IISc Partners with SSIR to Launch Quantum Technology Lab; Check Details Here

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has entered into a collaboration with Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) to establish an exceptional Quantum Technology Lab.

This partnership between IISc and SSIR was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Balajee Sowrirajan, CVP & MD at SSIR, and Govindan Rangarajan, Director of IISc.

Balajee Sowrirajan, the Chief Vice President and Managing Director of SSIR, conveyed that their collaboration with IISc to create the Quantum Technology Lab aims to drive advancements in quantum technologies.

This endeavor is set to achieve this by equipping a highly skilled workforce, promoting collaborative innovation, enhancing national competitiveness, and catalyzing transformations in industries with substantial societal implications.

Sowrirajan expressed that the expansion of quantum technology will further India's commitment to excelling in quantum innovation and securing a prominent position in the global technology landscape.

Professor Govindan Rangarajan of IISc expressed his perspective on this collaboration, stating that IISc has positioned itself as a prominent center for quantum technology research. The introduction of the Quantum Technology Lab at IISc underscores our dedication to pioneering and forward-looking research domains.

Partnering with SSIR will strengthen the Institute's state-of-the-art facilities and knowledge, offering our students and researchers a distinctive platform to delve into the boundless potential of quantum technologies, Rangarajan said.

IISc, SSIR Collaboration Details

This initiative reflects SSIR's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, focusing on offering research and training opportunities to numerous IISc faculty members and a multitude of students engaged in higher education.

These opportunities are extended to individuals in various educational institutions, with a specific emphasis on the fields of physics, engineering, computer science, and mathematics.

Headed by Mayank Shrivastava, Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (DESE), the lab aspires to become a cutting-edge facility dedicated to the advancement of quantum technologies.

The laboratory will serve as a hub for technological innovation, workforce training, and collaboration with both national and international quantum research organizations.

With a dedicated focus on nurturing homegrown quantum technologies, it will play a pivotal role in bolstering local development efforts and elevating India's research contributions to global prominence.

This facility will offer students pursuing advanced education, particularly in the domains of physics, engineering, computer science, and mathematics, unparalleled opportunities for hands-on training, research exposure, and the acquisition of skills in quantum technologies. This will not only enhance their employability but also broaden their career prospects.

Furthermore, the researchers and scientists engaged in quantum research will benefit from the state-of-the-art infrastructure, a collaborative atmosphere, and access to cutting-edge resources, empowering them to push the boundaries of knowledge and make substantial contributions to the field.

In addition, the lab will provide support and resources to faculty members from various colleges and institutions who might not have access to capital-intensive research facilities.
