Why is ICT, Mumbai not converted to IIEST whereas other colleges like CUSAT are?

UZ
Uzma Zarin Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Studied at Cochin University of Science and Technology (2019)

CUSAT has yet to receive an IIEST upgrade. The work is still on, and funds have been allocated to strengthen the infrastructure in the next few years. Being an ex-student of the college, I'm not sure when it'll be upgraded.

  • Many people at the college, as far as I know, do not want it to be upgraded to an IIEST.
  • There's a lot of politics involved there.
  • Also not sure why certain people at the institute don't want to take advantage of it because being an IIEST has a lot of advantages.

To answer your question, despite being an excellent college, the Ananda Krishnan committee has not recommended ICT Mumbai for conversion to an IIEST. Let me give you a list of potential causes:

  • It is a modest institute in terms of campus size (16 acres), however, there is a need for more space for future expansion.
  • This is one of IIEST's requirements (a lot of space for further improvement of infrastructure and expansion).
  • Standard engineering courses such as CSE, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Metallurgy, and Mining are not offered.
  • The institute is known for Chemical Engineering.

The institute offers Bachelor’s degrees in B. Pharma, Food Engineering and Technology, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, Polymer Engineering and Technology, Surface Coating Technology, Oils, Oleochemicals and Surfactants Technology, etc.

Is ICT Mumbai better than the computer of COEP?

AR
Aman Raj Posted On : January 28th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering & Computer Engineering Minor, COEP, 2019

Chemical Engineering and computer science are two completely different subjects, even though they belong to one broad stream of Engineering. The student needs to decide first your stream of specialization, which course they are interested to study. If your answer is chemical engineering then ICT Mumbai is the best option.

There should be three solid reasons behind a student selecting ICT Mumbai, which are:

  • The quality of education, faculty, and placements is on par with the IITs. The ICT Mumbai campus is known for its lively culture along with the organization of multiple technical and cultural fests.
  • A student will enjoy an out-and-out exposure, gaining theoretical knowledge in class and simultaneously putting them into practice during their practical ventures.
  • The placement rate in ICT Mumbai is good, the only set-back is that it is restricted to chemical engineering only.

If a student has decided to study chemical engineering and his following plans are along the lines of the reasons mentioned above, then ICT Mumbai is his/her place to be.

ICT Mumbai is only best in chemical engineering, not computer science. Similarly, COEP is the best for computer science and not chemical engineering. Therefore, the student should get a surety on the subject they want to pursue and then go to the college that is best for that particular stream.

Which is better for chemical engineering, ISM Dhanbad or ICT Mumbai?

MR
Manish Raj Posted On : January 28th, 2021
M.Tech. Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

ICT Mumbai is a better option for chemical engineering. A friend of mine recommended ICT Mumbai due to certain major reasons listed below:

  • ICT Mumbai has a history of providing consultancy to several industries. They are provided with much-needed solutions.
  • Being a student of ICT Mumbai will give you a chance to gain theoretical knowledge as well as practical experience. ICT Mumbai will provide the students with practical and operational knowledge in abundance.
  • The placement scenario is also good, the students will be interviewed and recruited by core companies.
  • A student needs to understand and remember that chemical engineering doesn't account for chemistry. The students/engineers from this branch of science are expected to invent and design machines that will be capable of producing products with certain specifications.
  • The product should guarantee the safety of the personal, equipment, and the environment at large, the product should be compatible with the utmost and proper utilization of resources.
  • The inference of engineering knowledge into practical knowledge is what will make a student irreplaceable. This can be achieved through practical experiences, troubleshooting, and operational experience, all of which are available in Mumbai.

Therefore, the final choice should be ICT Mumbai for pursuing chemical engineering. Here is a presentation of some of the factual information:

Particulars

ICT Mumbai

ISM Dhanbad

Placement rate(2020)

70%

65%

Average salary package (2020)

>4.5LPA AND <16.5LPA

>9LPA AND <43LPA

Fee structure(2020)

Rs. 85,350 (for the first year)

Rs. 8,80,000

ICT Mumbai is better than ISM Dhanbad from every aspect. The faculty is well read and has ample domain knowledge. They try their level best to help students with their doubts. I hope the information provided above helps.
