Overall review

Remarks :

One negative remark is the location of the college, it is located a small hill station named Ravangla. The weather is very cold here and it gets chilly in winters, dropping to zero degree Celsius. The positive remark is that the institute is growing in all fields since it's inception in 2010. The students have started to set a mark by achievement in national level examination and competitions.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I have completed my B.Tech in Computer Science. The course curriculum is quite good. Comparing it with latest trends, the curriculum needs an update. The basic subjects are included in the curriculum. Need introduction of new subjects and more grip(if introduced) on the subject.Earlier, the exam structure had one mid semester exam and one end semester exam with 20 percent of marks on projects/ assignments. Now, the mid semester is bifurcated into two, mid semester 1 and mid semester 2, while other things are constant.

Placement Experience :

This is one area where College has seen continuous improvement. The placement statistics are increasing at a steady rate every year. Many PSUs and reputated IT companies visit the campus for recruitment. Yes, the training and placement cell works to provide internship to students in pre-final year (mainly) and also to second year students. The stipend is totally dependent on the institute/company where they complete the internship.

College Events :

1. Abhiyantran: the annual technical festival. 2. Udgam: the annual cultural festival. 3. Sports Day: celebrated annually. 4. Diwali: the festival of lights. 5. The literary club named as regnant ink organizes few events and competitions weekly. 6. Explode cup: the annual cricket cup.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is feasible. There are slabs on the basis of annual income of the family. Being a central government institute, the fees are feasible for bacholers. Considering the fact that recent 200 percent hike in the fees for masters is very expensive.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The students (other than General category students) are benefitted by the National scholarship scheme. The students get amount tentatively same the expenses beared during a single year. There are no scholarships available for general Category students.

Campus Life :

The basic labs in all the department are set up. Still, there is a need for multi-facility lab. Students in some department go to IITs to complete their labs in the semester. There are volleyball, cricket and football ground and a badminton court in the campus. In extra curricular activities, people can take part in event organized by the literary club and play sports.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostels rooms are becoming crowded since the intake has also increased. Earlier the same room was shared three persons, now it has been shared by five or six people. I would hostel infrastructure and facilities 6 out 10

Alumni/Alumna :

There is single platform alumni network. If one needs needs help, then he or she has to talk to alumni individually. In general, all the alumni are very helpful and there are experience has been helpful in making their decision in career.

Admission :

To get admission at NIT Sikkim, one has to take the examination called as JEE-mains, which is a national level exam. One get admission admission in NITs and other Central universities on the basis of rank secured in the examination.

Faculty :

The faculties are quite young and have lesser experience. Overall, one has to be dependent on resources online or books more than the faculties. But, few faculties are very good in terms of skills and knowledge and they try to give their best.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active and well equipped to bring recruiters from diverse group of organisations. The pre final and final year students are allowed to sit for interview. The highlight this year for me was Mercedes Benz hiring a student from Mechanical Department giving a very high package. A good chunk of people get placed every year. I am also looking forward to placement opportunities on campus, I believe there'll be enough opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen this course because this course can help me learn both the coding and electronics part. Faculties are well qualified but sometimes they are not able to explain the things and sometimes they also avoid our doubt if we chok in the middle. We appear for three term exam in every 2 months. Some subjects are very difficult to pass because we are unable to understand them in class

Placement Experience:

After 5th semester, the college has on-campus internship options and after during 7th semester, you will be eligible to sit for campus placements. Many companies come for campus placement including IBM, NVIDIA, Deloitte, etc. PLacements for CSE, ECE, and EEE are very good. In 2023 highest placement was from EEE of 44 lakhs from NVIDIA. In Mechanical most of the students get PPO. For Civil, very least options are available. Usually, 80% of students get placed every year.

Placement Experience:

Several companies come for campus placement. Third years are elligible for summer internships and fourth years can get placement + Internship offer for the last semester internship. The college provides us with pre-placement training which is very helpful which I'm currently undergoing. The placement record of the college has been satisfactory till now. We also get sessions from alumnus who tell us their experience and guide us through their experience. The placement drives can be improved hope for more companies and more opportunities to be given to every students.
