Dr. Pallabi Goswami (PT) Principal: PEWS College of Physiotherapy And Medical Science

Being the Principal, how do you strategize about the key programs and plans for the marketing and administration of your school?

My philosophy of leadership is to take everyone alongside and reach a particular goal. A leader is someone who can lead a group and we can also evolve ourselves to reach a height in a profession both professionally and personally. My leadership goal is to always evolve in my own career to always make myself better so that I can give a good impression to my students and my faculty who can also take the opportunities or take the points towards me by seeing me and they can reach a height in their own career and profession. So, this is my philosophy of leadership. I usually take the leadership as a principal in the College of Physiotherapy in Medical Sciences by taking all my faculty members alongside. It’s not always that I should keep myself for what I prefer. It is that I always keep my staff forward so that my department gets improvised with lots of knowledge and upcoming opportunities.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institute?

In my belief to maintain a healthy environment in the institute is to give opportunities to every person under me and with me. It is very important to have a good relationship with everyone so that everyone should feel free to come and talk to me regarding any matter whether it is professional or personal. I tend to keep a very good relationship with my colleagues and also with my students so that they feel free to come and talk to me. They usually come and talk to me regarding their most personal issues just because they have the faith that I can correct it. That is my ideology for a healthy environment and it is very important in any institute or any workplace.

When you first came to PEWS Group of Institutions, what was your vision? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

I have been attached to the PEWS group of institutions for such a long time. I joined PEWS in 2010 as a faculty, then I was promoted as an Assistant and Associate Professor and now I am in a professor cum principal position since 2019. PEWS evolved a lot since so many years it’s a gradual process and what I must say regarding the academics is that the students are getting very good opportunities once they pass out from this institute. It is a level that we PEWS does, even today if some people call, they ask for my students as faculty just because they have the faith for our students and have a very good relationship. This is not something that I am telling you as a principal but what I feel as a physiotherapist. I know that the position of Pews students is very good so even if our students are going out for internship and they get absorbed there as a faculty that is a very big positive point for us and we give opportunity, so we have lots of ties up with Hospitals in and around Guwahati and gradually we are increasing in it. We send our students to GMCH where they get ample time and also the opportunity to learn more of the physiotherapy related techniques and also get exposure related to patients. We have OPD which I always try to improve where we try to take new machineries, new techniques which are updated to the students and we try to evolve so that students get the maximum opportunity. So, what I must say is that along with the facilities we are having very good Physiotherapy faculties and they are all Masters and from very good institutes from all over India.
