How are the placement of electrical engineering in NIT Rourkela?

AK
Ashish Kumar Posted On : August 14th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2019)

NIT Rourkela's average package of Electrical Engineering 2023 was recorded at INR 14.55 LPA. Moreover, the quality and number of recruiters are also great given the fact that it's one of the top NITs. However, core jobs are only a handful and not at par with IT jobs. Usually, the toppers of the electrical engineering branch secure jobs in the limited core companies that visit for placements.

NIT Rourkela Electrical Engineering is the perfect choice for those looking for a government job preferably in PSUs. PSUs give a lot of preference to Electrical Engineers especially from NIT Rourkela since most of their work involves the core engineering branches.

I asked a friend in NIT Rourkela regarding the current placement scenario of the EE branch. As per the information he shared, almost 92% of the student got placed in 2022. Top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Qualcomm, Oracle, Adobe, Wipro, Citi Bank, and SAP Labs. The highest CTC recorded was 55 LPA, while the average package was 11-12 LPA.

In all, placements in the electrical engineering branch of NIT Rourkela are great with immense opportunities in software roles, electrical and electronics roles, and analytical roles.

Should I take electrical engineering in new IITs like Ropar, Patna, and Dhanbad or physics in old IITs like Kharagpur and Roorkee or computer science at NIT Hamirpur?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 21st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Anyone getting admission to any IIT should not consider NITs then. It’s true that the old IITs have better infrastructure and brand value than tier-2 IITs but these new IITs are still in their development stage and haven’t reached their conclusion. Considering their huge growth over the past decade, they will reach new heights in the future

The new IITs provide better opportunities and freedom to students as the foundation of the college isn’t very strong so they build it alongside. The students grow and develop their personalities along with the growing institute. There is no compromise in the quality of education as the faculty is recruited after tremendous filtering.

The branch is more important than the college so don’t choose a less preferred branch in an old IIT just for the brand value rather go for the branch of your choice in a new IIT.

As for Physics, it requires genuine commitment and interest. Go for it only if you are certain of a career in it as the options in this branch are limited in contrast to Electrical Engineering. That being said, IIT Ropar is one of the best second-generation IITs, and its curriculum is very flexible and the location is also great. So my final recommendation would be to go for IIT Ropar Electrical.

How are the electrical engineering placements at IIT Kanpur?

NG
Neha Ghosh Posted On : April 24th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2020)

IIT Kanpur is a premier engineering college offering top notch education and placement opportunities to its students from every branch of engineering. Electrical Engineering is a much-preferred branch among engineering students and IIT Kanpur offers the best placements for this branch.

  • The branch has a 100% placement percentage of month UG and PG a students
  • UG students tend to go for non-core companies because of the lucrative pay offered by many companies
  • PG students on the other hand are more skilled and experienced and thus opt for core jobs. Even core companies prefer MTech students to BTech students
  • Due to better opportunities in non-core industries, UG students end up with better packages and roles than PG students.
  • PG students too aren’t very unlucky and most of them end up with a packages higher than INR 15 LPA. The usual range is 10-15, with very few only those who get below 10 LPA.

All in all, if you are planning to take EE from IIT Kanpur, you can rest assured at least in terms of placements!

What is average package for an EE at NIT Jalandhar, and what is the highest?

SG
Sukrit Gupta Posted On : December 3rd, 2022
Studied at B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Jalandhar (NITJ) (Graduated 2022)

The placement percentage of Electrical Engineers at NIT Jalandhar this year (2022) was 69.23%.

The average Package of EE (2018-2022) Batch (till date) is 11.95 LPA. This package was for the FTE offer for GET(Graduate Engineer Trainee) Role.

The highest Package secured by one of my classmates was INR 9.2 LPA in FuturesFirst (Trading). Some were selected by Deloitte USI offering 6.2 LPA (Consulting) followed by Saint Gobain offering 6 (Shift Engineer+marketing) and many more.

Basically, almost everyone from EE was able to get placed at good firms with good packages. In Fact, some big companies like Samsung, HSBC, Texas Instruments, and Oracle visited for students with software profiles but one of us had actually developed proficiency in it.

If you are really interested in the subject go for it. Don’t worry about placements. For the best placements join the circuital branch ( CSE, ECE, IT, EE, ICE)

Is NIT Durgapur for electrical engineering a good idea?

TS
Tanya Sharma Posted On : September 8th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Durgapur

The answer to this question depends on your future goals. Here are a few highlights of electrical engineering at NIT Durgapur-

  1. NIT Dgp offers good opportunities for higher studies from a foreign university. This is possible if you maintain a 9 CGPA or above in each semester. The electrical department has professors whose recommendations can get you into pretty good universities abroad for your MS or any other degree.
  2. Electrical has decent placements, with 89.66% of students getting placed in 2023. Core companies like Tata Power, Schneider Electric, Vedanta, JSL, Tata Motors, LnT, etc. visit the campus regularly for recruitment. With basic technical knowledge and good communication skills, you can easily grab a core job.
  3. The faculty of electrical is highly qualified, but few have good teaching skills. The professors are strict, they aren’t student-friendly.
  4. The infrastructure of EE labs is quite poor. The labs contain old and ill-maintained equipment.

The department has a fair share of weaknesses. Despite this, it is one of the oldest departments of NIT Durgapur. After CSE, ECE and ME, EE is the best branch at NIT Dgp.

Thus, you should definitely consider Electrical at NIT Durgapur.

I got NIT Rourkela for biotechnology and VSSUT for electrical. Which is the best in the sense of placement records?

SV
Sudeeksha Verma Posted On : August 14th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2020)

Both NIT Rourkela and VSSUT are at the same level in terms of placements. BioTech students from NIT Rourkela and Electrical students from VSSUT get placed in software firms like TCS/IBM. Therefore, I recommend you look beyond placements and adopt a broader perspective. Identify where your interests and passions lie and approach that path rather than running after placements.

The field of Biotechnology is growing at a fast pace with cutting-edge research taking place. Many of NIT Rourkela Biotechnology alumni are today advancing into successful careers or research paths. Some examples are

  • An alumnus is currently pursuing his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford.
  • Another alumnus is pursuing her master's at the University of California at Berkeley.
  • A senior is currently pursuing Ph.D. at the national university of Taiwan.

The best part of Biotechnology at NIT Rourkela is the limited number of students which increases your chances of performing well in competitive exams like GATE increases.

Overall, being a part of a well-reputed institute like NIT Rourkela will offer great exposure both academically and personally. As an Electrical student at VSSUT, you will most probably be getting into a boring job at PSU. Moreover, Burla has a deteriorating infrastructure and poor campus facilities. So go for NIT Rourkela!

What should I choose, NSUT Electrical or IIT Kharagpur Food and agriculture Engineering?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : March 27th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

For your information, the Agriculture Department of IIT Kharagpur itself is around 300 acres whereas the entire IIT Delhi is sightless less than 400 acres. The huge area of IIT KGP is definitely not a boon and might actually work against you. Moreover, it’s not a brainer that Electrical Engineering seems to be a better option than Agriculture Engineering unless you have an interest in the latter. NSUT itself is a pretty decent institute and is much in demand because of its central location.

In short, I recommend you to join IIT Kharagpur (Agriculture) only under 2 circumstances,

  • You are genuinely interested in the field and want it to pursue a career in the same
  • You want to pursue higher studies in foreign studies.

For this, the IIT tag will be much more useful than NSUT. The entire answer is based on my opinion only and not on any data.
