Which will be better for electrical engineering, out of IIT Indore and Ropar?

TA

Lives in New Delhi

Both the institutes are well-regarded in the field of technical education but if I had to choose one, I would have gone for IIT Indore without any second thoughts. Here’s why

  • The ACM ICPC team and the impressive coding culture have made IIT Indore one of the most preferred IITs among coding lovers. You will be surprised to know that Team Paradigm Shift of IIT-I was ranked 1st in India making it known globally.
  • The research culture is another major reason I would choose IIT Indore. It has been rated highest among the IITs for the amount of research work going on and some of its research work has been published in the top magazines of the world.
  • The IIT Indore is working with CERN and also helping NASA with a certain project.
  • IIT Indore has the best faculty that encourages research work in every possible way.
  • The hostel and campus facilities are at another level. The apartments have brought great changes in the accommodation of its students
  • The institute enjoys the locational advantage of being in the only city that has both IIT and IIM.
  • Big companies like Infosys and TCS are establishing their offices in Indore and are expected to deliver 5000 jobs in the coming 5–6 years.
  • The curriculum is overseen by IIT- Bombay, the mentor IIT of IIT Indore so it's the best in the country with a plethora of electives to choose from.
  • FLUXUS, the annual fest of IIM Indore is central India's biggest cultural and technical fest.

All these points are more than enough to convince you to choose IIT Indore over IIT Ropar.

IIT BHU is a better choice than VJTI, SPCE, and COEP. But it totally depends on you; if you have a keen interest in the electrical or mechanical field, then go with the other options. At IIT BHU, you will have the advantage of a branch change policy; you can switch to the CSE department if you strive very hard. Which college is better for electrical, PEC or NIT, Jalandhar?

DV
Devon Victor Posted On : December 8th, 2022
MSc. in Applied Mathematics, National Institute of Technology, Warangal (Graduated 2017)

Rather than telling you which college is better let’s discuss some factors you should consider before deciding on your college. These will help you make the best choice.

  • Faculty: Look for the college with the oldest and most experienced faculty. They should encourage you to take upon new challenges in life rather than just teaching.

  • Infrastructure: To ensure that the 4 years you spend in college are worthwhile, proper infrastructure is very important. Applying your knowledge requires laboratories, libraries, and other facilities.

  • Exposure: Choose the college that renders the best exposure through seminars, workshops, guest levy, and technical visits to plants. This is way more necessary than just studying your books.

  • Placements: This is the most crucial factor taken into consideration while choosing your college. Compare the colleges you have in mind for the placement figures. You will get a general idea.

Proper research based on these factors will help you select the right college for you. Moreover, you can also search for alumni of both the mentioned colleges and ask them directly. They will be more than willing to help.

How is electrical engineering at IIT Patna?

NT
Nivedita Trivedi Posted On : June 22nd, 2023
IIT Patna

Recently, IIT Patna has changed Electrical Engineering to Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Even before this, the Curriculum of the course was Electrical and Electronics(EEE), only the change in name has been done.

IIT Patna Electrical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of the institute and has the most experienced faculty pool. Many professors are members of various International forums such as IEEE. The EE department is known to publish many papers and works on various government and private-funded projects.

IIT Patna EEE has the best curriculum and culture because of its

  • Fully equipped world-class research labs of Embedded systems, VLSI, Broad Communication and Networking, DSP Labs, RF and Microwave labs, Advanced EE labs, and Electrical Machines Instrumentation
  • Collaboration with foreign Universities for student exchange programs such as National University of Singapore(NUS), and Kyoto University.
  • Excellent placement scenario of IIT Patna EE with the highest CTC standing at INR 82.05 LPA and the average at INR 24.85 LPA. The placement percentage of this branch is 83.56%. Students usually get placed in RNDs, PSU’s, IT sectors, etc.
  • Big achievements made by the students such as participation in ACM-ICPC World Finals and being the top in DD Robocon Stage I.
  • The alumni of the EE department of IIT Patna aced the Civil Services Examination like IAS, IES, etc. One of them secured AIR 33, while the other secured AIR 64.

Overall, the IIT Patna Engineering department is well-regarded and is a great choice.

Is CS at NIT Jalandhar better than EE at MNIT Jaipur? (I am from Jaipur)

AY
Atul Yadav Posted On : December 7th, 2022
B.Tech in Production and Industrial Engineering & Data Analytics, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar ( NITJ ) (Graduated 2019

To draw a comparison between CS at NIT Jalandhar and EE at MNIT Jaipur, let’s discuss the various factors below:

  1. Infrastructure: The infrastructure of MNIT is slightly better than that of NIT Jalandhar. MNITs campus has the largest lecture theater complex in the whole of Asia. NIT's campus is away from the main city but it is also beautiful with a soothing ambiance.

  2. Placement: Because of its location NIT Jalandhar faces a few drawbacks in the case of placements.

The conclusion is as follows:

  • If you prefer a future in the private sector, NIT is better for you. But if you are interested in Electrical MNIT is a good option.

  • If you are a coding freak, then CS at NIT Jalandhar is a better option.

  • If you want a job in Civil Services, then EE at MNIT is better than CSE at NIT Jalandhar.

  • If you want a better college and campus life then MNIT is a better option.

