Is it worth joining IIT Jodhpur for MTech EE ? How are the placements?

SR
Sayantan Ray Posted On : July 27th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (IITJ) (Graduated 2021)

Whether joining IIT Jodhpur is worth it or not depends on individual expectations and prospects. Like any other Institute, it does not guarantee placements in any company. I can only offer you an insight, the test depends on your perception of the same.

  • The faculty of the Electrical Department of IIT Jodhpur is highly learned and experienced in their respective fields
  • The electrical department has well-equipped laboratories and modern equipment and systems required for research work.
  • The placement scenario is decent and the highest CTC ranges from 12-15 LPA. A few recruiters who visited in the past to recruit students were INTEL, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, KEC International Ltd., and Vehicles Ltd. Most of the packages offered by these companies were below 10 LPA.
  • IIT Jodhpur has recently shifted to a new campus so its infrastructure and campus facilities have improved.

Ultimately, it’s you who can drive whether joining IIT Jodhpur is worth it or not.

Which is better: IIT Jodhpur or NIT Warangal?

KS
Kalyan Shastri Posted On : August 2nd, 2023

In terms of a greater reputation and recognition across the nation, NIT Warangal is a winner. However, there are certain points about IIT jodhpur that you should consider-

  1. IIT Jodhpur has had its own permanent campus for a few years now. It has newly built infrastructure, A/C rooms, sports facilities, and other amenities.
  2. Since the labs are newly built, they are among the best and second best in the country with the latest technology and new instruments.
  3. There is a well established student society and a strong extracurricular base.
  4. The alumni are studying in Ivy League colleges like Harvard, Purdue, etc. and many are working in highly reputed MNCs like McKinsey, Google, Amazon etc.
  5. Campus placements are quite promising with offers from top companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, Morgan Stanley, Arcesium, Works Applications etc. Electrical and Mechanical students receive high packages from ISRO and PSUs like BPCL etc.
  6. IIT Jodhpur students ace exams like GATE, UPSC, CAT, GRE, etc. The students also bring honor to the institution in Gsoc, ACM-ICPC etc.
  7. The newly designed curriculum is well-integrated with yearly industrial practice, which you get to opt into from the first year.
  8. The faculty is well-learned and the professors are themselves alumni of prestigious national and international universities. They have publications in reputed conferences and encourage the students to indulge in research and get published in the second or third year.

Thus, IIT Jodhpur is as good an institution as NIT Warangal and even surpasses the latter in certain respects. I would thus suggest you to go for IIT Jodhpur.

Here are some pros of joining IIT Jodhpur-

  1. It offers higher packages and more exposure than MNIT.
  2. It carries the ‘IIT’ tag which will help you for your higher studies/career.
  3. An IIT offers you much more freedom to explore your interests and passions. You may end up in a non-engineering field post graduation and do wonders at it.
  4. You’ll thoroughly enjoy your four years at IIT Jodhpur with all the freedom and exposure given to you.
  5. The IIT Jodhpur campus is spread across 852 acres. You’ll get a single AC hostel room.
  6. Like every other college, you’ll get to choose from numerous societies and clubs like photography, quiz club, astronomy, programming, etc.

For placements, campus life, and exposure, IIT Jodhpur is a better choice than MNIT Jaipur. But you also need to consider the branch that you are getting at each of them.

Both IIT Patna and IIT Jodhpur are well-renowned institutions.

My brother pursued his CSE at IIT Jodhpur. According to him, you will enjoy studying CSE at IIT Jodhpur.

  • IIT Jodhpur has a great coding culture, ICPC, and many GSoCers.
  • A large number of IIT Jodhpur alumni are working for Google, Microsoft, and other big organizations.
  • IIT Jodhpur alumni are even working for Google in California. Such a strong alumni base will provide you with a lot of support and information.
  • The senior-junior interaction at IIT Jodhpur is also great. The seniors are very helpful and supportive.
  • There are regular coding competitions and the coding culture is great. The permanent campus is beautiful and is 852 acres in area.
  • Every student is provided with single accommodation rooms.
  • IIT Jodhpur holds a tech fest each year in which there are coding competitions on web development, obfuscation, etc.

What is lacking in the newer IITs (Patna, Indore, Jodhpur, etc.) that cause them to become less preferred by students?

NT
Nivedita Trivedi Posted On : June 17th, 2023

I refuse to believe that the new IITs are less preferred by students considering their exponential growth and achievements. I don’t think that the new IITs are lacking in any way be it the campus or the placements. Most new IITs are now operating from their own modern campus with top-notch infrastructure. The average packages of the new IITs again prove that they are nowhere inferior.

