Lives in New Delhi

Both IIT Mandi Patna and IIT Jodhpur are well-respected institutions for mechanical engineering. However, it ultimately depends on which one aligns better with your personal preferences and career goals.

IIT Mandi Patna has a strong focus on research in the areas of energy, materials, and manufacturing, whereas IIT Jodhpur has a wider approach to mechanical engineering and has ties with many leading companies across the globe.

Personally, I am more in favor of IIT Jodhpur. I have a few pieces of information regarding IIT Jodhpur Mechanical Engineering.

  • IIT Jodhpur provides an opportunity to go for an industrial summer internship in the first year itself. Companies that recruit students for internships are Mahindra & Mahindra, TATA Motors, TVS, L&T, and others.
  • IIT Jodhpur IIP or the Industrial Immersion Programme offers an insight into the industry and allows you to take projects of Industrial interest as your B. Tech. Project.
  • IIT Jodhpur faculty is very much research-oriented, especially in the fields of thermal, robotics, and materials and manufacturing. This gives the students an opportunity to pursue a master's or PhD after graduation under their mentorship.

Ultimately, I can only guide you and it’s you who has to make the decision. It's best to do your own research and visit the campuses to get a feel for the culture and atmosphere of each institution. This can help you make a more informed decision about which is the best fit for you.

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur (2020)

IIT Jodhpur Mechanical is the best option among these. You can do industrial internships right from the first year. Students usually do their internships in companies like Mahindra & Mahindra, L&T, TVS, etc. You can choose to do your internships in other companies through the industrial immersion program. These internships give students insight into the working of the industry. So, they can choose to do a project of industrial interest as their B.Tech project.

IIT Jodhpur Mechanical faculty is brilliant. Most of the faculty members are actively engaged in research work, especially in Robotics, Materials, Manufacturing, and Thermal. If you are interested in some research project, they will be able to guide you.

According to IIT Jodhpur Mechanical placement for the last few years, the average CTC offered to the students of this branch is INR 14.33 LPA. Mahindra, ISRO, DRDO, and many other core companies recruit students through campus placements.

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (2018)

It is really difficult to compare three different colleges and their respective mechanical engineering branches without knowing them at a personal level. My brother was a student of IIT Jodhpur and has known its mechanical engineering branch fairly closely.

So, I can give you some facts about the branch based on his experience.

Industrial Exposure

  • Companies such as Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, L&T, TVS, etc. hire students from the campus under the industrial immersion program of IIT Jodhpur even from the first year itself.
  • Getting involved in your interest areas and live projects will give you a comprehensive insight into the industry and will enrich your learning experience while doing your B.Tech.

Research Work -

  • There are many faculty in the institute who have done remarkable work in the fields of Thermal Engineering, Robotics, Material synthesis, and manufacturing, etc.
  • So, if you are considering doing a Master’s or Ph.D. after completing your graduation, then you will have an excellent opportunity for the same.

Now in terms of placement, ranking, etc. you could look into the official websites of the institute and get a fair idea about the same.