So CS at any college is a good choice but most importantly what matters is what you want to pursue actually.

How is the electrical engineering department in heritage institute of technology?

AD
Akash Dhar Posted On : September 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Information Technology, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata in 2020

Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata has a very good faculty for Electrical Engineering, probably the best in West Bengal. It has a very friendly environment which will aim to give you very promising college life.

This stream has been somewhat a new introduction to the institute. So in its early years, there was uncertainty in the placements. EE department fell short of the CSE, ECE, IT, AEIE. A lot of the graduates did not get placements by the end of their course.

In the last placement season, the highest package offered to the students was INR 16 LPA and the average package was INR 4 LPA. The top recruiters were TCS, Honda, Infosys, Wipro, etc.

How is electrical engineering in NIT Durgapur? What are the scopes in this branch?

GJ
Gagan Jain Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Durgapur

Here are a few points about the electrical department of NIT Durgapur-

  • Placements- Some core companies that visit the campus for placements are- Mahindra & Mahindra R&D, Tata Motors, Schneider Electric, ABB, Siemens and L&T. But these brands hire 5 students at most and the packages offered aren’t that good. However, companies like Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs, Future First and IOCL offer good packages.
  • Infrastructure- The infrastructure of NIT Durgapur has improved. Old dilapidated buildings have been renovated.
  • Academics and Professors- The schedule of EE isn’t very hectic. You’ll get lots of free time. You can use it to learn PLC, SCADA and MATLAB from various sources. You can also work on specialized projects under your preferred mentor. Some of the finest teachers in NIT Dgp teach electrical machines, renewables and high voltage engineering. You’ll need to teach yourself the other subjects.
  • Facilities- The library has plenty of books on each subject. You’ll get a fast speed LAN and a free of cost IEEE subscription on campus. The lab tools do their job, but they aren’t precise.
  • Extracurriculars- Most of the fests and clubs are designed for coders. Core tech people don’t get a lot of opportunities in clubs and events.
  • Peers- There is an unhealthy rat race prevailing in this college. Getting good GPAs is considered the only real academic achievement.
  • Campus Environment- There is a lack of senior-junior interaction these days, unlike the past. Strict restrictions to avoid ragging have cost the campus its vibrant environment.

If you aren’t getting a good branch in Southern NITs, MNNIT Allahabad or MNIT Jaipur, you can definitely go for electrical at NIT Durgapur. The electrical department here is good overall.

How is electrical engineering in MANIT Bhopal?

SB
Shivani Bansal Posted On : November 11th, 2023
Studied at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

As an alumnus of MANIT Bhopal, I will try to shed some light on the Electrical department of my college-

  • Faculty- The regular faculty (professors) is quite good and supportive. The professors are amiable in nature, and always there for the students. But some of them are short-tempered.
  • Placement Scenario- The placements completely depend on company requirements, so they can’t be deemed good or bad. Around 60 companies visit the department every placement season. The placement percentage drops and rises according to the vacancies in the firms for that particular year. Also, as the Electronics branch has strengthened its hold, Electrical placements have received a setback.
  • Facilities- The lab facilities are poor, but the management is good. It is the only department with fixed rules and regulations.

Overall, Electrical Engineering is a decent option, and you’ll enjoy your stay at MANIT Bhopal.

Which is better: IIT Indore CS or IIT Roorkee electrical?

NT
Nivedita Trivedi Posted On : June 20th, 2023
Lives in Indore

Looking at your choices I see you are victim to the most common dilemma among the Engineering aspirants; the core branch in old IITs or the CS branch in new IITs. The best way to determine this is by going through the course structure of both branches and seeing what interests you the most.

Inculcating basic programming skills side by side won’t hurt. It will help you realize if you are interested in coding or not. If you are, then IIT Indore is the best option for you because of its rich coding culture.

IIT Indore promotes coding through various clubs such as the programming club and even your seniors guide you throughout. But if you realize programming is not your cup of tea, you can give up on IIT Indore and choose IIT Roorkee instead. It’s an old IIT and thus the exposure and opportunities will be much better.

To know which is better Electrical Engineering at VSSUT or CET Burla, you need to go through the pros of both institutes

Pros of CET

  • Location: CET is located in Bhubaneswar thereby offering plenty of exposure to industries and nearby institutes like IIT Bhubaneswar, KIIT University, NIFT Bhubaneswar, etc. The students also get to experience a dynamic city life in contrast to VSSUT.
  • Placement: Owing to its superior location, CET has a slightly better placement scenario.

Pros of VSSUT

  • Unitary University: VSSUT is a unitary university so faces no issues regarding examination schedules and result declaration.
  • Clubs: VSSUT has an active club life and you will find clubs for almost everything from SAE clubs, Robotics Society, and Literary Society, to the Drama club, dance clubs, quiz club, music club, and a lot more.
  • Environment: Burla is a place far from the hustle and bustle of city life offering a peaceful and serene ambiance.
  • Crowd: VSSUT welcomes some great minds who are the top rankers of the state after NIT Rourkela.
  • Legacy: VSSUT has a rich legacy of 60 years so its alumni network is very strong which helps in the development of the university.

The pros of VSSUT overshadowed the pros of CET making the former a better choice.