The reason why some are preferred over others is simply because of location. Initially, Andhra Pradesh had the maximum number of selections in JEE so the IIT Hyderabad's opening and closing rank was better than other new IITs. Also, Hyderabad enjoys a better location than Indore. Personally, I believe if you are able to make it into the new IITs then getting old IITs isn’t difficult either. This proved that the new IITs are doing well and aren’t lacking in any aspect.

Which IIT is good for electrical engineering (if I am thinking of a branch change to CS afterward), IIT Mandi or IIT Jodhpur?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : May 27th, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

In case you are considering a branch change, the better option between IIT Mandi and IIT Jodhpur is the latter. Here are 2 solid reasons that support my stance.

  • The batch size of IIT Jodhpur is small with around 60 students only. As per the branch change policy, 5% of the batch can change their branch and the total strength can be increased to 5% only. This policy works in favor of CSE students who are more in number. This is because the higher the number of students per branch, the higher will be the chances of the branch transfer.
  • Secondly, if you are unable to get a branch change, IIT Jodhpur has an excellent alternative plan. It has a unique program called IIP under which students get 3 years of internship. On the basis of your performance, you might get placed as you hold a strong resume. This program is unique and no other institute offers it. This ensures a safe alternative in case of failure to change the branch.

In the end, it’s better to visit the websites of both IITs and go through their programs, as well as talk to current students or alumni to get a better sense of which one might be a better fit for you.

Which is better for mechanical engineering - IIT Mandi Patna or Jodhpur?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 30th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both IIT Mandi Patna and IIT Jodhpur are well-respected institutions for mechanical engineering. However, it ultimately depends on which one aligns better with your personal preferences and career goals.

IIT Mandi Patna has a strong focus on research in the areas of energy, materials, and manufacturing, whereas IIT Jodhpur has a wider approach to mechanical engineering and has ties with many leading companies across the globe.

Personally, I am more in favor of IIT Jodhpur. I have a few pieces of information regarding IIT Jodhpur Mechanical Engineering.

  • IIT Jodhpur provides an opportunity to go for an industrial summer internship in the first year itself. Companies that recruit students for internships are Mahindra & Mahindra, TATA Motors, TVS, L&T, and others.
  • IIT Jodhpur IIP or the Industrial Immersion Programme offers an insight into the industry and allows you to take projects of Industrial interest as your B. Tech. Project.
  • IIT Jodhpur faculty is very much research-oriented, especially in the fields of thermal, robotics, and materials and manufacturing. This gives the students an opportunity to pursue a master's or PhD after graduation under their mentorship.

Ultimately, I can only guide you and it’s you who has to make the decision. It's best to do your own research and visit the campuses to get a feel for the culture and atmosphere of each institution. This can help you make a more informed decision about which is the best fit for you.

Where is branch upgradation from EE to CS easier, IIT Mandi or IIT Jodhpur?

PT
Pradnya Tripathi Posted On : May 24th, 2023
Lives in Jodhpur

Branch change from EE to CSE is easiest at IIT Jodhpur. Here, students who have scored a 9+ CGPA can change their branch as there are no additional criteria. If you are talking about an easier branch change from EE to CSE, it would definitely be IIT Jodhpur, as here there is a rule that if you score a CGPA of 9+ then you can change your branch to any branch of your choice.

When my friend was a student at IIT Mandi a few years ago, she told me that 10 students from the EE branch changed their branch to CSE and a total of about 18 students from other branches changed their branch to CSE, and about 10 students from different branches to EE. Surprisingly enough, the last student to change his branch to CSE had a CGPA of 8.67.

Thus, branch upgradation is easier at IIT Jodhpur than at IIT Mandi.

Which is better, CSE from MNIT Jaipur or mechanical from IIT Jodhpur?

SS
Saptarshi Sarkar Posted On : June 11th, 2021
Pursuing his B.Tech in Andhra University (2019)

It depends on what it is that you want as both are different subjects. It depends on your preference. According to my cousin who studied CSE at MNIT, if you want a challenging job and you are aiming for PSUs, then mechanical engineering may be good. But the placements of mechanical even in top colleges like IITs will be lower than their CSE counterparts.

  • If you like corporate sector private jobs in the IT or software sector, then CSE at MNIT Jaipur is a very good option.
  • Campus placements will be much easier with packages far higher than mechanical.
  • This does not mean that CSE is an easy subject. It can be difficult especially if you do not have a coding background in your class 11th and 12th.
  • For that, you need to put extra effort during your graduation.

Mechanical engineering is going to be tougher even at IITs to secure a job. However, with some struggle, hard work, and years of experience, you may land a PSU job. However, CSE is not easy but getting an initial start to your career is easier in this branch with a good starting salary.

Pick the one which suits you better according to your career choice and the career progression you want after some years.
