How are Electrical and Electronics placements at BITS Pilani?

NS
Navneet Singh Posted On : June 28th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Around 11 students were placed in electronics this year and the package range was INR 14 - 30 LPA.

BITS Pilani has placements in 2 semesters and you can choose which one to sit for placements. Usually, students with CGPA > 8 prefer the first semester while those with CGPA > 6 and CGPA < 8 want the first semester but fail to get it.

The first semester placements for ECE are great and top companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, SanDisk, Nvidia, Cisco, etc come for placements out of which 15-20 are core companies. So the first semester has great job profiles and packages.

Big companies like Intel, Nvidia, etc. that prefer high-scoring students don’t come for the second semester as mostly average students sit for placements. Several times companies like Broadcom and Qualcomm came for the second semester. Sometimes even core companies like Juniper Networks, Synopsys, Atrenta, LSI, and Cisco come for recruitment.

Overall, it can be concluded that the job opportunities and packages offered are better in the first semester than the second, especially for the core. To get placed in a reputed EEE core company go for the PS-II, 6 months of training program.

I left IIT Patna electrical and electronics for IIT Roorkee civil. Did I make the right decision?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : June 21st, 2023

Yes, you certainly made the right decision by choosing IIT Roorkee over IIT Patna. The biggest reason for saying this is that IIT Roorkee is an older IIT, thus having better opportunities, alumni, and experienced faculty. The career opportunities and exposure rendered by an old IIT cannot be compared to that of a new IIT. Irrespective of the branch you choose, old IITs will help you develop as a person.

Additionally, the IIT Roorkee Civil Engineering branch is considered one of the best Civil branches in India.

Many students prefer average branches like Mechanical and Civil at old IITs to top branches like CSE and EEE at new IITs. So go for IIT Roorkee without any second thoughts.

How is Electrical and Electronics branch at DTU? What is the average placement?

TS
Tanya Sharma Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Studied at Delhi Technological university

The perfect description of the Electrical and Electronics branch at DTU is the Jack of all grades and Master of none. The branch covers everything including EC, EE, CS, IT, and SE yet you end up with nothing in your hands. The worst part is that teachers don’t give enough marks in this branch. Even hard workers get average grades.

The same is the case with recruiters. They consider EEE students the jack of all trades but master of none. All the companies prefer EE and EC, CS and IT but EEE students are rarely given preference.

Although there is harmony among the batchmates of this branch, sometimes you might face challenges so keep all these things in mind before going for it.

Which is better for a person getting JEE rank greater than 3500: Get brand name of IIT without top-notch branch or join NITs/DCE/NSIT with CS/EE?

AB

If your rank is more than 1000, you’ll probably not get CS/ EE in any good IIT. But if you still wish for an IIT tag, I would recommend you go for a more relaxed branch. This means, picking the branch with the lowest closing rank. I am saying this because apart from the CS/EE/Mathematics group, all the branches come under the category of “others”. Unfortunately, all these “other” branches are equally placed.

  • The coursework, curriculum, and labs are very bland, boring, and outdated. With these branches, a good CGPA and extracurriculars will be the saving grace for your resume.
  • A lower branch will allow you to secure good grades more easily and you will get time to pursue extracurriculars.
  • By doing courses on Coursera and Udacity and making open-source contributions, you can become skilled and learn in coding/programming. Through various online platforms, you can get in touch with software companies in the valley.

If you are passionate about a field, be it Mechanical or Chemical, definitely go for it. With a passion for your field, you will secure a good core job or can even plan your Phd. in that domain. I would also recommend you check the integrated MSc. courses in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics. They might be a better and more beneficial choice.

As far as NSIT/DCE/NITs are concerned, I would recommend you talk to some seniors from the CSE/EE branch to get a better idea. Otherwise, go for a lower branch in the IITs if you do not get a “top notch” branch at them.

What should be the preference order for the following: NIT Surathkal EEE, NIT Warangal EEE, NIT Trichy EEE, MANIT Bhopal (hometown) EE, MNNIT Allahabad EE, NIT Calicut EE, and MNIT Jaipur EE?

