My brother had to appear for an online interview because he applied during the corona time. He joined Google Meet on time and began with his introductions. The interviewers asked him a number of questions like
Basically, he was bombarded with a lot of technical questions although they helped him a lot. From the interview experience, he arrived at the conclusion that to ace the interview one must have revised the notes he/she prepared while studying for GATE.
When it comes to IITs it’s not really easy to compare them especially when these both are of the same generation.
However, if you still need to compare it is important for you to understand that an undergraduate degree is more of an exploration to discover your passion and interest. This hypothesis has been vetted by a large number of IIT graduates, IIM graduates, and many professors and IIT alums.
Let’s take a few examples for a case in point.
Flexibility:
So now that you understand the importance of flexibility and passion, IIT Gandhinagar stands out here undoubtedly. The curriculum at IIT Gandhinagar is very flexible and it allows you to study anything under the sun. This flexibility is the reason behind the success of Many IIT Gandhinagar graduates.
Apart from that, IIT Gandhinagar has the most funds among the second generation IITs. It offers around 30–40% of the batch with options to pursue foreign internships and great research opportunities.
Location:
If you compare IIT Ropar with IIT Gandhinagar, the latter takes the trophy again because it is situated in Gandhinagar which is the capital of Gujarat. The campus sits in the vicinity of CM residence, Vidhan Sabha, ambitious GIFT City project, prominent institutes such as DAIICT, NIFT, and many others.
Placement:
Placements at IIT Gandhinagar is excellent. The first CSE batch graduated in 2020. Without CSE only, firms such as Nutanix, Goldman Sachs, ITC, Barclays, etc. have been recruiting at the campus.
Alumni:
IIT Gandhinagar has to date graduated about 600+ students from BTech and at least 80–90% of them are quite successful. You can see alums are working in firms such as Mckinsey, Microsoft in the US, Amazon, Apple, BCG, ATK, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, ITC, PnG, to name a few. You can also visit the alumni portal to get an idea about it or just visit LinkedIn.
For these factors, CSE at IIT Gandhinagar is a better alternative.
The choice of the institute between IIT Gandhinagar CSE and IIT Guwahati ECE depends if you want to follow the branch of your interest or want just go for the brand name of the institute.
If you value a branch more than a brand then go for the institute that offers the branch of your choice. If you are inclined towards CSE, then go for IIT Gandhinagar without much hesitation. Despite being a new IIT, it offers the IT tag and education at par with most IITs. Don’t let the fact that it’s a new IIT demotivate you. The students maketh the college and not vice versa.
But if you are bothered by the brand value and are hesitant about joining a new IIT, then go for IIT Guwahati.
If you take my opinion then opting for IIT Gandhinagar for CSE is a better choice than going for ECE at IIT Guwahati. I am a student of IIT Gandhinagar and I can say that the CSE department is one of the best departments in terms of curriculums and placements.
My brother appeared in the written test for MSc Cognitive Sciences in February 2020. So, I can give you some insight about the same.
The written test analyses your comprehensive skills i.e. the ability to implement the things you read. The section will contain comprehension questions. It will also include some of the paragraphs or questions based on the Cognitive Science Journals.
Examination Pattern:
The written test is the same for everyone.
Preparation Tips:
Be patient and stay motivated. All the best for your exam.
There can’t be a single professor to blame but in general, the faculty of Electrical Engineering is not quite up to the mark.
Teaching:
Most of the research work here isn’t single funded. They claim to conduct world-class research but don’t have a single journal paper for years. This is the reason why IIT Gandhinagar ranking had many pitfalls in previous years.
Well frankly speaking the academic environment of IITGN has already deteriorated to a large degree.
Just a few months ago, one of my friends said that the IITGN director has started a poll to re-evaluate the academic climate due to pressure. Such a poll is actually novel in an academic institute. Interestingly the poll is conducted by his hired persons. Consequently, the result was very clear that the intention is to show with fake results, compiled by his own people, that everything is great there.
The students of IITGN had to endure various struggles because of the director who resembles to be mentally unstable to many colleagues. What actually happens in IITGN is nothing less than a dictatorial regime, where you will observe that the ruler always tries to promote their betterment to the outside world by publishing pictures, fake polls, and surveys, twisted or fabricated news items that people are so happy and loyal under their rule.
Whereas in reality, the only notion on people’s minds is absolute fear and hatred for the ruler. Remember some of the widely circulated pictures of Hitler hugging little kids, or of a smiling Kim Jong-Un being embraced by female fans. IIT Gandhinagar's administration style is pretty similar to that.
Before I tell you the exact reason you need to understand that the highest packages every year for BTech at any IIT come from the Computer Science batch. Now the question is why isn’t the situation similar for IIT Gandhinagar? Well, IIT Gandhinagar did not have a B.Tech. CSE course until 2016. As a result, the average package was calculated on the basis of the packages of students in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Material Science Engineering.
Now, the first CSE batch of IIT Gandhinagar graduates in 2020, and despite the ongoing pandemic, the average package of the institute as a whole rose from 8 LPA to 12 LPA. This in itself speaks highly of the placement scenario here which is at par with other new IITs like IIT Bhubaneswar or IIT Patna.
Moreover, IIT Gandhinagar has higher packages for almost every branch, be it Chemical, Material Science, or Civil Engineering. So judging the institute solely on the basis of average OKC gates is not justified. IIT Gandhinagar has a leader approach and packages aren’t the only concerns of the students here who are more protected towards research.
I gave my written test for MSc. Cognitive Science was offered at IIT Gandhinagar some time back.
The written test is the same for everyone and contains 4 Comprehensive-type questions and 1 question on Data Interpretation. The total marks for the test are 25 and the duration for the test is 1 hour. Solve some random comprehensive-type questions from the internet to prepare for your written exam.
Passages can come from topics such as - Pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disorders, case studies of behavioral experiments using VR/AR, the latest advancements in AI and Philosophy, etc.
The questions are designed in a manner that can be interpreted by everyone. Keep calm and you will surely qualify for the written test for this program at IIT Gandhinagar.
IIT Gandhinagar is a better choice for Electrical Engineering than choosing BITS Pilani for Electrical and Electronics.
