The section-wise weightage for final PGDBA shortlisting is not revealed by these colleges. They analyze all these aspects and a candidate’s interview when putting out the final offer. The interview helps them assess what a candidate brings to the table. Even if they start announcing the section-wise weightages some day, that should not affect your test preparation. Your work experience and past academic record are unchangeable factors, but your entrance test score is in your hands.

Study for the entrance exam with utmost sincerity, and stop worrying about other aspects of your profile that you can not change.

Can I apply for more than one master course at ISI Kolkata?

MS(QMS) from Indian Statistical Institute (2018)

Yes, you can apply for more than one master’s course at ISI Kolkata but you won’t be able to appear for more than one entrance examination.

  • All the entrance exams are conducted on the same day at the same time, therefore you will not be able to appear for more than one examination.
  • Technically you can fill the application forms for more than one examination if you are a bit confused at present and want to have safe options. You can apply using two different email IDs to register and make the payments for both of them.

But in the end, you will have to decide which exam you want to prepare for and appear in.

What is opnion about ISI Kolkata?

TC
Tanuja Roy Chowdhury Posted On : September 16th, 2021
Studies M.Tech. in Quality ,Reliability and Operations Research at ISI Kolkata,2023

The best course area ISI Kolkata has mastered until today is PCM. It is one of the premier institutes of India and is offering masters in several fields concerning research on Statistics.

Apart from that, this institute offers 2 UG programs, namely B.Stat and B.Math. The entrance exams to both of these courses are considered to be highly difficult to ace. The entrance exams are relatively even more difficult than JEE-Advanced.

A major difference between ISI Kolkata and other institutes is that they only enroll around 30-40 students per year, to help keep its value intact.

Quite clearly, it is a very demanding course area. If only you are typically inclined towards the subject area, you can take it up as a future career, since it is extremely fruitful if aced.

Yes, ISI Kolkata MTech CS coursework include an internship. You need to do an internship in industry or in academia, during the summer after your first year. There are three types of internships.

Industry Internship - Companies recruiting through ISI Kolkata placements, also select interns. MTech CS students have done internships from Google, Samsung Research Lab, JP Morgan Chase, Reliance, etc. Students receive an average stipend of around INR 65,000/month.

Internships from Universities - ISI also gives the option to do internships from other institutes. Many do their internships at universities abroad. Students also go to tier 1 Indian institutes such as IIT, CMI, etc.

Internship at ISI -  Students also have the option to do internships at ISI.

After first year, you will have summer internship and in second year you will have placements and dissertation. If you want to do an additional internship, the only time will be winter after the first sem.

Which one should I consider between an MS in Statistics from an Ivy League college in the USA or an MS in Statistics from ISI Kolkata?

B.Math from Indian Statistical Institute (2018)

It is important to collect a good amount of information as to how to apply to a US college and then ask yourself which course to consider. After this, you must look for that option that fulfills your requirements and needs. When you qualify for those exams, then you must consider which one to choose.

  • For the Ivy League colleges, you will be required to appear for GRE Mains and TOEFL.
  • In almost all cases it would be a better prospect for you to give GRE as an exam as it will give a bit more of a specialized vibe to your application.
  • The next step would be to send in your application to individual universities along with your CV, mark sheets, and letter of recommendation from your college faculty.
  • In some of the cases, they also require you to send a good SOP.

Now, you must gather information about all of the above-mentioned exams and start preparing for them.

Will there be any problems faced by students in communication in ISI Kolkata?

SD
Snigdha Das Posted On : September 6th, 2021
B.Stat Statistics & Mathematics, Indian Statistical Institute (2018)

As one of my friends is from ISI Kolkata, let me share some of her experiences about it, which might give you a clear idea.

  • During his initial and first ISI stay back in 2016, he met a few summer students from Kerala.
  • That was when he had a chance to work around any sort of language barrier.
  • It is to be noted that Indians will be able to get by easily, especially because Indian languages share a lot of similarities.
  • Non-Indians, particularly those from beyond the subcontinent, may have more difficulty, but I believe non-Indians are uncommon at the college level.
  • Almost everyone on campus speaks English and/or Hindi.
  • Students and teachers, with the exception of a small minority, speak functional English.
  • A few gestures may be required while interacting with non-teaching staff.
  • Off-campus merchants and service providers frequently speak basic Hindi, which can be witnessed with gestures.
  • This is analogous to how in Chennai, English augmented with a few basic Tamil words and gestures suffices.
  • Furthermore, if you already know Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, or any comparable language, the Bengali language would be easy to learn.

As a result, the vast majority of linguistic backgrounds in India are covered. Eventually, there's a low likelihood that an Indian from another state will have serious communication problems.

How are the classrooms and campus at ISI Kolkata? Are the classrooms air conditioned?

M.Tech Computer Science, Indian Statistical Institute (2014)

ISI Kolkata is a very good mix of the old school and modern infrastructure. There are classes that have a typical old-school vibe like a tall ceiling, fans hanging from rods, typical old wooden benches and desks, a traditional wood-lined blackboard with chalks and dusters.

There are fully air-conditioned classes, gallery-type classrooms and all other modern facilities you will ever need. The campus is lush green, close to the River Hooghly and thus cool winds blow throughout the day. There are open areas for playgrounds, ponds along with the hostels and the academic blocks.

Which of the following is better, ISI Kolkata or IIM Ahmedabad for an economic honours student?

SB
Snigdha Banerjee Posted On : March 1st, 2022
BA(H) Economics, Delhi University

If you want better placement opportunities after completing your degree then choosing IIM A over ISI Kolkata will be better. IIM A is well known for its high ROI. The average CTC offered during 2021 placements was INR 25 LPA. Course fee at IIM A is comparably higher than ISI Kolkata. IIM A fees for this academic year are INR 22 lakhs.

If you aren’t interested in the analytics field or pursuing a Ph.D. then choosing IIM A will be better.

The internet speed and facilities are fantastic at ISI Kolkata. This should be the least of your concerns. You will have also have access to a computer lab with high-speed Wi-Fi.

There used to be a gym, but it is not available anymore. A new canteen has taken over the floor where the gym used to be.

They have a well-kept large field that is primarily used for football and also hosts the annual Sports Meet. Volleyball, table tennis, and other sports are played within the hostel.

Is the guest house in ISI Kolkata given to parents of ISI students? For how many days?

RB
Rohan Bose Posted On : September 21st, 2021
M.Tech Computer Science,Indian Statistical Institute (2014)

Yes, students at ISI are eligible to apply for a guest house accommodation for their parent(s). This completely depends upon the tenure of the stay and the availability of the rooms at the guest house. Basically, there are all these conferences taking place from June to December every year.

  • As official requests (conferences, meetings, etc.) are followed by the student requests, it is usually difficult for the latter to be approved during these months. So, getting a guest house might not be an easy task.
  • Relying on a guest house would not be appropriate in such a case and it is better to book a hotel.
  • Moreover, you can see a lot of highly qualified people including faculty, foreign industry personnel, and exchange students coming and going within the campus. So, the rooms are primarily booked for them.

Therefore, it is suggested you book a hotel. I am sure you might have got a clear idea about the facility assisted for the stay. It would be feasible to prefer other options in case first is not available.
