How do I, a prefinal year student doing EEE, get a summer research internship with IISC Bangalore in DSP, related particularly to “compressed sampling”?

You can directly apply for the summer research internship program at the official website of IISc Bangalore. Another way to secure a summer internship at IISc Bangalore is by direct email.

The professors at IISc receive numerous internship applications. Many of them hire interns much before your mail gets to them. Professors hire interns 2-3 months before the start of the internship period.

One of my seniors interned at IISc Bangalore. According to her-

  1. SOP counts a lot. Try to sound very convincing about how much you love that research area.
  2. The recommendation letter format offered by IISc contains an optional column to send the key publications of the professor who is giving you the LOR. Start the application in advance and coax your professor into giving the key publications of his research duly signed and attested.
  3. CGPA holds a lot of importance. Make sure to score well.
  4. A good courier service must be used to send the required papers. Track the documents. Your profile and write-up might be very good but unless they need to reach the right place.

If you are interested in research in compressed sampling and the institute is not your priority, you can also apply for international internships such as DAAD, MITACS, SN BOSE, and Charpak France. There are numerous foreign universities involved in extensive research on compressed sampling.

How do I get a summer internship in IISc Bangalore?

The only way to get a summer internship at IISc is through IAS (Indian Academy of Science). And you need to be in at least 2nd year to apply for it. Once you have applied, your application goes through professors whose departments are in need of interns.

Inters usually receive a stipend in return for their contributions. The professors expect you to be skillful and make big contributions. You can gain some prior knowledge related to the project before going for it. These internships are not for short time periods as the minimum time period for an internship is around 6 months.

When and how to apply for a winter internship at the IIT IISC and IISER?

SR
Sanjukta Roy Posted On : October 21st, 2021
Studied at IISER-Kolkata

If you haven’t already worked with a research group or under a professor during your summertime, IISc would be a little difficult for you.

There are a lot of professors and postdoctoral fellows who are enrolled in a subdiscipline at IISc. So any kind of internship will give you a little edge over others to be selected for winter internship.

If you are a scholar at KVPY or INSPIRE or NIUS, you might have better chances but the statement of purpose matters as well. Usually, you will have to send a mail with your CV and the statement of purpose along with a list of courses that you have completed to any of the professors who are related to that sub-discipline. You must also remember to apply early in September and if it is feasible for you, you must decide on a topic, duration, accommodation before October.

IISER - For IISERs, it would be advisable to go for Mohali or Bhopal. The application process is quite similar. September end to October is considered to be the best time to decide on a date and duration.

IITs - a few of them conduct sponsored winter programs but there is no logic in going to an IIT to study theoretical mathematics. You can rather go to Kanpur and Powai and the application procedure for both of them is the same as above.

If you wish to pursue cryptology, cryptanalysis, economical models, number theory, ISI and CMI would be considered better when it comes to exposure and experience. For complex analysis, and astrostatistics, you can go to IMSc, ISI, IISc, and CMI. You can opt for mathematical biology at IISERs and IISc.

Getting selected for the summer internship program at IIT Roorkee is based on luck, hard work, and good communication skills. You need to fill out the form a year before October.

How is internship (after MBBS) in AIIMS, Delhi?

SK
Singdhanjan Kar Posted On : June 3rd, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,New Delhi (2020)

Internship at AIIMS Delhi is considered to be one of the most prestigious and competitive internships in India. It offers an opportunity for MBBS degree holders to gain hands-on experience in various medical specialties and subspecialties. The internship program at AlIMS is known for its rigorous training and diverse patient population. However, internship at AIIMS is more relaxed in comparison to other medical colleges. In other colleges, as an intern, you will have to be on duty for the entire shift, and night shifts are also compulsory.

The posting in the major departments is very flexible with a lot of relaxation on the interns. All he is required to do is be present during the ward rounds, OPD, and sampling procedures and that's it. Sometimes, however, AIIMS Delhi interns are posted in the village for around 3 months which is a very challenging experience. There, they are required to run the PHC.

Overall, an internship at AIIMS Delhi is a beautiful learning experience with a minimal workload.

How is the internship (after MBBS) at VMMC Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 26th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

The internship scenario at VMMC is quite disappointing and tiring. The number of patients is so huge in all the departments and interns have to work more than required to get the work done. Their focus is not to learn new procedures but to complete the work and go. Here is the department-wise scenario

  • Pediatrics : In this department, interns are required to find all the case sheets(files) and reports and arrange them before the rounds begin. They are also responsible for dextrose monitoring and discharges. If you are posted in labor, you will have to ensure the baby’s safety.
  • Surgery : Here, interns are required to do sampling, dressing, and discharges. In emergency minor OT, you will have to I n D, suturing, catheterization, and such. Interns also go to OT to watch the surgeries. Postgraduate students may let you do procedures like hydrocele on minor OT days.
  • Medicine : The patient load varies from season to season. In dengue season, it’s maximum and you will always be busy doing sampling and cannulation.
  • OBC : Here you are responsible for sampling, cannulation, catheterization, and NST. You can also take deliveries in the labor room.
  • Orthopedic : During emergency days you will be busy with cast and traction. You might also have to do skeletal traction.
  • For other departments like PSM, ENT, Derma, Optha, and Casualty, the workload is comparatively less so you get a lot of free time.

Overall, through the internships, you will get confident at least in minor tasks, and gain a lot of hands-on experience.

Do companies offer PPOs or internships to third years at KIIT?

FS
Falguni Sharma Posted On : July 25th, 2023
Studied at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology

Yes several companies coming to KIIT offer decent internship opportunities in their third year. However, these companies have rigid criteria and screening processes.

As for the PPO, it completely depends on how well you have performed during your internship and is the quality of work you delivered was at par with the needs of the company. Very few companies offer PPOs beforehand.

Companies like Standard Chartered, HSBC, MuSigma, L&T Infotech, and Mass Recruiters like Accenture, Capgemini, Wipro, etc. offer full-time job opportunities.

It’s important to note that every recruiter has its own unique criteria for selection. For instance, Amazon conducts a test and interview but Dell selects the students on the basis of CGPA. A good placement preparation will take you a long way as the opportunities offered here are in abundance. Try to maintain a good CGPA and if you are in CS/IT, work on your coding skills. Don’t forget to give time to extracurricular activities also.

So it’s better to track the companies visiting around the summer break!
