overall, College supports in the best way possible for jobs and internships. The average stipend an intern receives is 10-15 K per month
College Events :
Our College has many fests: Aarohi - The cultural festival happens for 3 days in the month of October and has a participation of around 30K people Institute Gathering - This is a 10 day event held in the month of January, where all the departments fight each other to win the Gathering, which comprises of Cultural events, sports, etc. Consortium - The management or Start-up festival which is held by the E-cell of the College in the month of February or March is a 3 day event with a participation of about 10K people. AXIS - The technical festival happens for 3 days in the month of February which has a participation of around 30K. I was myself the Core Committee of AXIS and Aarohi. These two things were the best things that happened in my College life.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee is a bit more. I had to pay 39, 100/- per semester. But from the 2016 batch, the students have to pay 76, 000/- per semester. These fee is inclusive of the tuition fee, exam fee, library fee and all the other miscelleneous fees. Also, I paid 15, 500/- as a deposit during admission, out of which 10, 000/- got refunded after I graduated. 5000/- is medical deposit. 500/- is the ID card fees Both of these are non-refundable.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
College doesn't offer scholarship or loan. But many external organizations and banks offer scholarships and loans.
Campus Life :
They extra curricular activities are very good. There is enough exposure for any student to explore himself/herself. There is big sports ground, a sports complex, table tennis tables in the hostel with ample facilities. There are many clubs in the College like Dramatics, Literature, Entrepreneurship, Robotics, Social, Astronomy, etc. and students are encouraged to be a part of these clubs from the first year itself. There are many Workshops being held in the College throughout the year, both technical and non-technical. The Gender ratio is not very encouraging, the average Girl:Boy is 1:5 There is no discrimination in the College on the basis of Gender, Ethnicity, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Poltics or Economic Status. The College is one of the best places to be in.
Hostel Facilities :
I had opted the hostel. In the first and second year we had 4 people sharing one room and we got single rooms in the 3rd & 4th year. The rooms are spacious and very much livable. There are around 500 seats per hostel, so basically everybody who wants hostel can get to stay in it. The hostel fee is inclusive of the mess fees. We got 4 meals a day, with the food being edible to say the least.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is very big and strong. There's an Alumni Association in place which is always ready to help the students with scholarships, internships, jobs, etc. Some of the alumnis are at top position in some big organizations and they are an inspiration for the students. I did internship after the 3rd year in an organization owned by an alumnus. They are very supportive and encouraging.
Admission :
I wrote the JEE Main in 2015. The All India Rank list came out with JEE Main and Class 12 boards marks taken into equal consideration. After the ranks come out, to be a part of Admission Process for the NITs, we had to fill a form on the JoSAA portal and had to fill in the choices (the Colleges and branches) in the order we like. I had put NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, VNIT Nagpur, NIT Surathkal, etc. in this order, all branches being Mechanical Engineering. In the first round itself, I got Mechanical Engineering in VNIT Nagpur and I went on and freezed this choice. I chose Mechanical Engineering in VNIT Nagpur because I was always fascinated by machines and Mechanical Engineering in VNIT is one of the best in the country with expert faculties and excellent facilities for the students.
Faculty :
The faculty is very qualified and they are experts in their subject. They are always interested in teaching and resolving the doubts of the students. Mechanical Engineering at VNIT has one of the best faculty in the entire College.