AA

For EE/EEE, out of NIT Surathkal, NITW, NIT Trichy, MANIT Bhopal, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Calicut, and MNIT Jaipur, I would suggest three institutes in the following order of preference-

  1. NIT Surathkal
  2. NIT Trichy
  3. NIT Warangal

My best friend is studying EEE at NITK and he is quite happy with the department. The teachers in the department are a bit strict. But if you bring up a good project idea and stay attentive in their class, you’ll be in a good position. Also, scoring good grades can be a bit tough, but with hardwork and good preparation, you will surely ace your exams.

In terms of EEE placements, NITK, NIT Trichy, and NITW are all equally good options.

As a NITK student, you will get certain benefits. These are-

  1. NITK is the only institute in India to have a private beach.
  2. Among the three institutes that I have listed, NITK is the most suitable for people from other parts of India. Even though there is a 50% state quota, you will find plenty of North Indians and people from other parts of India. You will rarely face a language barrier because most people on campus understand English.
  3. You can showcase your technical skills at the IEEE technical club of NITK.
  4. Technites of ‘Engineer’, the techfest of NITK, does some brilliant work with electronics.

Thus, out of NIT Calicut, NITK, NITW, and all the other options listed by you, I would suggest you to choose NITK Surathkal for your EEE.

Which is better: IIT Gandhinagar, other new IIT electrical, or BITS Pilani electrical and electronics?

AS
Ankit Sigha Posted On : February 19th, 2021
IIT Delhi (2019)

You should first consider the branch and then look at the college that you want to go to. Go through the brochures, as well as whatever information is available on the website, that will provide details about the course structure. This will help you gain a brief idea about what you can expect in the next four years of your academic life, and if it suits you.

Half your battle is conquered if you have an interest in what you are studying. College rankings, average packages, and statistics will not help you much other than provide a brief overview regarding the college.

Comparison:

  • New IITs have a lot of catching up to do initially. You will see that a lot of them will have a temporary campus, and some might not even have a hostel. A few students are also of the opinion that the labs are not that well developed and equipped. But, if you are going after the IIT Brand name, you should go ahead.
  • BITS Pilani though is well established. There is academic flexibility, choices between electives and clubs as well. All this will ensure that you get an all-around education. Many would say that BITS Pilani is at the same level as any other IIT and better than any new IIT for sure. And if you are planning for electrical and electronics as your major, the institute is ideal. It boasts of the best faculty for electronics in Asia. A disadvantage is that BITS hikes its fee every year. It does not have any less of a brand value than IIT. But with the current fee of INR 4.23 lakhs for the first year and a 15% hike in tuition, it could get expensive.

Do your research and see which college suits you better, fees and course-wise. Then make a decision.

How is the mechanical engineering department in IIEST, Shibpur as compared to departments like EE and ETC (placement & research wise)?

PN
Pratyansh Nayak Posted On : October 17th, 2023
IIEST, Shibpur

I am a first year B.Tech mechanical student at IIEST Shibpur. I will try providing some information about my department.

It is one of the best departments at IIEST. The faculty members are highly qualified, and their teaching methods are really good. They are actively engaged in research, and will happily encourage your research ideas on being approached.

The department performs decently well during placement season. Last year, 61 out of 75 B.Tech mechanical students were successfully placed. Companies like Tata Steel, CESC and Hyundai visit the department, and offer good packages to students.

IIEST has been known for its excellent teaching of core branches. Its EE and mechanical branches have one of the oldest and best labs in India. You can rest assured that the mechanical branch of this college is a pretty good one.

Which is better IIT Guwahati CSE or IIT Delhi EE or IIT KGP CSE 5yrs?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : May 5th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

In my opinion, an IIT KGP CSE dual degree is a better option than IIT Guwahati CSE. Here’s why

  • You get an additional degree in just one or two years
  • You don’t have to sit for another entrance exam like GATE
  • Companies that open profiles for BTech also open the same profiles for Dual Degree students.

IIT Guwahati is also a good option for CSE. However, one should opt for IIT Delhi EE only if

You are confident that one will be able to change branch within a year. This is because you will end up studying CS courses with external coaching.

To secure a job, the best options are CSE or MBA. For MBA, your branch does not really matter, only your institute does.
